Graduating To A New Life

Graduation week is here and Goose and his inmate trainer made it to the finish line!  His inmate trainer says that Goose’s commands are superb and periodically he receives treat rewards for a job well done.  Goose is fascinated with toys and will pull in the direction of any toy to play with it.  Once he has the toy in his possession he will let his trainer retrieve it without any problem.  He doesn’t seem to mind sharing his food or toys.

Goose graduates with a nice collection of tricks up his furry sleeve such as: hurry, let’s go, kennel, release, wait, heel, here, sit, down, stay, bed, jump, bow, pars up, lap, touch, and kisses!

His inmate trainer is going to miss this great guy, but knows that he will make his new forever family very happy!

Friendly And Outgoing

Goose spent the week with an alternate inmate trainer for swap week!  When he first arrived he did seem to miss his primary handler, but warmed up to his alternate handler fast.

His alternate handler says that Goose is an outgoing and friendly guy.  He does well with all of his commands and when it’s time to eat he’ll let you know!  He’s learning to share his toys and loves to play and run.  He says that Goose is a great dog who’s good around the other Greyhounds and may possibly be really good with kids.

Toys, Toys, Toys

Goose’s inmate trainer writes in to say that Goose is a true pleasure to have around.  He says that training Goose has made him a different person.  He says that there’s nothing better than waking up to Goose’s sweet face and being with him the rest of the day.  He has been told by other people that they see an improvement in his attitude and personality.  He credits Goose for this improvement!

As far as training goes, Goose is doing great!  His basic commands come easy to him and he does them with and without treats!  He loves toys and doesn’t seem to mind sharing.  His trainer says that it’s hard to make Goose stay away from toys because once he ears one he wants it!  They’ve also been working on stairs and he’s doing really well with them.  Goose believes that two or three trips up and down are enough.

His inmate trainer hopes that Goose finds a family to love him and gives him a second chance to be a pet.

Back Rubs And Chase

This week Goose and his inmate trainer have been working to reinforce all of the basic commands.  His inmate trainer is proud to report that Goose is responding to his commands quickly and efficiently!  He is a little reluctant to remain in the down position on his bed, but his trainer is working to extend this command and has no doubt that Goose will be performing like a pro soon!  They have also been working on touch and back this week.  Goose is a quick learner and treat motivated.  As training progresses the treats will be replaced with praise rewards.

Goose is doing much better with sharing his toys!  His inmate trainer says that he doesn’t mind sharing at all when you have his attention.

Goose and his inmate trainer have been playing chase.  His inmate trainer can’t seem to stay out front very long, but Goose loves the game so he jumps in there with him.

Goose loves to have his back rubbed!  His inmate trainer says that Goose has become a very special friend who has a calming effect and seems to be able to read his trainers moods.  He says that when he feels like he needs a hug Goose will lean on him as if to say he understands.

Treats, Playtime, And Training

This week Goose and his inmate trainer have been working on leave it, drop it, and give.  His inmate trainer says that these are key commands when teaching dogs that its okay to share toys.   His inmate trainer is proud to report that Goose is doing much better with sharing!  Goose gets really excited when he sees the other dogs and can’t wait to go play with them.  Goose loves treats, but will now do his commands without them!

Goose interacts well with new people and enjoys attention.  His inmate trainer believes that he is going to make a wonderful addition to his new home!

The Stair King

Goose attempted stairs today and it wound it being a pretty easy task for him!  His inmate trainer didn’t have to coax him up or down!  Goose likes his toys and doesn’t really want to share so his inmate trainer has been working on the give, drop, and leave it commands.

His trainer is also working to eliminate treat rewards, but Goose would rather work with them.  His trainer says that Goose is excellent with the recall command and he’s making really good progress with his basics.

His inmate trainer believes that Goose is going to be a wonderful addition to some lucky family out there!

Smart And Good Lookin'

The time has come….. training without treats.  Goose is very treat motivated and is not too sure about this new reward system.   He’s responding well, but would much rather have yummy snacks for payment.  He’s doing really well with his basic commands and is working on bow, paws up and visit!

He loves to play with toys and running out in the big yard along with the other dogs.  His inmate trainer believes that Goose is going to be a wonderful addition to some lucky family.  He says that Goose has made a difference in his life teaching him about trust, respect, patience and responsibility.

One Great Boy

Goose is doing a tremendous job with training!  His inmate trainer says that Goose is an easy dog to train.  He's adjusted well to the prison environment and his trainer believes that he'll adjust well wherever he goes.

Goose is very treat motivated while training, but his inmate trainer is working to slowly remove the treat reward.  Goose interacts well with the other dogs and has no problems with interaction with his toys or food.  He can be a little skittish when being groomed but his trainer is working to build his confidence and make him more comfortable.

His inmate trainer says that Goose is a great dog and fun to be with!

Laid Back And Easy Going

Goose is one special guy.  His inmate trainer says that Goose likes attention, but does not go out of his way to get it.  He does not mind sharing his toys or having anyone around while he’s eating.  He enjoys toys, but only plays with them for a few minutes before losing interest.

He’s doing great with his basic commands!  He’s doing well with hurry, let’s go, release3, wait, and bed. He’s a little slow responding to heel, here, sit, down, stay and jump but his trainer knows he’ll have these commands licked… errrr mastered in no time!

Goose enjoys play time with the other Greyhounds and doesn’t seem to need to be the leader of the pack.

His inmate trainer believes that Goose is going to be a great family dog!  He hopes that Goose finds a wonderful family who will give him a second chance to be loved.
