Well Mannered Pup, Percy

Swap week was is here for the pups at Jenkins!  Those of you who may be unfamiliar with the concept, it's the week when all the primary trainers switch dogs.  They test for separation anxiety and ensure they will do the commands for anyone, not just those on their training team.  Percy did excellent!  His trainer for the week said Percy is such a sweet and well behaved dog that he really didn't want to give him up at the end of the week!

Percy did a great job with all of his commands and is incredibly well-mannered while walking on a leash.  One thing that stood out and made the trainer laugh, was how slow Percy eats.  Whether it's eating out of a bowl or out of your hand.  It's comical how much care he seems to invest in eating.

Percy will make a greyt forever home addition.  You will not be disappointed.  He's got a perfect balance of energy and calmness that will brighten anyone's day in a glance.  Enjoy this awesome pup, Percy!!

Mister Popular!

Another great week with Percy in the books! His training has continued going smoothly as expected with no problems. His trainer worked with him on his most hesitant command, jump, and now he does it with no hesitation at all! What a champ. Everything else has been perfected!

Percy is one of the dorm favorites, and every time he is out and about he has so many friends which he absolutely loves. He is definitely a people dog, and there are no strangers in his orbit. He really loves to be outside. He's like Ariel the mermaid... he wants to beeee, where the people are, wants to see em dancing! He would explore outside FOREVER if you let him!

There are only two more weeks which makes his trainer sad because that means sweet Percy will have to leave, but he has enjoyed his time with Percy so much. He will be missed when he goes to his new forever home, but that's what this program is all about. Our trainers work their figurative tails off so that when their pupil pups come home to you with their literal tails wagging, you will love 'em to bits and show them off nonstop!

Life Of The Party

Percy is a playful guy.   He makes everyone light up around him, as he is certainly the life of the party!  No sad days with Percy!

Percy knows all of his basic commands all with verbal cues and some with hand signals.  One of the best commands a greyhound can learn is recall - "Here".  Percy excels with this one.  Every morning the dogs get to run off leash.  A quick "Percy Here", and he bolts over to his trainer like he is the most interesting person ever.  It's also a sign of a well-trained greyhound.

Happy Boy!

Percy's trainer cannot get over what an easy-going dog he is! It is such a delight to train this handsome guy. His favorite thing about Percy is his enthusiasm when he realizes it's time to go O-U-T and play or train. He always greets his trainer by running (after released), tail wagging, bouncing up and down.

His training is going well and he is getting more comfortable with stairs and "jump." He's mastered all of his other commands! There aren't any other hurdles to overcome. Percy just learns so easily. He'll be coasting til graduation day!

Cutie Pie

Week 5 is here and Percy is doing great!  He was introduced to "jump" and "stairs" this week and his trainer is proud to announce he has mastered "jump" and "stairs" are not far behind.  He will easily walk up the stairs, but tries to jump all the way down.  His trainer is working with him on that and knows it will only be a matter of time until he figures out 1 step at a time is so much better.

Percy loves his daily morning routine.  For about a half hour he gets to freely roam the dorm soaking up as much petting and loving he can get.  No one can resist that cute face!  He's become a dorm favorite.

Percy has mastered all of his basic commands and is always eager to learn more.  He is one of the funniest and sweetest greyhounds his trainer has ever worked with.  He is loving every minute with cutie pie Percy!

Can't Resist Percy

There were a few changes in Percy’s training regiment.  This can sometimes cause a little stress, but Percy adapted quickly.  He was a little unsure on the first day, but took to the changes without disruption.  He’s such a well-behaved boy that his inmate trainer lets him roam around the dorm on his own.  He enjoys the freedom and has made many new friends.  He’s a well-loved dog who is hard to resist with his sweet personality.

His inmate trainer says that he loves Percy’s enthusiasm for each new adventure.  He loves to play and is doing great with all of his commands. He catches on quickly to new routines and training commands.

Playtime with Percy

Percy is having the time of his life! Eat, play, sleep - what's not to love about that? Percy loves when he gets to explore the dorm. He runs around from person to person, getting as much love as he can. He is even good with the other dogs! A quick smell of his fellow retirees and he moves right along.

Percy is moving forward nicely with training. He is great at the bed command - if you tell him to lay down, he will stay right there until you release him. He has the perfect combination of high energy and obedience. Of course, after each training session, he gets some fun playtime. Percy's playtime sessions are loaded with cuteness. His trainer wishes he could wear a Go-Pro and capture all these moments! He takes one of the red rubber Kongs and throws it around, chases it, and prances around with it. Then he throws it again! I challenge anyone NOT to smile during Percy's Playtime.

He and his trainer are loving their time together and his trainer is starting to think that 10 weeks might not be enough time to love on him... and that's where YOU come in!

Until next week!

Happiest Boy Around!

Percy has really come alive over the past week. He is so incredibly happy all of the time, except for when the occasional boom of summertime thunder strikes. That puts him a little bit on edge but he recovers very well.

He has been working on wait, bed, and sit, all of which he is learning very well. It seems that the key to Percy learning how to sit was simply to use a squeaky toy. Ever since he has discovered these wondrous, squeaking stuffed animals, training has been an absolute breeze. He is working on going into a sit position whenever he wants a toy. This is much better than the alternative of trying to grab it himself. Everyone prefers a boy with manners! Rest assured, Percy is enjoying every minute of his newfound retirement and is working his little butt off to be the perfect companion for his forever family!

Percy the People Pleaser

So far, Percy has already made himself at home and is a great addition to the Second Chance family. He is incredibly friendly and craves attention from anyone willing to pet him. While Percy initially was not a fan of being alone in his kennel, he has since grown accustomed to it and even runs right in when given the "kennel" command. His adjustment period was quick and painless, so this coming week will be full of advanced training. His trainer says he is so excited to see what fun and interesting adventures Percy has in store for him!
