Ready And Raring To Go

This is the final week here with Abby and she has made it through with flying colors!   She passed the test and will be graduating with her class of 12 on Thursday.  Way to go Abby!

She will always hold a special place in her trainer's heart.  She definitely will be missed.  Abby is a special girl and is going to make a wonderful companion for her adoptive family.  Enjoy every minute.

Graduation, Here I Come!

Abby did great during swap week! She adjusted just fine to being around a new person and will adjust quickly to her new forever family. She passed all of her commands on her final test and now has her GED (Generally Educated Dog). The team is spending the last few days maintaining what she's learned and teaching her as many simple extras as time permits. Abby has been a wonderful dog to work with and her primary trainer says he could not have asked for a better first dog to work with as a primary. She is really going to be missed!

Precious Pup!

This is swap week and Abby's trainer for the week said 7 days is not long enough with this girl, because she is so darn precious!  He said My Sweet Abby's name really suits her.  She is very sweet and and is such a precious pup.  She knows all of her commands and does them on cue.  Abby loves chasing and playing with toys, but calms down quickly.

This girl is as smart as they come.  Abby is a joy to be around and some lucky family is in for a real treat!

Abby The Bed Connoisseur

Abby picked up on this hand holding thing (shake) pretty quickly, so her trainer introduced "bow" this week.  She's a smart cookie, so her trainer anticipates she will catch on to this one with no problem.  Abby is eager to learn and such a happy-go-lucky dog. She is very curious about the world around her.  Nothing gets by this girl without a look, sniff or touch.

Abby likes toys, but she LOVES food.  She is motivated by treats or kibble.  It doesn't matter.  She's not a picky girl in the food department.  This has made it easy to train this sweet girl.

Abby would like to let her forever family know that she likes a fluffy pile to lay on, so don't be surprised if she completely rearranges the bed you make up for her.  She will paw at the blanket until she gets it just the way she likes it.  She's one cute, silly girl when it comes to her bed.

Shake, Shake, Shake, Señora!

Abby has adjusted very well to her new primary trainer. She is a real trooper! This week she learned jump and after a little coaxing, she nailed it like a champ. Now, after a couple of days of practice, she's got it down pat. Since she pretty much has all of her basic commands nailed down, she is now learning some extras, starting with "shake." So far, she's still apprehensive of what this hand holding is, but she's determined to learn it.

Abby is such a sweet dog! She's curious about absolutely everything, friendly, and is unconditionally happy to be alive. Maybe we're biased, but of course all of the dogs are great in their own way. Abby is just so easy-going and lovable, and such a breeze to work with. You're gonna be so glad you invited this gal into your heart!

Abby, The Dream Dog

Abby, a sweet, friendly girl that is curious about the world around her.  She is eager to learn and very smart.   Her trainer said she is a dream dog.  He couldn't have asked for a better greyhound to train.  She knows all of her basic commands and he may work on some extras in the coming weeks.

This week Abby learned how to go up and down stairs.  She was a little nervous at first, but like the trooper she is, she flew up them the first try.  There should be no problems with stairs with Sweet Abby.  She's the stair champ!  Abby is awesome and her trainer is enjoying every minute with her.

The Fast and the Curious: Peanut Butter Drift

Sweet Abby has had an awesome week! She now knows all of her basic commands and enjoys her training sessions. She is such a quick learner, absorbing knowledge like a sponge. She enjoys play time and loves her Kong with peanut butter as a reward. Greyhounds and peanut butter are truly the world's most powerful combination: nothing can get between a greyhound and their peanut butter. Well, the Kong toy does. But it's not the destination, it's the journey to the peanut butter ("but I love the destination!" - Abby).

When Abby sees the peanut butter, she sits immediately and waits for her favorite treat in the world. There are few more precious sights than a greyhound eating peanut butter and trying to get every last delicious molecule.

Abby loves being around humans and other dogs. She has had no problems getting used to her new life in the dorm, and will adjust just as quickly to her forever home. Abby is a great dog and will make a wonderful companion to whoever is lucky enough to welcome her into their hearts.

Attention Hound

Abby has done extremely well this week.  She "sits" and "downs" great with just hand signals.  After a long training session she is ready for a nap.  She has acclimated well to prison life and is treat motivated.  She is very smart and quick to learn anything you ask of her.  She can perform all of her basic commands and most of them she will do when asked only once.

Abby is going to be a great addition for any family, large or small.  She loves people and having all the attention on her.  The star of the show.  She lives up to her name...  Sweet Abby.

Learnin' and Lovin'

Abby has done great this week! She knows kennel, bed, hurry and heel. She is so smart and enjoys her training time, but when she is done she lays down to let you know. She has no aggression problems and isn't treat-motivated at this time.

Abby is adjusting well to her new environment and the other dogs and people here. It's only two weeks in and we can already tell that she is going to make a great companion for anyone!

Irresistible!

Sweet Abby fits this girl perfectly!  She has only been at the prison for three days and has adjusted very well to her new surroundings.  She is a smart girl and training should be a breeze.    Abby and her trainer have been mainly bonding this week.  She did learn the “bed” command and loves it.  Who can blame her.  After all, she is a Greyhound and they are famous for being lazy couch potatoes.

Abby loves roaming around the dorm exploring everything.  She loves meeting new people and all the attention she gets.  Check back next week to see what Abby has been up to.
