Here I Come!

It’s swap week. This is where the dogs switch trainers for the week to see how they do taking commands from someone other than their primary trainer. Chewie’s swap week trainer said he is a happy, excited and playful dog. He did well with leash walking and his basic commands. He loves toys and will “give’ up the toy when asked. He does get excited, but does calm down easily. Chewie is ready for his forever home and I know you are ready for Chewie.

Chewie = Lot's Of Fun!

Chewie is an energetic, smart guy, who is friendly and happy.  He is curious about everything but does well with training despite the busy world around him.  He’s smart and learns quickly.  Well, the treats don’t hurt either…

His inmate trainer says that Chewie is a lot of fun to be around.  His  inmate trainer say at that Cheiwe is a real affectionate ham.  Be prepared to laugh and have fun with him!

Greyt Giver

Once again, Chewie is doing great!  He has come a long way since arriving just a short time ago.  His commands and leash walking is superb.  He will now hold his commands until his trainer says “release”.  He can walk around the whole dorm, while Chewie stays in one position.    He has also come a long way with toys.  He now enjoys playing with them and will “give” them up.  If his trainer says “give”, Chewie will back away from the toy and allow his trainer to take it.

Chewie is a playful pup, but calms easily.  You will enjoy having him around the house.  He’s a great boy and will be your furever friend.

Curious Chewie

Chewie got to work with is secondary inmate trainer this week!  He says that Chewie is has a curious zest for life and if anything peaks his interest he wants to give it a sniff.

Before working together his secondary inmate trainer took some time to feed Chewie by hand to work on a little bonding.  Chewie didn’t mind showing off all of his commands.  They use “leave it” a lot to keep him focused when his investigative nature tries to prevail.  He’s still young, turning 2 next month, but even for a youngster he’s doing fantastic!

Smart Boy

Guess what? Chewie did his first “down” a couple of days ago and will now do it on command. This means he knows all his basic command, with verbal cues and hand signals. What a smart boy. He’s also very good at leash walking.

Chewie started playing with toys and his favorite one is a toy that looks like a squirrel with a long tail. He is a playful boy but calms easily. His trainer is enjoying the time he gets to spend with Chewie. He has a special place in his heart.

Working On Those Commands

Hello once again.  Chewie is doing fine and has gotten all of his commands mastered, except one, “down”.  His trainer is sure he will get it figured out within the week.  He is a smart and outgoing boy and has picked up things very fast.

Chewie enjoys getting brushed and petted.  He also likes running on the big yard with the other greyhounds.  He doesn’t mind just lounging around on a dog bed watching tv, sleeping the day away either.  Chewie’s trainer is very proud of how far he has come in a short time.

Gentle Giant

Hello again, with another update on Chewie! He has really been doing so well and his leash walking has improved significantly. He will stay beside you the entire time! Chewie is very smart and has mastered sit, and although it took a little time, he now does it on command. This week, they are going to see how he likes toys. He has a very playful personality, but sometimes it takes a while for them to get used to toys.

Chewie is very calm and accepting of his environment, already having his feeding routine down pat. He is so good with all of his commands and very responsive to his trainer. His trainer can even put his hand in his food bowl while he is eating, and he will eat very gently around his trainer's hand. This is a very good thing and it shows that he has no food aggression problems. Soon they will start working on the down command, and his trainer anticipates that he will have no problem with it. Check on his progress next week and see if he likes those toys!

Retirement Life Is Good

Chewie is doing great!  He has really picked up on his commands.  He can now “wait” at the door until his inmate trainer says, “let’s go”.  He will “stay” in one spot until released and his leash walking skills have greatly improved!  He walks next to his trainer, stopping when requested.  Hi inmate trainer says that Chewie just wants to make his human happy.

He had his teeth brushed this week and did just fine.  Chewie likes to sleep a lot.  It is retirement ya know. His inmate trainer says he loves spending time with this sweet boy, even when he’s sleeping.

Beautiful Eyes

Everything is going good with Chewie (named after Chewbacca off of Star Wars). He walked right into the dorm after getting off the truck and enjoyed getting pampered with a bath, ear cleaning and nail trim. Chewie is a very calm dog and nothing seems to really bother him so far. He is a very handsome boy with these deep brown eyes that you will get lost in and just want to love on him.

The first couple of days Chewie’s trainer fed him out of his hand to start forming a bond. This week they are working on leash walking and he’s getting better at it. His trainer thinks Chewie will pick up on his commands very easy and looks forward to working with him in the coming weeks. Check back next week for Chewie’s progress.
