Bundle Of Joy

Amber has come a long way since she first arrived at the prison.  She went from being a quiet and unsure Greyhound to a loving, playful, bundle of joy.  Amber was very easy to train.  She learned her commands in a very short period.  She's a smart girl and her trainer said she may just be the perfect pet.  She doesn't have too much energy, but loves to run and play outside with the other Greyhounds and also with her trainer.  Amber loves chew toys, like bones and Kong toys.  She will chew on them to her heart's content.

Amber was recently tested by the SCG volunteers, and her trainer is very proud to say that little Ms. Amber did great!  She knows all of her commands and also a list of extras.  He knows that she will make her new family at her forever home just as happy as she made him.  He is going to miss Amber, but is happy to know she is going to a loving home that will give her all the love and attention she deserves.

Run Amber Run

Amber adjusted well during swap week with the other team of inmate trainers.  Amber did great with all of her commands.  She did not hesitate on any of them.  She knows "hurry", "let's go", "kennel", "release", "wait", "heel", "here", "sit", "down", "stay", "bed", and "jump" like she has been doing them all her life.  She's a smart girl and cute to boot!

Amber enjoys walking around the dorm and laying on a bed in the day room.  Her favorite thing to do is run on the big yard.  Once she's out there, she's off and running!!

Amber's alternate (swap) trainer enjoyed this past week with her.  She is a smart greyhound and he is glad he got to work with her.  She will make some family very happy.

To Lick Or Shake?

Amber has opened up even more this week!  She now loves to play with toys!  Her play sessions are short, but she plays hard before it’s time to nap.  She loves the Jolly Ball and basketballs, but she’s learning that she can chase after squeaky toys!

She’s doing really well with the “drop it” and “give it” command during toy playtime.   Her inmate trainer has been working to teach her the shake command.  So far she’s mastered the art of licking the hand her inmate trainer is hiding the treat in.  He plans to work with her a little more on this command to see if he can get an actual paw shake and not a mouth shake!

Playful And Loving Life

Amber has really blossomed this week!  She is playing with toys more and more and is becoming all around more playful.  She always loves to run and play in the big yard with the other greyhounds.   She had fun on the small yard too.  Her inmate trainer and another trainer were playing "keep away" with Amber.  She loves chasing the ball, and her trainer said she is like the energizer bunny.  She keeps going and going and going...

During indoor play, her trainer will take her to the training/play room.  Amber loves to chase her trainer around the room.  He will toss some toys around for her to play with.  She doesn't really have a favorite toy, but loves chew toys and bones.  She likes a "Kong" filled with treats.

Amber is catching on to the extra commands: "drop it" and "give".  Yesterday was testing on the basic commands and Amber did great!  No surprise there with this smart girl.  She did her commands for her primary trainer and for other people without hesitation.

Whoever is lucky enough to adopt this greyt girl will not be disappointed.  She will make her family in her forever home very happy!  Look no further Amber is your girl!!

Aims To Please

Amber is such a joy to train.  Her inmate trainer says she knows her commands and will have no problems passing her test to graduate.  She does great with the "stay" and "release" command when in her kennel.  She will stay in there until released.  She likes her kennel for quiet time, and is happy to see her trainer when he returns after being gone for awhile.  This week her inmate trainers added a couple of extra commands:  "paws up" and "bow."  She's catching on to both quite quickly.

She loves the big yard and playing with the other greyhounds.  She now loves toys, but the squeaky toys are her favorite.  She will "give" you her toy without hesitation. Amber is such a good girl!

Amber is a morning person, and loves what goes along with it; teeth brushing, grooming, and breakfast!  Maybe not in that specific order.  I think food ranks pretty high with this gorgeous greyhound.

Amber is a great leash walker and stays close to your side.  Her inmate trainer says it's been a joy working with Amber.  She does whatever you ask of her.  She aims to please.

Yes To Toys

Amber has been polishing up on her basic commands this week and has them all mastered.  Her inmate trainer is now working on "stay" duration and her "heel" position.  She is also learning to share her bed with the other greyhounds, and is doing so much better.  She is picky about who she becomes friends with, but she just loves Jada, another greyhound in the program.  You will see them together outside at playtime.

Amber started showing a little interest in toys.  She will perk up and play for a very short time.  Her trainer hopes her interest grows, so he can introduce a couple extra commands like "give it" and "drop it".

Amber is such a sweetheart and her trainer cannot believe the training session with her is half over.  He knows he is going to miss her dearly when it's time for her to leave.

A Brilliant Jewel

Amber is progressing nicely with her commands.  She loves to sit anytime her inmate trainer is preparing her food or putting treats in the treat bag.  He says that she’ll look at him with those pretty little eyes requesting food payment for her brilliance.  If he ignores her she will go into the down position and stare at him as if asking if he’s not understanding the request for a treat.

Amber still hasn’t shown much interest in toys yet.  She likes the big Jolly Ball or a basketball. She did play with a stuffed bird for a few minutes.  He says that in the big yard she runs up to other dogs with her tail wagging with happiness.  Once inside she’s on the lookout for a bed to lie down and rest in.  Her inmate trainer says that Amber is quite the jewel and is sure to fit right in with her forever family.

Awesome Amber!

This week has been a great week for little Amber.  She is making progress learning her basic commands and she is coming out of her shell more and more every day.  She is having a little trouble with the "jump" command.  She will walk up to the platform that is used and Amber will look at it and then look back at her trainer.  She's got that look like "you want me to do what?"   She has jumped a few times, so her trainer knows she can do it.  He's certain she will have it down in another week.

Amber still shows "zero" interest in toys, but does show some interest in the jolly ball and basketball.  The other day she was out on the yard with her trainer just hanging out for about 30 minutes.  Then all of a sudden, she took off after the basketball just sitting there in the grass.

On another note for the week, Amber and her trainer worked on stair training.  He is proud to report that she had not trouble with the stairs.  She went up and down them on the first try.

Amber is such a smart and loving greyhound and her trainer is very happy he was assigned to her.  Keep checking back to see her progress!

Play With Me

This week has been a blast with Ms. Amber, her trainer said.  She is such a sweet, loving and smart greyhound.  Her inmate trainer is proud of her.  She is already "sitting" and "downing" on command.  She has also improved greatly with leash walking.

During testing this week, she did all of her commands very well.  That's pretty good for only week two.  She still needs improvement on all of them before graduation. She's not ready for that yet.

Amber is not a fan of sharing her bed, so her inmate trainer is having her lay on a bed with another greyhound.  She has shown improvement.  As far as toys goes, she hasn't showed any interest in them yet.

She likes to run on the big yard and will run up to other trainers walking their dogs. She will run around them trying to get them to play with her.  It is quite comical to watch.

Amber got to visit with a little black lab mix puppy.  At first she didn't know what he was, but when he started barking she decided she didn't want to get to know him and walked away.

Amber is a great dog and her inmate trainer is looking forward to working with and getting to know this sweet girl.  Check back next week to see what Amber has been up to.

Tail That Never Stops Wagging

This is the start of another 10 week session with a beautiful little red girl who is now called Amber.  Her inmate trainer is very excited to start training with this sweet little lady with a cute face and a tail that never stops wagging.  Her trainer has mainly been working on leash walking and her name.  Later in the week, they will start on "here", "sit" and "heel".

So far Amber has been very friendly towards the other dogs.  She had a playdate with two other greyhounds, Mighty Esther and KJO Sweetheart.  Amber and KJO Sweetheart (Becca) are sisters. They not only look alike, but also act alike.  They are like two peas in a pod.

Amber's inmate trainer is very much looking forward to this training session and getting to know this great little greyhound called Amber.
