Brave Little Boy

Pi has started playing openly with his toys and isn’t at all nervous when his trainer tosses a ball or a toy his way.  He still loves to be up and about in the mornings before all of the other dogs, and will go out and claim a bed before any of the others has a chance.

With this recent heat he’s spent a lot of time laying in his trainer’s room in front of the fan.  Whenever she tries to angle it so she can get some air as well, he looks at her like “Hey, that’s for me!”

He is coming along great with all of his commands, and is ready to go to his forever family and give them some kisses!

An Awesome Week!

Pi’s trainers say he is doing AWESOME! He is doing great around the other inmates and all of the dogs, while he is still a little shy around staff members he doesn’t know as well. He is great while being bathed, having his ears cleaned and his teeth brushed, but he doesn’t enjoy having his nails trimmed as much.

Outside he loves to play with the trainers and other dogs, but inside he’s a total couch potato. His trainer has gotten him to play a few times with a toy, but they aren’t his favorite thing.

Pi has mastered most of his basic commands, and has learned a few extra tricks including “Kisses” and “Paws Up”.

Little Charmer

Pi and his trainers have had a great week. He has really made a lot of progress in a very short amount of time. Not only is he opening up to the other dogs, but he’s becoming more comfortable with the other trainers. He will now sit with them and let them give him treats even if his own trainers aren’t right there.

He has become very treat motivated and loves to train outside, so they are using that to work on his remaining commands. This week it was “wait”, “stay”, and “here” on the agenda.

Pi's Play Buddy

Pi has definitely found his voice, and will let his trainers know when he wants something or how he’s feeling. He still loves going outside and doing as much exploring as he can. He has made friends with another dog, Raider, and they will play together a lot.

He’s going up stairs now without jumping, which is much safer for him, and he and his trainers are working at becoming more consistent with the “heel” command. More to update you on next week.

Cookie Monster

Pi has started becoming more curious around the play room, and is more comfortable around the other dogs. Previously if he was laying on the bean bag chair and another dog came by he would get up to let them have it, but now he will stay in his place and share the bean bag with them if they want to lay down.

He loves the outdoors. Pi doesn’t run around as much as the other dogs, he prefers to walk around and sniff everything. He also loves having “conversations” with his trainers. When they sit down and talk to him he will “speak” back at them, which makes them laugh every time.

His trainers are trying out many different types of treats to see which one he likes best and responds to best during training, and so far the doggie cookies are his top preference.

Little Man's Growing Up

Pi is becoming more curious and open with his surroundings at Pulaski. He is spending more time around the older dogs and becoming more comfortable with them. He enjoys playing with toys, but prefers to do it in private, when the other dogs are focused on something else.

Pi is such a joy to his trainers, and they just love working with him. He knows many of his commands well, and is currently working on “here”, “sit”, and “stay'“. Pi’s trainers describe him as an absolute joy, and I’m sure his future family will feel the same!

Early Bird

Pi’s trainer says that mornings are this pup’s favorite time of day.  He loves to get out and run around first thing in the morning, showing off in front of all the other dogs in the yard.  Every day she can see him coming more and more out of his shell.

Pi is getting more confident on the stairs, and just needs to be reminded to go “easy” on the way down and he does a great job. He knows “sit”, “down”, and “stay” well, and is working on improving on the hand signals for each of those commands. His trainer is so grateful to be working with such a great, happy dog!

Coming Out of His Shell

Pi has opened up even more during his second week with his trainer.  She describes him as a private guy, who prefers the other dogs take their time to come up and introduce themselves.  As he’s getting to know everyone better, he’s becoming much more active, and he loves to play outside with his toys.

He knows his “bed” and “kennel” commands, as well as “wait”, “release”, and “let’s go”. Right now they are working on the stairs as well as “sit”. Pi has brought so much joy to his trainer, and she is so thankful for the opportunity to work with him

A Great First Week

Pi has had a great first week at Pulaski!  His trainer says he was a little shy in the new environment at first, but has since opened up and had a lot of great successes.

Pi is catching on to many of his commands faster than his trainer had expected were possible.  They are working on the “kennel” and “bed” commands, as well as stopping and waiting at doorways.  He already knows “hurry”, “let’s go”, and “release” commands well.  There are going to be a lot more of Pi’s successes to share in the coming weeks for sure!
