Bomb-Proof

Less than a month in my foster home and I have been through it all! Big dogs, small dogs, condo living, elevators, stairs, dog parks, outdoor restaurants, new people, inside the crate, outside the crate, boarding without my human, and now THUNDERSTORMS! Most dogs get a little nervous with the loud claps of thunder and blinding flashes of lightning, but not I! This guy will stand in the pouring rain, in the middle of the thunderstorm, wagging his tail and going about his business as usual.

I'm telling you, guys, I'm a keeper!! How can you resist this adorable, yet wet, face?!

Speed Master

Week 3 has been perfect like the others! I mean, honestly, are you surprised? My foster mom took me to, not one, but TWO dog parks! I loved it. I wasn't too interested in the other dogs, but if they came up to me to play, I would join in on the fun. I enjoyed trotting around and checking everything out. I would sometimes sprint around too if my foster mom threw the tennis ball for the other grey of the house.  It was so much fun!

I spent the weekend with my foster mom at her parent's house. They have a husky mix and a pit-bull mix and I got along perfectly with both. I really liked the fenced in yard they had, too.  There's not too much to update you all on! I'm a great hound just waiting for my forever home!! :)

Young at Heart

Week 2 with my foster mama is going just as well as the first. I'm allowed to sleep outside of my crate now at night, and guess where I spend the ENTIRE night? On the Slumberball of course! I hope my future family has one of these, because I am obsessed. My foster mom has hardly gotten a picture of me OFF of the Slumberball because it's my favorite place to be!

I spent the weekend at a boarding facility with the other grey of the household and the owner absolutely adored me. She assumed I was a puppy because of all my energy outside. I did a lot of zoomies and I will push my way through a pack of hounds to be pet. I do love my humans! No need to worry about my energy levels, though. I am the perfect house guest and am very calm indoors. My tail does wag a lot, so watch out for full cups of water on your coffee table! Sometimes I can't control my happiness and my tail just goes wild when I see my favorite people.

My foster mom says that I'm just as easy to take care of as her other hound. I listen to everything she tells me to do, I wait patiently for food and treats, I know the schedule down pat, and I do exceedingly well on the leash and throughout the condo hallways/elevators. I love other dogs almost as much as I love new people. No matter what your situation is, I will adapt happily and willingly!

A New Adventure!

Well hello there! Dalton here again. Bet you thought you wouldn't see a perfect dog such as myself back up on the Adoptable page! My former family's living situation changed, and through no fault of my own, I ended up back with SCG. That's OK though, because now you all get another chance to add me to your home!

I've been with my foster mom for about 4 days now and she thinks I am a gem. She tells me I smile all the time, and what can I say?! I've got no worries in the world. I like stealing my temporary sister's slumberball (my favorite place to hang out) when she isn't looking and I loooove squeaky tennis balls. Once I start squeaking them, the other grey in the house will join in on the fun and it's like a symphony of squeaks.

I've adjusted to my new environment and schedule seamlessly. I'm a very happy, quiet dog with superb house manners. I'm also great on the leash. My fur is super soft, I have the sweetest eyes, and the cutest wet nose! I only have a very tiny scar over my left eye (Like Scar from the Lion King!!), but the rest of my racing figure has been unharmed. It helps when you're always winning and the other dogs can't catch up to you :)

Graduating To A New Life

Dalton was the most popular dog of the day for a new training group this week.  He achieved every goal that was set in front of him and had everyone smiling.  His inmate trainer says that Dalton is laid back guy who also enjoys playing and running.  His inmate trainer says that you just can’t help but smile when you look at sweet Dalton.  He is well-mannered and a real pleasure to work with.  Dalton’s trainer says that he’s learned so much during his time with Dalton and he just knows that Dalton is going to make his new family very happy.

Swap Week? No Problem!

Dalton spent time with an alternate inmate trainer for swap week this week!  The inmates exchange dogs to allow the dogs a chance to receive commands from new people and to spend some time away from their primary trainers.

Dalton’s alternate inmate trainer says that Dalton is very laid back, but his eyes lit up when his alternate trainer pulled out a toy.  Dalton loves to play and will play very gently.  He calms down easily when play time is over.  He knows all of his basic commands really well and responds on the first request!  He loves to lie in his bed and watch TV.  His alternate trainer says that now that Dalton is back with his primary inmate trainer he finds himself missing Dalton very much!  He know that Dalton is going to make is new forever family very happy!

