Winston's a ray of sunshine

Winston has been amazing for swap week!  He loves learning.   When in the training room, his swap week trainer gave him some basic commands and he did a great job with all of them.  He loves sitting for a toy or treat and will "give" them when asked.  Belly rubs are at the top of his list too.

He also had fun playing with some doggy cones.  They played a fetch game and Winston brought every one of the red cones back to his bed.  He's a greyhound hoarder of toys!  Whoever adopts this sweet boy, will be blessed with happiness every day.  He's a ray of sunshine!

Toys and Naps: the Yin and Yang of Winston

Winston and his trainer have just been having an absolute blast this summer and especially this week. The only down side is that swap week is upon us, so his trainer has to let him go for a week to see how he handles separation anxiety. And so far so good! Other than that, Winston has been having a wonderful time with his trainer. He takes ole Winston to the toy room to play with his favorite stuffed animal and he runs around like a little wild man tossing it this way and that way, spinning in circles at 40 mph. It's so cute! Winston is a born entertainer. But he only goes for a short time before the greyhound sleepies kick in and it's time for a long, decadent nap.

Winston is great at the bed command - you can put him on it when it's nap time, or give him a stuffed animal and he won't budge. He'll be totally centered playing on his bed. You are going to love this absolute goober - he is a cool greyhound from the tip of his lengthy snout to the tip of his noodly tail!

Personality Overload

Winston is a very handsome boy, full of personality and so fun to be around.  He's so smart too.  He enjoys doing his commands and knows all of the 13 basic commands.  He will awe you with his intelligence.  Sometimes his trainer thinks Winston understands him better than he does himself.

Winston aims to please.  His trainer can tell him to "stay".  Walk to the others side of  the room and say "heel", and Winston will hit 40 mph coming across the room, slide past his trainer and park a "heel" perfect by his side!  It's something to see.  Winston can also hit 40 mph to Zero just a quick when you tell him "bed".  Such a smart cookie.

This week Winston's trainer worked on a few extra commands.  "Shake", "bow" and "spin".  Winston will be ready to WOW all your friends with these fun commands.

Best Boy EVER!

Winston's trainer is so proud of his progress! Every day he spends with Winston, he learns something new about his personality. That's one of the coolest things about greyhounds. The dog you knew last week is going to be a little different from (and even cooler) than the dog you know today. Winston is no exception. He has made such amazing progress since he first arrived and it's safe to say that a lot of the things that used to make him nervous don't even faze him anymore.

Winston is so much fun to play with because he is so engaged. Winston shows enthusiasm like his trainer's never seen before, and he remains aware of his surroundings even when going full throttle. He is so smart and has such a unique personality, lit up with intelligence and love and joy when he gets to spend time with his human. Winston is so cool that you can't help but love this guy! He is a truly one of a kind dog in this world. I hope you're ready for your life to change, because it's about to get a whole lot more magical with Winston in it!

Aims To Please

Winston is doing super!  His inmate trainer says that when Winston first entered the program he was like a squirrel chasing a nut.  With a little trust he and his inmate trainer became fast friends.  His inmate trainer says that he put the friendship first and training second, and it all came together nicely.  Since then, Winston has been more fun loving than any of the others.  He’s a guy who aims to please and wants to learn his commands. He’s got them all down pat at almost 100% and his inmate trainer says that he has no doubt that Winston will have everything down without a hitch come graduation time.  At times he likes to see the treat reward before he follows through.  He’s just checking to make sure the payment is worth the follow through.

Besides all that, Winston is a joy to play with.  He has so much fun with stuffed animals that you can’t help but smile when you see him play. He has a super personality that you can’t help but fall for.  His inmate trainer says that whoever adopts this sweet boy  is going to be the luckiest person ever!

Total Package

Winston spent some quality time with his secondary trainer this week. "I believe Winston has so much potential - he has opened his heart so much since the first day he arrived here at Jenkins!" Winston has not shown any signs of aggression or dominance, and shows the classic greyhound natural trust of humans. This handsome guy with the funniest racing name around, has the heart of a champion and overcomes his nervousness and fears daily. Certain things still make him a little nervous, but that doesn't dampen his playful spirit one bit! He is a uniquely intelligent greyhound and is a real morning person (maybe you can train him how to operate a Keurig if you're not a morning person ;)). His tail wags back and forth, and he just gets so excited to start his day.

If you give this sweet guy a chance, you will find him so easy to love and he'll burrow right into your heart! He's cool, playful and gentle - what more could you want?!

Get a load of this guy!

Winston is just such a great greyhound. His trainer has been having a blast with him. He started out a little frightful, jumping at noises and trying to go the other way when people would approach him. But now he stands his ground well and wags his tail when it's time to get up and go for his morning walk. He runs around all excited, tail wagging, greeting everyone he sees in the dorm.

When training, Winston's trainer works on focusing his attention just on him so that Winston learns to adapt to strange noises and sort of filter them out. Winston likes to roll around on his bed with his toys, and he is just so funny to watch. You can tell he tries to get his trainer's attention, wanting him to wrestle around with him on the floor. He is such a funny guy - new dimensions of his personality emerge every day as he feels more at home here. Just think of how many adventures you could have together, with that blossoming personality showing you new things every day!

Back Scratches Please

Winston and his inmate trainer have been having a great time together!  Winston sleeps well, so well in fact that his inmate trainer has to wake him up.  Winston happily obliges right after a nice long stretch.  Winston is a sweet boy who enjoys attention and doesn’t mind a hug. He’s not one to turn down a good scratch either.

Training is going well. Winston has caught on to hurry, let’s go, kennel, release, wait, here, sit, down, stay and bed.  He’s still a little unsure of heel and the whole jump thing… well, he’s thinking about that one.  Winston is not a huge fan of loud big crowds, but as his confidence grows he seems to be becoming a little more comfortable. His inmate trainer says that he’s enjoying his time with Winston and can’t wait to see what he learns next!

Sweet-Natured Boy

Welcome to training Winston!  His inmate trainer says these first few days they have spent time getting to know each other.  Winston is a little unsure of his new surroundings, but with time he will gain confidence in this new place.  His inmate trainer says that he’s a sweet natured greyhound who is already picking up on wait, kennel and bed!  They’ve been working on leash walking and spending time in the crowded training area and he’s doing really well!  His inmate trainer believes that it’s going to be a great training session and can’t wait to watch Winston grow and learn!
