It's That Time.... Graduation

Squiggy’s inmate trainer wrote, “I can’t wait for ya’ll to finally meet Squiggy. You’re going to love him! Squiggy has gotten all 10’s on all of his basic commands. He’s so smart. As long as you have food and a squeaky toy he’ll love you forever. I’m excited for Squiggy’s next transition to his forever home. I know he will love you. He meets no strangers. Enjoy this sweet boy!”

Down For A Good Neck Rub

This week was swap week at Second Chance Greyhounds Academy. For those of you that aren’t familiar with swap week, it’s when the inmate trainers swap hounds with one another. They do this to test for separation anxiety, bad behaviors, and the hounds ability to adapt to different handlers and schedules.

As luck would have it, this swap week trainer got the pleasure to work with Squiggy this week. Squiggy is a very good-looking hound with a sleek, black coat and warm, honey brown eyes that make it impossible to ignore him. He loves affection, especially a good neck rub. He is very treat motivated. He knows his commands very well and enjoys doing them.

Squiggy settled right in from day one, showing no signs of separation anxiety, but definitely an eagerness to work. His swap week trainer had a blast working with him this week and he’s sure his forever family will enjoy him as well.

Ready To Make The Break

Squiggy continues to perform his commands very well. He’s a little slow to respond to sit and down, but he will eventually do them. Squiggy likes toys a lot. Anything that makes a noise, he’s all game for it, but when you say the “give” command, he’ll drop it, so you can get it. He is such a sweet boy and his trainer knows you will fall in love with him as soon as he looks at you with those baby brown eyes. He hopes Squiggy brings lots of joy to your family’s life. Squiggy is ready to make his break out of prison.

Get Ready For Squiggy

This week of training went really well with Squiggy! He was tested with verbal cues only on his commands and he passed with flying colors. Squiggy knows all of them with hand signals too, but he hasn’t been tested on them yet.

Squiggy is such a smart and loving dog that learns really well. From this point forward, they will be fine tuning his training. His trainer can already tell that he will be more than ready for his new home. Are you ready for Squiggy?

Happy Go Lucky Boy

Squiggy’s inmate trainer says he can’t believe it’s week 6 already!  He feels like Squiggy just arrived!  He says that Squiggy has been a lot of fun and he’s sure his new forever family will fall hard for this sweet boy.  Prepare yourself for the most adorable brown eyes with heart melting capabilities.  He uses them to get whatever he wants, because really, how can you refuse such cuteness??!

He knows all of his commands!  He knows many of those commands with verbal and hand signal cues!  He will release from a command into a “heel” patiently waiting for your next request.

Squiggy doesn’t meet a stranger. He loves everyone!  He’s happy go lucky with a very laid-back personality.  His inmate trainer says that he’s very thankful for the chance to train this amazing boy!

Squeaky Ball Surprise

Squiggy has been dong great this week. His trainers worked with him on “down” and he caught on to it quite quickly. He knows kennel, release, bed and jump well, and the others are coming along nicely.

Squiggy and the other greyhounds had a field day on the small yard to see how they socialized with each other. Squiggy loved it! They had all kinds of toys out, but Squiggy was drawn to a squeaky ball. He ran all around the place, squeaking that ball and having a grand old time. His trainer said he’s having so much fun working with Squiggy and watching him grow.

Loving Retirement Life

Another week in the training books for Squiggy and he’s still doing great. His commands are coming right along and this week they will be working quite a bit on the “down” command and his trainer will keep us updated on how it goes.

Squiggy loves going out for a run and always takes a couple laps around and he’s a happy hound. After that, he’s ready for his nap. Squiggy loves his naps and just hanging out with his trainer. He’s definitely loving retirement life.

Training Is Coming Right Along

It’s week 3 and Squiggy’s inmate trainer says that things couldn’t be progressing any better.  He learned “leave it” this week!  This one can be hard for some dogs. They see the food and their instinct is to eat it as fast as they can before someone comes along and takes it.  He’s also learned how to sit and is performing it without any problems!

Squiggy’s inmate trainer says that he believes Squiggy is going to make a fantastic addition to some lucky family out there!

Loving Personality

Week two and things are going great with Squiggy!  His inmate trainer says that Squiggy has been performing beautifully!  In just two weeks time he already knows: let’s go, kennel, release, heel, here, bed, stay and wait!  He’s always eager to learn (the treats do not seem to hurt his feelings either).

His inmate trainer says that Squiggy has a very loving personality and that It’s been a blast working with him!

Affectionate And Friendly

I’m loving this hound’s name, Squiggy! Now how can that not just bring a smile to your face!(Squiggy). He is progressing well. The first week his trainer does basic training exercises; eye contact, leash walking, kennel, release from kennel and bed. He seems to pick up things quickly.

Squiggy’s trainer said he is very affectionate and friendly. A pure joy to work with and looks forward to the week’s ahead.
