She's Back!

Little Miss Stormi is back again. We very much hate this but know her forever home is out there. She’s a sweet girl who really just wants to lie around and do nothing, like most Greyhounds. She likes walks, running around the backyard, and hanging with her Greyhound buddies. She prefers females. She needs an experienced Greyhound adopter with no cats, no small dogs, no birds, and no children in the home. She prefers a quite home as loud noises frighten her.

If you are that special someone, please reach out to her foster Mom, Patti, at chair@secondchancegreyhounds.org.

A Real Joy

Stormi has been a real joy to work with according to her trainer.  He has really enjoyed spending time with her every day.  She has worked really hard and knows all of her commands.

Stormi is very curious and enjoys checking out new things to see what is going on.  She knows the “Here” command very well and when used, she comes back with her tail wagging.  Stormi will be missed by her trainer but will always be in his heart.

Her trainer is so thankful for having the opportunity to train Stormi.

Happy-Go-Lucky

This week Stormi got to spend some time with a swap week trainer., and her swap week team thought she was amazing! They loved having her this week and working with her on her commands. She is shy, but easy to win over. When her main swap week trainer ran her through her commands, she did amazing on all of them except for one, which was the down command. This one is tough; I mean, just look at their toothpick legs! Her swap week trainer took her out of her kennel during the weekend and let her chill on the bed, and she loved it so much. She is such a happy-go-lucky pup!

Popcorn & A Movie

My name is Stormi and I love taking long naps and hanging out with my bestie (trainer). I’m a pro at my commands and know them with verbal cues and hand signals. I’m pretty smart, if I do say so myself. I’m also a very sweet girl and no one can resist my cute ears. Just look at them!

It won’t be long before I’m heading to my forever home, so a little note to my new family… I love marshmallows and popcorn, big comfy beds and treats of any kinds. See you soon!

Precious Girl

Stormi has reached a peak in her training. She has become proficient in all of her basic commands. Stormi’s inmate trainer is working to help her understand that it’s okay to share her personal space while on her bed and that giving her Kong toy up is a good and fun thing to do.

Stormi’s inmate trainer says that Stormi is a true princess diva. She’s kinda like a cat who likes to go about things in her own time. She’s a precious girl and her inmate trainer says that it’s a joy teaching her new things.

Getting Cozy

Hello everyone!

My name is Stormi, and if I say so myself, I believe it suits me quite well. For the past several weeks, I have learned so much – 13 whole commands! I was a little bit slow on sit and down (they reassured me that these are the two toughest ones for greyhounds because of the way we are shaped and how long our legs are), but I know them now. My secondary trainer has been working with me a lot and it has been great! He is new to training, so we get to learn from each other. He is a little nervous but is getting better every day – just like me!

During the next few weeks until graduation, I will be practicing my commands to make sure I know them forwards and backwards for my forever family – you! I am really clocking in the training hours, both for myself and training my secondary on how to train (me, right?). I’m sure he will be much more confident when the next session starts, just like I would be if I got to do this 10-week stint all over again!

That’s all for this week; I am looking forward to leaving here and getting cozy in my forever home! I will always be grateful for my time here with all these humans around to love on us all day. Until next time!

Sweetheart Stormi

Stormi has grasped the basic concept of all of her commands. Her inmate trainer has taken training a little slower while she adjusts to her new environment. She masters the commands then gets a little shy about them so her inmate trainer just slows down and helps her boost her confidence. She has a reserved personality and likes to take her time when in new environments and with new people. Slow and steady…

Stormi’s inmate trainer says that Stormi is coming right along and opens up more every day! She’s a sweetheart and her trainer is enjoying her company.

Moving Right Along In Her Training

Stormi has made even more progress this week!  She has become more sociable and less reserved.  Her inmate trainer says that she seems to have grasped the treat reward for the training gig and is diggin’ it.

She started sitting on command this week!  She handles all of her other commands with little to no difficulty.  Her inmate trainer says they’ll be working to clean her response times up and learning a few new things.

When she’s outside she enjoys playing and mingling with her grey friends. Her inmate trainer says that Stormi is doing greyt and is a pleasure to be around

Adorable Puppy Eyes

Stormi has made significant progress this week.  She was able to run and play in the big yard this week and it really pepped up her demeanor.  Her inmate trainer says that she had been fairly reserved, but she’s starting to wag her tail more and has bounce in her step these days.

As far as training goes she’s still a little hesitant to perform “sit.”  She’ll give it a shot for a treat, but has no interest in doing it without a yummy reward.  After she masters “sit” they’ll start working on the “down” command.  They started working on “jump” this week and she seems to be catching on with ease.

Her inmate trainer says to be prepared for the adorable puppy eyes that will melt glaciers and cause humans to give into dishing out more treats.

Settling In

Stormi’s previous week has been very progressive.  As she adjusts to her new environment she’s been a little unsure of being around large groups of people or sudden loud noises she’d rather hide than deal with all that.   Not to worry, her inmate trainer came up with a plan to build her confidence.  They’ve been hand feeding her and treating her to reinforce how positive the whole experience is.  So far she seems to like this new pace and they were able to work through the week and teach her many new things.  She’s well on track and consistently showing improvement.

Her inmate trainer says he is looking forward to watching Stormi grow and learn in the days to come.

Darling Stormi

This session, one lucky trainer gets to prepare a beautiful greyhound named Stormi for her forever family!

She has a beautiful black and white coat. She has white spots on her back as well as a white line between her eyes, leading right to her nose. Her chest and hiney are predominantly white, leading into her white ticked legs - it looks like she is wearing knee-socks! She is really quite the doll, and she definitely knows it. She handled her intake fairly well and got a bath, an ear-cleaning and a light grooming. She ate her first meal without any problems and she continues to show her lack of reservations about eating at each feeding time.

Over the past few days, Stormi has begun to grasp the work = reward system of learning here, and is already showing signs of being very trainable. She is still getting the hang of walking on a leash but is coming along so nicely for her first week. We’ll keep you posted on sweet Miss Stormi as the session progresses!
