Smart and Handsome

Midnight's first week in the suburbs went super!! He enjoys the company of the other hounds we have in his foster home and enjoys the company of the humans even more.  He's quite the snuggler!!

When brushing his teeth and cleaning his ears, he is super patient. Midnight also LOVES toys - he loves them all, but in our home, there is a flamingo toy that is his favorite. He is improving on doing his commands without treats too.

I might be biased, but this handsome guy would make an amazing addition to any home.  He is the quintessential family dog - a strong, smart, and friendly companion.

Next Step.....Forever Home

Hey there friends!  It's Midnight.  The beautiful boy everyone has been talking about.   I am a very sweet boy.  Confident, friendly, outgoing, and if I like you (I've never met anyone I didn't like), I will lay my head on your lap for you to pet me.  As long as you pet me, I'll stand there and soak it all in.

I have a favorite toy.  It's a green alligator, and I hope my forever home has 100 of these toys.  LOL.  Seriously, I do love this alligator better than any other toy in the world.  I hope my new owner reads this and stocks up.

My trainer here at the prison said I was a challenge, but a good one.  He said I could be a little stubborn doing some of my commands.  Sit was one of them.  It's hard for us greyhounds to sit, and why do we need to sit, when lying down is soooo much more comfortable.

I passed my final exam and am ready for the next step....my forever home.  Is it yours?

Can't Resist Me

It's Midnight checking back with you during swap week.  I think I had a pretty good week.  I was a a little unsure about this trainer swapping thing, but I did better as the week went on.  He had me doing the same commands as my primary trainer had me do.  Sometimes I just stood there waiting for him to dish out the treats.  I think I deserve something after showing what I can do.  Don't you agree?

I can't wait to find out what my forever home is like.  I know there's a patient loving family out there looking for me.  I hope they have lots of toys, treats, plushy beds and lots of love waiting for me.  I'm tall, dark and handsome.  How can you resist me.  Are you that lucky family?

Green Gators, Treats, & Naps

Hello.  My name is Midnight and I’m a retired racing Greyhound.  I’m currently learning a few basic commands and what being a dog is all about.  I’ll admit, this retirement thing is pretty nice.  Long naps, treats in exchange for a few commands and attention!  I’ve been a little shy in this new place but it’s so different!  It’s much louder here and there are strange objects like carts moving around.  I’m relaxing more every day, but I think I’m going to enjoy this forever home thing my inmate trainer keeps talking about.

I have this stuffed green alligator toy that I adore.  He hangs out with me and handles a good bout of play like a pro!  There are other toys here, but none compare to the green gator.

I hope you have a nice day and check back in with me next week!

Impressive Boy

Midnight's inmate trainer is more impressed with Midnight this week than ever before. He continues to improve more and more every week. They've spent some extra time early in the morning in the training room which has paid off.

His sits are on point and on command now - every time!  So are his downs, stays, and all the other basic commands.  On Friday, he received "ks" down the list on all his commands.  "K's" are "knows well" and he does know his commands very well.  Extra commands include "shake", "leave it" and "catch".  The "catch" command is where he catches treats in the air. He loves that one!

He loves to lay his head in your lap and get petted.  Yes, he is spoiled!  His inmate trainer has noted he his now playing with toys. He knew it would eventually happen!  He also enjoys running with the other Greyhounds on the big field.

His new family will love this hound and, yes, he takes the "hound" part very seriously.

Great Leash Skills

Midnight knows all his basic commands and also knows some extras:  "shake", "leave it" and "catch".  He was a little  slow following thru with them this week.  He has a mind of his own at times, and would stand there and look at me as if to say, "why do you keep asking me to do these things?  I know how to do all of them with ease.

He has no aggression with food or playing.  Midnight is a dream on a leash, and does great with "hurry", "wait", "heel", "let's go", and on his daily walks.

Stay tuned for more updates next week!

No Treats?

Midnight is very food motivated, so was not too thrilled when he found out he had to do commands without treats. What?  No treats!  He showed his stubborn side, so it took him longer to follow thru with some of his commands.  No worries. There is plenty of time to perfect them and the two extras: "shake" and "leave it".

Midnight is a well-behaved boy with a relaxed personality that takes retirement to the max.  He only gets excited over his food and things that squeak.

Out in the big yard, Midnight is a good boy running and playing with the other Greyhounds. His trainer hopes he goes to a loving family, because he deserves it!

Midnight Excels

This week Midnight and his inmate trainer have been working to perfect the basic commands he has learned during the past weeks.  Sit is the one command he doesn't particularly care for but he will do it for a treat. Who wouldn't?

He is excellent on leash and does quite well with his leash commands - heel, wait, let's go, and hurry.  This week they started working on the stay command and perfecting the bed command.  They have also introduced "jump".

Midnight is a dominant male so will definitely need a strong leader in his human, one who will be alpha.  He prefers to have set boundaries and to know those boundaries.

He is a very smart Greyhound who deserves a loving home where he can thrive and enjoy his retirement.

A Great Buddy

Midnight is doing great and has adjusted really well to the prison environment.  He enjoys attention and is a loving guy, especially with those he’s bonded with.  He isn’t a big fan of other dogs around his kennel or while he’s eating but they are working on that with him.

His training is coming along nicely.  He’s very food motivated so that always helps.  As with most Greyhounds he is having a more difficult time with “sit”.  Those gluteus maximus muscles make sitting more difficult!  He enjoys running in the big yard with the other dogs, but prefers to have his own space.

Midnight’s inmate trainer says that he believes that Midnight Is going to make a great buddy for some lucky family.

Getting To Know You

Midnight has been making great progress and is starting to come out of his shell.  He can be a little picky when some of the other dogs are around his kennel.  He will speak to them requesting that they move to a new location.  His inmate trainer has been working to help Midnight understand that his space is secure and that it’s okay for others to be nearby.  He is catching on and complaining less.

Midnight is the kind of guy who needs to get to know you.  His inmate trainer has had other people feeding Midnight kibble from their hands to encourage openness with strangers.  Midnight is a very sweet boy who doesn’t mind hugs and love from his trainer.  His trainer believes that some of his shyness may disappear as he relaxes and settles in to the new surroundings.

Midnight’s inmate trainer says that Midnight gets excited at meal times so they’re working on “sit/stay” to improve mealtime manners.  His trainer says that Midnight is a wonderful dog that is going to bring a lot of happiness into some lucky home.

Settling In And Starting Over

Midnight has been at the prison for a few days now.  He’s learning: wait, here, kennel, heel, let’s go, hurry and most important his new name.  He’s doing great walking on the leash.  He’s still a little unsure of this new place but is picking up on things and slowly adjusting to this new environment.

Midnight has not shown any signs of aggression just shyness.  His inmate trainer knows that in just a few days Midnight will be more settled and his personality will start to emerge.
