Bon Voyage Raven

The last weeks of training are always bittersweet.  It’s hard getting ready to say goodbye to the dogs, but also so rewarding to know they’re about to begin a new journey to their forever home.  This week with Raven has been full of laughs as her trainers have been trying out new tricks to supplement all the commands that she has learned.

Raven continues to be a joy to be around, and her funny antics will be missed by everyone.  She has had a big personality since her arrival at Pulaski, but it has blossomed week by week.  As soon as she sees the treat bag come out she is so eager to perform all of her commands.  The only command she doesn’t have down perfectly is “Stay”, because she is just so eager to be at her trainer’s side.  With a gentle reminder and a treat though, she will stay until you release her.

Soaking up the Sun

This week Raven is polishing her basic commands while she’s learning a few new tricks. They are focusing on getting her to follow commands without any treats, which she’s not a fan of, but she’s doing it pretty consistently.

One new trick she’s working on this week is how to catch treats in the air. She is also learning how to crawl on her belly. She’ll follow a path of about four treats until she gets too excited and jumps up to run to the next one.

Her new favorite thing to do is lay out in the sun after going potty outside, soaking up the rays. When she’s really enjoying her sunbathing she’ll even roll around in the grass. She’ll stay out there as long as you’ll let her, but her trainers are careful to not let her get overheated. The black greyhounds really do soak up the sun.

So Affectionate

Raven has been doing wonderful. She is always full of energy first thing in the morning and has smiles for everyone. She has been working hard on her basic commands which she will do for food instead of treats. She is learning how to “Catch” treats and how to “Crawl.” They are still working on “Stay” and “Heel” as she tends to get excited and breaks before she’s supposed, so it’s still a work in progress.

Raven is so affectionate and wants love from everyone. I know you have lots of love to give and Raven is ready for it.

Lazy Week

Raven decided to have a lazy week. Her trainers still worked on her commands like normal but she seemed not to have much interest in it. She has gotten a lot better at “Heel” but still gets excited and can’t really “Stay” that well yet. it’s a work in progress and I’m sure she’ll figure it out soon.

Raven has been enjoying the outdoors and the warmer weather. She likes just laying in the sun, but will get up and go to the gate when she feels it is time to go inside. That is where she’ll get a drink and find her bed to lay down. Then it’s time for another greyhound nap!

Demands Attention

This week has been another good week for Raven. She is doing well with her commands and loves attention and will talk to you to get it. She’s a funny girl.

She has been running more and more with Randal. Raven also likes “jousting” with him. The trainers have been working with Raven on “Leave It,” which she hasn’t gotten the hang of yet. She is working hard at it though. Her other commands are being polished as she continues to be eager to please. Raven knows some of her basic commands by using hand signals too. She is working on a couple of extra commands, “Crawl” and “Whisper”. Check back next week to see what sweet Raven is up to.

She's Got a Lot to Say

Raven loves to have “conversations” with her trainers, and she is so wonderfully expressive when she’s trying to communicate with them. She’s full of energy in the morning, and then likes to lounge the rest of the day. Raven still loves toys and treats, and her trainers have been proactively working with her on sharing so she doesn’t get too excited.. She’s doing great overall, and everyone at Pulaski loves Raven!

Nurse Raven

Raven’s trainer suffered an injury this week and is on crutches, and Raven has been taking such good care of her. With everyone else she is her normal, rambunctious self, but with her trainer she is very patient and gentle. She hasn’t been afraid of the crutches at all. Raven’s trainer is so impressed by how quickly she seemed to understand what was going on and how empathetic she has been.

Raven’s training is going incredibly well. She listens to commands from everyone, not just her trainer. When Raven gets in the training room and sees the bag of treats she will start running through commands all by herself hoping to get a reward. She hesitates a little with “Stay” and “Heel”, but is getting better at both commands and is doing excellent with all the others.

Remarkable Raven

Raven’s trainers are having so much fun with her! She has a huge personality and likes to make everything into a game. She is very curious, and likes to explore everything and go everywhere she can. She still loves her lamb toy, and loves to squeak it all day long. She likes to flip her bowls over at meal time; she never spills her water, but enjoys finding all the pieces of food she’s dropped on the floor.

Raven is an incredibly loving dog that loves to play with all of the trainer’s and dogs. She gets excited for training every day.

Good At Sharing

Raven’s trainer has had so much fun with her this week. Her personality is really shining through, and it’s a blast to watch.

Raven is picking up all of her commands very easily, because she loves getting a treat every time she does what she’s asked to do. She learned “Sit”, “Down”, and “Bed” her first week, and this week they are working on “Heel”, “Here”, and “Stay”.

Her favorite toy is a stuffed lamb that squeaks, and she will play with it for hours if she is able. As much as she loves toys, Raven has not shown any aggression or signs of resource guarding with them. She’s definitely playful, but she also loves to calm down and take long afternoon naps.

Welcome Raven!

Raven is already proving to be an energetic pup with a huge personality. She smiles all the time, and will bump you with her head to remind you to give her more love and attention.

Raven is already in love with every toy at Pulaski. The louder the squeak the better!

She likes to wake up early for cuddles and attention, but then likes to go back to sleep after going outside and playing for a little while.

Her trainer is focusing on bonding with her before introducing any commands, but Raven is super treat-motivated so training should be a breeze once they start. Raven already seems to understand the command “Bed” just from her trainer using it without any training.

Raven’s trainer is looking forward to these 10 weeks with this bundle of fun.
