Cha-Cha Slide into a Sit

Well, it's swap week here at Second Chance Academy of Excellent Hounds! Swap week is when the training teams swap hounds for the week, and test for separation anxiety and to see how they respond to taking commands from a new person.

This swap week, Jiggy and her swap week trainer had a BLAST! She is super sweet but a little bit shy, and her trainer was so happy to spend the week with this sweetie. She was kind of shy on the first day but opened up very quickly, performing all of the basic commands for her new human! She did perfectly on her first try, too!

Her two favorite commands are sit and heel. She loves them so much that she combines them! She'll run in for the heel and then slide into a perfect sit - it is so cute! Jiggy won her trainer over immediately with her sweet personality, cute face and adorable antics. There are no complaints here! Jiggy is an awesome greyhound and is going to rock your world!

Oh My Gosh! Toys!

Another week has passed and Jiggy is closer to graduating and finding her way home.  Her inmate trainer says that this past week has been very intriguing as Jiggy has really opened up!  While in the training room she started playing with toys she got so excited she started doing circles and throwing the toy in air catching it and tossing it again.  He said it was a great sight to see!

Swap week is coming up.  It’s a time where the dogs are exchanged with other training teams to work commands from new people and time away from their primary trainers.  Jiggy’s inmate trainer said this should really be a separation anxiety test for the humans!  He says it’s hard to watch your pup hanging out with a new team and not really missing you!

The Incredible Miss Jiggy

Dear Adoptive Parents,

Going into week seven with so many high expectations and ending the prior week with joy, over Jiggy's quality performance of the Incredible Miss Jiggy Show! It has to be seen to be believed. This week was focused on reinforcing everything she has worked on in the past six weeks and she has exceeded expectations.

Jiggy is one of the sweetest greyhounds her trainer has ever worked with. She has the most beautiful golden brown eyes he's ever seen, and every time she looks at him, he can see the purity of her soft, sweet doggy soul. Her fur is so silky and smooth, you could just sit there and pet her for hours on end and not know where the time went! And she loves to be petted and loved on, so go wild. You are going to have such a good time loving on Miss Jiggy!

A Perfect Lady

Dearest Adoptive Parents,

Another splendid week has come and gone, and Jiggy is this much closer to bounding into your arms! Her training has been going so well. She is one of the smartest and most observant greyhounds that her trainer has ever gotten to love. Her secondary trainer works with her daily during feeding times and bathroom breaks and he's gotta say, she is one well-mannered gal! She has the personality of a sweet, humble child.

Although her spirit is overall peaceful, she's named Jiggy for a reason - she does have SOME energy! But she can turn it on and off. When she turns on high energy, she'll start bouncing around and back and forth, all excited, showing you that she wants to play. She loves it when her trainers take a Kong toy, fill it with kibble, and then give it to her so she can use her muzzle to push it to and fro, dispensing the kibble a little bit at a time. For such a petite little thing, she sure has an appetite!

She and her trainer are having so much fun and you will, too! So until next week... woof ya later!

Smart AND cute

We are five weeks into Jiggy's training session and five weeks away from you getting the most adorable and loving greyhound in the world!  It's been a very productive week with Jiggy.  She has found her comfort zone this week and she has started showing her playful side. It's always fun to see these greyhounds open up, relax and enjoy their retirement.

Every Thursday the trainers do "show and tell".  This is where each trainer takes his greyhound through the 13 basic commands they are learning and get graded on them (0-10).  Guess what?  Little Miss Jiggy scored all 10's this week!!  She's adorable and smart.  Now that she knows all her basic commands her trainer is going to start on a few extra commands.  I wonder what they will be...Check back next week to find out.

Hands Down, The Most Adorable Greyhound

It's been a very exciting and productive week with Little Miss Jiggy.  She's become more comfortable with her environment and has taken quite an interest in learning.  She knows all of the basic commands, so it won't be long before her trainer will be teaching her some extra ones.

Her trainer recently found out she has been adopted.  Nothing makes the trainers more happy than finding out their greyhound is going to their forever home.  He said Jiggy is so smart, very loving and hands down the most adorable little thing he has ever seen.  You couldn't have picked a better greyhound!    You are just going to love her!!!   Until next week...

Practice Makes Permanent

Another week has gone by, and we are one step closer to the finish line. Just one of the many things we love about greyhounds is their wide variety of personality types and quirks, color schemes, and sizes. But our favorite is their ability to learn. Much like ourselves, some learn faster than others, and that's why Jiggy's trainer says that the most important thing you can remember during training is that slow and steady wins the race. Practice doesn't have to make perfect - the goal is permanence rather than perfection. Anyone can learn something quickly - but learning it well is another story.

Jiggy has been working on sit, heel and stay this week. And since Jiggy loves being right by her trainer's side, the stay command has proved to be quite the challenge. But that's all right, because if everything comes easy, where's the fun in that?!

Jiggy's trainer says she reminds him so much of himself - she's not a fan of big crowds, and she loves her peace and quiet, which explains why her new favorite spot is in the training room. It's quiet, and usually a good place to be alone. After finishing a training session, Jiggy likes to hang out on her bed and get a good ole ear and neck rub. All in all, Jiggy is hands down the most ADORABLE and lovable greyhound that her trainer has had the privilege to teach.

Inquisitive Girl

Jiggy is a loving girl whose easy going ways are sure to capture the hearts of her new family members. As you can see there’s no doubt that she’s adorable.  She loves to hang out in her kennel and will relax there even with the door open.

When released in the big yard to run Jiggy prances around, then finds a good spot to lie down and watch the activity.  She’s doing great with training and has been working on bed, sit, and leash walking. She is a very curious girl and can get a little distracted so her inmate trainer keeps their training session short and fun.

Get Jiggy with it!

Week one of a new session has begun, and Jiggy's trainer is so excited about his new companion! When he saw Jiggy, it was love at first sight. She's 55 pounds soaking wet, and she has a dark red coat that fades to light and then dark again. It's so silky smooth and soft! Jiggy is hands down the most adorable dog he has ever seen. She is so laid-back and easy-going that giving her a bath, checking for ticks/fleas, cleaning her ears and clipping her nails were a breeze. So far, Jiggy and her trainer have been taking it easy and just getting to know each other. She's really fond of her kennel so she's been doing a lot of walking around and letting her get used to all the new sounds, smells and sights. The only thing she seems to love as much as being in her kennel is being on the dog beds.

Her trainer says that his favorite thing about her so far is how her little ears perk straight up when she is interested in something. Funny thing is, this happens EVERY time she sees the TV! She will just stand there with her little ears sticking straight up and watch it. It's so dang cute! All right, until next week, Team Jiggy is checking out!
