See You Soon!

Blondie has returned safe and sound from swap week, and her trainer couldn’t wait for her to come back.  He loves all the greyhounds there, but there’s something special about Blondie.

This week Blondie has been working on toy etiquette, getting her ready for her new home.  For the low, low, low price of a few pieces of kibble, Blondie will fetch any toy you throw and return it to you.  She will usually drop it at your feet, but if she doesn’t, then just say “give”.  Give her a piece kibble, collect the toy, and throw it again.  As her trainer is writing this, Blondie is asleep in her kennel, dreaming of her new home with lots of toys to play with and comfy beds for all her power naps.  Thanks for reading and Blondie will be seeing you very soon!

Nosy Girl

This week was swap week and Blondie’s swap week trainer said she is amazing.  She did great with all of her commands.  Blondie is very interested in watching everything that is going on around her, so getting her focused on you is a must.  She absolutely loves playing with toys and running around in the training room.  She’s a lot of fun!

Blondie has a loving, easy going personality and her swap week trainer had a fun week with her.  She will make a great addition to any home.  Will it be yours?

Blondie Will Brighten Your Day

Blondie has come out of her shell!  This week while she was being released from her kennel she was playing with a sock.  Her inmate trainer said that he was wondering how in the world she got a sock as they are hard to come by.  He managed to hide his laugh and removed the sock and released her for some fun.  A little later in the day… she heels to re-enter her kennel… this time with a shirt in her mouth… her inmate trainer couldn’t hide his laugh this time.  He said that it was so darn cute and her antics brightened his day.  Clearly, she likes to be near her human.  It was later discovered that she was taking clothes off the kennel/bunk behind theirs. Potential toy hoarder here.

Blondie’s inmate trainer says this girl keeps him smiling.  She makes the more difficult days better.  Blondie is working hard on her sit and stay and he expects her to have it down pat soon.

The Down Command....Conquered.

Another great week for Blondie!  She’s finally learned the down command!  Her inmate trainer says that she tried it out 4-5 times a day just to see if she can get an extra treat or two.

Her inmate trainer would like to give you a little heads up…. Blondie loves popcorn and marshmallows… but it makes her rather… uh… well… gaseous.  Be prepared to vacate the room for a bit a fresh air if you choose to give her these treats.

Blondie’s inmate trainer says that Blondie is a very sweet girl She’s loving and precious .He believes that she’s going to make a great addition to some lucky family.

Easy Going Gal

Another week of training and another week of progress. Blondie is starting the master the art of duration in her “sit”. She has shown great improvement from last week. Leash walking and stopping are the focus. At week 6 Blondie is right where she should be in her training. She has gotten way more comfortable than she has been in the past few weeks, so her best is yet to come!

Blondie’s trainer said she is the most easy going dog he’s seen. She’s a joy to be around and Blondie’s trainer is excited for her next step….forever family and home.

Toys Are So Much Fun!

Blondie has had another great week!  She now sits on commands and is working on duration every day.  She’s also discovered toys!  Her inmate trainer says that she romps around the training room tossing her toys up in the air, then brings them to her trainer and waits to be petted.  When she’s ready to go again she’ll sit down and wait for flying toys to chase.  So far her favorites are a tennis ball and rubber chicken!

Affectionate Greyhound

It has been another busy week here at the Second Chance Greyhounds program for Blondie.  We have seen a new side of her during the recent wet weather. Rain falling on her back doesn’t seem to phase her, but she hates getting her paws muddy or wet.  Even after her paws are wiped and patted dry with a towel, they still require another 15 – 20 minutes of grooming by Blondie.

As far as training goes, Blondie knows every command well, except for sit and down.  She is working hard to master them.  She is also looking forward to meeting her new family.  Prepare yourself for a very loving and affectionate greyhound!

Training For Treats

I don’t know about my training tea, but I’m doing great this week! This is Blondie and I’m here to tell you the real story of what I’ve been up to these past few weeks. First and foremost, I love my training team. They are the best. I get out for fresh air and potty breaks quite frequently during the day. My humans even clean up behind me, so I don’t have to walk through a mine field. i get treated and petted for some of the craziest things. If I make eye contact when my name is called…. Boom! A treat. Leash walking by my trainer’s side earns an ear rub. Simple commands, like getting on the bed and staying there are rewarded with marshmallows and popcorn. Pretty cool huh?

That’s all for this week. Just know that I have A LOT of love to give and I’m ready for my forever home. See you soon!

Cutie Coming Your Way In May

Blondie has completed her first full week at Second Chance Greyhounds Academy for higher learning and her trainer said she is doing a great job. She is very intelligent and also a little mischievous at times. Let’s talk about Saturday morning. Blondie’s trainer released her from her kennel to let her practice leash walking with him, but instead of her usual routine where she walks past him, turns and then comes back and heels at his side, she turned and stopped. Her focus was on the blue storage bag under his bunk where the dog supplies are (and her food bowl) stored. It took her two days to figure out where to find it, and now every day Blondie checks to see if her trainer needs it. LOL After a few seconds, she comes back to reality. Ready to learn.

Prepare yourself for a beautiful, intelligent girl, with a sweet disposition to be coming your way in May. Talk to you next week.

Bird Watcher

Blondie has been in the program for two days and she’s settling into her new routine nicely.  Her inmate trainer says that she likes meeting new people and taking walks around the dorm.  She’s curious about everything including the birds when she’s outside for her potty break.  She hasn’t tried to get any of the birds yet. She’s just fascinated by them.

She’s not having any problems eating. Her inmate trainer is hand feeding her to work on bonding. It seems to be going well as she likes to lay on her side while her inmate trainer feeds her…. To keep from spoiling her too much they’ve resumed to a normal eating routine