Happy-Go-Lucky

Dalton continues to emerge from his shell!  When he wants to play and his inmate trainer is laying down Dalton will go over and tell him to get up.  Dalton continues to improve on his commands every day and his happy-go-lucky attitude makes every day wonderful.  He loves anyone that will show him attention and is starting to show interest in toys!

The inmates are preparing for swap week next week.  This is the week where they exchange dogs to work on commands.  He says that Dalton still needs a little more work with “heel” and thinks that having a different training team for a week is going to be a great experience for Dalton!

Retirement Should Be Taken Seriously

Training is going great for Dalton!  He knows all of his commands really well with verbal only cues and many with hand signal only cues.  His inmate trainer says that Dalton is a sweet dog who wins everyone over with his wonderful personality.  He loves spending time chewing his “wish bone” Nylon Bone.  He loves attention from humans and seems to be taking retirement pretty seriously.

Training Is Progressing

Dalton here to report in on training progress.  As expected, I’m doing great with everything.  The “stay” is a bit of a hassle but I follow through for my inmate trainer.  I mean really, why do I want to stay when there’s stuff to do like napping or playing.

I don’t mind hanging out with other dogs on my bed.  I enjoy attention from humans and I love food.  I’m still not real sure about these toy things.  They just kinda lie there and do nothing. What fun is that?  I’m proud to say that I know my commands with verbal cues and many with hand signal cues.   Wonder what my trainer has planned next?

Learning All About Staying

Another week has come and gone; how does time move so quickly?  Dalton’s training is coming right along.  They had Show and Tell Friday where the dogs perform in front of the other trainers to show what they know.  Dalton did great with everything except “stay.”  His inmate trainer says that helps him to know what areas to work more with Dalton on.  He plans to work a little more with “stay” this week and knows that Dalton will have it figured out soon.

Dalton’s inmate trainer is very proud of the progress Dalton has made.  He says that Dalton gets along well with the other dogs as well as other inmates and staff.

Rollin' the Ball

Already week four and everything is going well.  Dalton is improving more each day and knows all of his commands with verbal cues and many with hand signal cues.  This week they have been working on: sit, stay, wait, bed, and down.  They also practiced the stairs and Dalton did really well.

He has discovered a favorite toy, a red treat ball.  The ball has a hole in it that treats fall out of as he rolls it around.

Dalton’s inmate trainer says that Dalton captures the hearts of everyone he meets.  He’s an easygoing laid-back guy who loves attention.

Laid Back and Friendly

This has been a fun week for Dalton and his inmate trainer!  They worked on:  sit, down, and bed. As with most Greyhounds “sit” is quite the challenge and Dalton is working to master this command like a pro.  All those muscles make it a little more difficult to sit for Greyhounds. Next week his inmate trainer plans to work on:  stay, wait, and here.

Dalton has a laid back attitude with other inmates and dogs.  He is always up for a good rub and treat.  He’s friendly with everyone and loves attention.  His inmate trainer is looking forward to watching Dalton’s progress in the days to come!

Treats and Training

Well here we are week two already.  Dalton is doing really well he loves treats so that always helps with training.  His inmate trainer has been working to teach him: bed, down, hurry, let’s go, release, heel, kennel, wait, and sit.

Dalton’s inmate trainer says that he was able to enjoy watching Dalton run with the other dogs in the big yard this week.  He got along great with the other dogs and had a blast playing.

Dalton is a favorite at the prison and his inmate trainer says that it’s easy to see why with his wonderful personality.

New Beginnings

Dalton's inmate trainer states, "I can proudly say that I got one beautiful male Greyhound.  He has a good spirit and a good attitude.  He has been well taken care of during his race days and well exercised."

He is a beautiful red boy with a smooth coat and very few race scars.  His inmate trainer says he is very smart.  They've begun commands training working first on "wait", "heel", and the name game (getting him used to his name).

Next week they plan to continue working on those commands plus they will add "sit", "down", and "stay".  They have a full week ahead of them, that is for sure.  His inmate trainer is looking forward to it and the many weeks ahead with this sweet red boy!
