Time To Do A Little Swap

Swap week time means to Dottie spends the week with an alternate inmate trainer!  This week will help her adjust to taking commands from new people and spending time away from her primary training team.  Dottie’s alternate inmate trainer says that Dottie is a great dog, but can be a little strong willed from time to time.  She has a wonderful personality and will perform her commands with or without treats!  He says that she is quiet and relaxed girl who is just a pleasure to be around.

Dottie’s alternate inmate trainer says that Dottie is a very smart and loving girl.  He wishes that he had more time with her and believes that her forever family is going to be very happy with this sweet girl!

You Got Treats?

Dottie loves to eat and comes out of her kennel full of joy every morning!  She will turn around and sit all while her backside shakes with excitement.  Her inmate trainer says it doesn’t take long for her to calm down so she can eat.

She knows all of her commands and performs them really well!  When she pulls on the leash out of excitement her inmate trainer gives her a correction and she straights up – she knows a treat is coming for good behavior.

Dottie’s trainer says that he is truly going to miss this wonderful girl!  He says that she has been a joy to train and has made his days brighter!

Playing With Toys!

Dottie and her inmate trainer work in a room they call the training room.  Dottie absolutely loves this room and will pull in that direction every time she comes out of her kennel.  She knows this room means fun and treats!

Dottie has shown interest in toys this week!  Her inmate trainer tosses the toy and she will run after it and play with it.  Her inmate trainer with say “good girl” and she will drop it and come running straight back to him for a reward.  Her inmate trainer warns that Dottie has this beg feature she does with her eyes that will make you give in to anything she wants.

Dottie is a smart girl who knows all of her basic commands and a few extras.  Her inmate trainer says that Dottie picks up on training fast and seems to enjoy learning new things.  She can be a little stubborn at times and likes to be top dog with the females.  In other words, she knows she’s beautiful and is not the least bit humble about it.  Her inmate trainer says that he’s going to truly miss her and that training her has been a wonderful experience.  He believes that her new forever family is going to be very happy with this amazing girl!

Ear Rubs, Treats, and Beauty

Greetings my fabulous fans!  I’m sure you’ve all been reading my blogs and keeping track of me. I mean why wouldn’t you?  Let’s just set aside my beauty for a minute and discuss my training.  I know, totally hard to do but completely necessary for focus.

I’m working with an inmate trainer who is teaching me basic commands.  I have it all figured out, but go along with everything in trade for food.  He’s been attempting to have me do commands without treat rewards.  I’ll do a lot of them, but not all.  I’m holding out for the yummy stuff – it’s only fair!  One awesome thing about this place is the amount of attention I get.  Finally, people who appreciate me!  The ear rubs are absolutely amazing.  I get to run with my friends, well I’m sure they just basically watch my graceful run and try to refrain from feeling envious.

Meal times are among my favorite times of the day.  In fact, I’m so filled with joy that I do little circles in my kennel.  My inmate trainer has me come out of the kennel and sit calmly while he counts to 10 then releases me to my food.  Yes, you heard that correctly all the way to 10!  I often feel that I may starve before he ever gets to 10.

I hear that I’ll be going to a forever family soon.  Forever, I like the sound of that.  I hope these new humans know about ear rubs and food and crowns… I’m certain I’d look smashing in a crown.

Look Into My Eyes

Dottie has had a great week!  She and her inmate trainer are working primarily on her basic commands.  She is a quick learner and will have everything fine-tuned soon enough.

Dottie loves to run in the big yard with the other dogs.  Her inmate trainer says that she is a very sweet and loving girl.  He believes that she is going to make some lucky family very happy.  He says that it only going to take one look into Dottie’s beautiful brown eyes to realize that loving her is a must!

Loving and Laid Back

Dottie has really shown progress this week!  She is starting to follow through with “sit” and “down” on command!  Her inmate trainer says it’s slow motion style, but he’s very proud of her progress slow or not!  She still wants to do her own thing while on leash, but her inmate trainer is walking her more and working on correcting this behavior.  She’s doing really well and showing some improvement.

Her inmate trainer is very happy with Dottie’s progress.  He says that she is well behaved around everyone.  She tries to be a little bossy while running in the big yard with the other females.

Dottie is a truly loving and laid back girl.  Her inmate trainer says that she is not a big fan of sitting without a nice mat.  Perhaps there’s a bit of a diva in that beautiful brindle fur?  Excuse me; could someone get this girl a crown and a side of peanut butter?

Making Her Trainer Proud

This week Dottie has been showing her Queen Bee leadership skills.  She tried to be Miss Bossy Pants in the big yard with a couple of the other females.  She is not a fan of other dogs coming near her kennel kingdom.  Her inmate trainer has stepped up to the plate and is showing Dottie that getting along is a fun and rewarding adventure.

Dottie has learned to sit on her own this week!  Her inmate trainer is so proud of her!  She’s also showing progress with all her commands.  When she sees something she wants and goes after it with enthusiasm. Her inmate trainer is working to curb her jumping happiness.  He uses the “off” and “leave it” commands to help correct these behaviors.

Dottie is a very smart and beautiful girl.  Her inmate trainer loves working with her and has no doubt that she’ll have everything figured out very soon!

Making Progress

Dottie is showing progress!  She still likes to pull on the leash and prefers to be first through door.  Her inmate trainer is working to show Dottie that he’s in charge and that doing what is requested of her means a yummy reward!  He knows that the day is coming when she’ll be responding to commands out of unconditional love and he’s looking forward to that day.  The plan for now is to continuing working on the basics and bonding with this sweet girl.

First Impressions

The first week is always so very short since the pups arrive on Thursday and our first summaries are due on Sunday.  Dottie's inmate trainer says she is a beautiful brindle girl who's coat is rich in color - deep and dark!  She's the prettiest brindle he has seen in a long time.

Thus far Dottie appears to not be a bit fan of the leash.  She pulls a bit in her attempt to explore her new surroundings.  This will decrease during the days to come - it always does.  He hasn't officially begun training but has been working with her on her leash etiquette as well as "wait", "let's go" and "kennel".  She is picking up on her new name as well.

Next week training commences fully as they work on "sit" and "down".  Dottie is very food motivated. She also loves toys so he has plenty of things to bribe her with during training.  Dottie is very smart - he is sure she will learn her commands without any issues in a short amount of time.

Stay tuned for more updates!
