Tens Across the Board

Dear Forever Family,

It’s the holidays again, a time for family.  That is why Able’s trainers have spent this week polishing Able up to ensure he is ready to become the newest addition to his adoptive family.

Able already does a spectacular job with all of his basic commands and has thirteen extra commands to show off as well.  Able can “Bow”, “Shake”, “Paws Up” and “Kiss” just to name a few.  He passed his final testing with tens across the board and is now ready to come home to his new family.  Happy holidays!

Ready for My Forever Home

This week was swap week, and one of the teams got the chance to work with Able. Able was wonderful the entire time they had him! He went through his commands like they were second nature and he was born to do them. Able is a very fun-loving dog with plenty of energy, and he enjoyed running with his fellow dogs and playing with toys. He is going to make one lucky household very happy very soon!

Toy-Shakin' for Days

To Able’s forever family:

Able keeps giving his best! His trainer has been going through all of the commands with him and his response time gets better and quicker every time, to both hand signal and verbal commands. Able makes great, positive eye contact with each command.

Able has one toy bear that he loves to play with, throwing the bear up in the air to himself and catching it, then shaking it around; but as soon as you call his name, he is right back to being focused on you, alert and ready for his next mission. The more his trainer has worked with Able, the more he’s fallen in love with his dazzling, adorable personality!

Ear Scratches, Please?

Able is a very alert dog who knows his name and is easy to love. He is a very go-with-the-flow kind of guy. If you're active, he's active; if you're laid-back, he's laid-back. This week, Able has been doing a great job at leash-walking and correcting himself. If you stop walking and he's in front of you, Able knows to get back into the heel position and wait for the next command. Able would rather correct himself than let you do it for him; he's got initiative! When he knows what you expect from him, all he wants to do is please you. Especially if it earns him a nice scratch behind the ears. Able is an all-around good dog and his secondary trainer is looking forward to what Able will show him next week!

Beggin' for Bacon

Dear forever family,

Able is coming along great! He listens very well and is always ready to learn (or receive treats in exchange for performing). Able has a lot of favorite treats, but the bacon strips seem to be his number one. He also loves peanut butter cookies. The only thing Able loves more than treats is running!

At night, his trainer puts him on a dog bed beside him while he watches a movie or the newest episode of The Voice. He will sit there and stare at his trainer – it’s so cute! It’s like he wants to have a conversation with you.

We hope you are ready for a wonderful pup to come into your life because he is ready for you!

Wonderful Boy!

Able’s inmate trainer says that week five has come to an end an Able is doing great! So far he has learned all of his basic commands. He’s still a little slow responding to some of the commands, but he understands what he’s supposed to do. His inmate trainer plans to spend the coming days reinforcing each command and cleaning up Able’s response time.

It’s been a rainy week which means no big yard runs and playtime. Able has been looking forward to the day he can get out and kick up his paws. In the meantime, his inmate trainer takes him to the training room to play inside. His trainer says that training Able has been a lot of fun and that you can’t help but smile when you’re around this wonderful boy.

Zooming into Your Heart

Dear future forever family,

Here we are at our first month's evaluation, and Able's trainer is so proud of him. He is doing all of his commands at about 75% proficiency right now, but this guy loves learning and being rewarded for learning. He will have these tricks mastered in no time. Able has done so well at show and tell and the only thing that Able seems to love more is running on the big yard. Let me tell you, he is one fast pup! All of the trainers enjoy watching him zoom.

In the evenings, Able and his trainer like to watch TV together. His favorite show is The Voice, and they both root for Blake Shelton to win! Able likes to lay on the bed in the dayroom regardless of what's on TV; he will lie there without getting up for hours. His trainer can go about his daily routine and Able will just lie there and watch him. His trainer loves spending time with him and is looking forward to the rest of the session with this special guy.

Off And Running

Able got to run in the big yard this week!  As soon as his inmate trainer let go he took off running and wagging his tail.  Once he was done he returned to his inmate trainer ready for some rest and relaxation.

Able was introduced to toys this week.  He loves playing and bouncing around.  He performed his first “sit” this week!    He’s sitting 6 out of 10 times now!  His inmate trainer says that they’ll work to improve response time, but that he’s very proud of Able!

Able Aims To Please

Two weeks have passed since Able arrived at Jenkins, and his trainer is already in love. Able is very sweet and his tail is always wagging. His trainer can tell he is very loving. The other day his trainer sat down beside him and Able laid his head on his leg. He petted him until he fell asleep. Awe. Doesn’t that just melt your heart?

Able’s trainer worked on leash walking, “kennel”, “wait” and “heel” this week. Able is moving along nicely and his trainer said it has been a pleasure working with this sweet boy. Check back next week for more updates on Mr. Able.

Ready, Willing & "Able" To Learn

Week 1 has been a great week with Able.  His trainer has not worked on a lot of training, mainly building a bond and learning his personality.  So far, Able is a wonderful pup.  He is very submissive and humble.  He loves treats and attention.  He seems to have a lot of potential and his trainer plans to take advantage of that learning perk.

Able is also a very good-looking boy with a shiny black coat and hypnotic brown eyes.  He looks as though he is attempting to stare into your soul.  He gives his trainer the impression that he loves life and wants to share his love with everyone.  His trainer named him Able, because not only is he able to learn anything, but he also feels he is able to do anything when working with this sweet boy.  Greyhounds definitely have a way with making any day brighter.
