Favorite Hound

The final week.... It happened so fast.  His trainer said he will miss Oscar when he goes to his forever home.  Oscar did great on the final testing and is ready to meet his forever family.

Oscar's trainer said he has been a pleasure to train and he wishes he could keep him forever!  Oscar has been a favorite hound among the entire dorm.  Always so friendly and curious.  He has never met a stranger and is always ready to make a new friend.  He is a really greyt dog with a wonderful personality.  He is going to be an awesome pet for whomever is lucky enough to adopt him.  Take care sweet Oscar...  You will be missed.

Charming Chippy - AKA Oscar

Oscar did really well for swap week.  During this week the inmates swap dogs to work on commands and to see how the dogs do away from their assigned inmate trainer.

His alternate inmate trainer says that having Oscar around was delightful.  Oscar does really well with all of his commands. He’s not sure about the whole jumping idea, but with a little more work and confidence building he’ll figure it out. He enjoys playing with toys and relaxing into retirement

Good Vibes

Oscar's trainer can't really express adequately how much he enjoys training this sweet adorable guy. He is such a great dog to be around; his energy is contagious. His trainer particularly loves the way Oscar is always standing and ready to greet him at meal times or on potty breaks.

He's also very relaxed, and relaxed during the appropriate times. He is killing it with his training sessions, flowing through it with ease. He is a really smart dog and always willing to please. Oscar is gonna steal your heart!!!

Goofy Boy!

Oscar sure has a funny personality!  At feeding time he becomes especially goofy, bouncing up and down and bowing over and over again.  He's like, come on man!  I'm starving over here and I'm trying to get your attention.  He is so much fun to be around and play with.  Oscar is a super silly boy that will have you laughing until it hurts!  And that's no joke.

Oscar prefers chewing on "Nyla bones" rather than any other toy.  His trainer considers this a good thing, as your favorite slippers would be safe with this boy.  Oscar still runs through his daily training routines to keep all of his commands fresh in his mind.  Oscar aims to please and easily hits his mark every time.

Oscar the Explorer

What a GOOD week for Oscar. He continues to be an absolute delight to care for. Always friendly, loving and curious. Oscar loves food and treats and is VERY motivated to train. He is bothered by very little and adapts super quickly to any changes that are made in his routine.

Oscar really enjoys his time outside, treating each excursion into the great outdoors as its own special adventure. Everything must be explored! Bug chasing has become a favorite activity as the weather has warmed up.  Given the chance, there is no stone that will be left unturned by his unquenchable, insatiable curiosity.

Life Of The Party

Oscar can easily be described as the life of the party.  He is so fun to be around and he loves the company of his humans. Some additional things that Oscar likes are:  treats, toys, treats, Nyla-bones for chewing on.  Oh and treats!!!  Paired with this general sense of curiosity, Oscar is often found searching every square inch of the training room in search of that one stray kibble that got away.  He always finds it, by the way.

Oscar is also a very attentive boy.  His trainer will often walk him around the dorm without the use of a leash, where a simple "let's go" keeps him right by his trainer's side.  "Easy" keeps Oscar from forging ahead.

While Oscar is still a little unsure about the "jump" command, he has excelled with every other one.  Lucky for Oscar, this gives him more playtime after his training session.  All in all, Oscar is having a greyt time at the SCG academy for higher learning.  Five more weeks to go until you have the pleasure of meeting the newest member of your family.  Oscar can hardly wait!  Can you?

Because I’m Happy…

Oscar seems to be comfortable and completely adapted to his home away from home.  He is a very happy dog.  His trainer doesn't think he has met a person or treat he doesn't like.  No matter what his trainer has planned for him that day, Oscar is always enthusiastic and full of energy.  Ready to tackle whatever is thrown his way.  He's a happy-go-lucky hound.  I wish we were all like that.

Oscar was introduced to "down" and he has taken to it very quickly.  His leash walking continues to improve each day, and he is now the master of "sit".  His trainers have emphasized "heel" and Oscar is slowly warming to the command.  They are looking forward to the week's ahead with Oscar.  He is a very motivated greyhound, so the sky's the limit.

Your companion has a first name, it's O-S-C-A-R!

If you are looking for a dog to brighten up your day, Oscar is the top candidate for the task. Oscar is the ONE! His trainer says he loves getting to have the absolute pleasure of waking up with him every day. He has become more content in his kennel, a huge improvement from day one. When his trainer opens the door to let him out, he is very eager to see what comes next. He has progressed very well in his training and has even mastered the "sit" command. This is always a milestone when training a greyhound - look at those long legs!

Oscar is such a friendly boy who will happily travel with you at your side anywhere you let him. He is the type to make friends rapidly with anyone he meets - he certainly does so here! Now how about your neighborhood? :)

Oscar... Pro Roacher

It'a only week two and Oscar acts as though he's been here his whole life.  He is a playful boy that loves to chase a toy or ball, but hasn't quite figured out the concept of bringing it back for another throw.

Oscar's trainers have introduced him to "sit" this week.  He is highly treat motivated, so training this fella should be fairly easy.  A little treat goes a long ways with Oscar.

Oscar is fairly laid back in his off time.  It's not uncommon to see him roaching in his kennel.  He also loves attention from anyone.  His trainer thinks he loves his face rubbed almost as much as his trainer loves petting him!  It's been an awesome two weeks with Oscar.  Check back next week...

Laid-back Hunk

If Oscar's first week at Second Chance has been anything but perfectly pleasant, he certainly hasn't shown it. So far every new experience has been taken in stride - he acts like it's just another day at the park. From bathing to nail clipping to being in large crowds of people, nothing fazes this absolute hunk. Oscar has even begun to take to several new commands, proper leash etiquette, wait, and even here. This first week he has shown tremendous promise and that he will sail through the program with ease. And he'll certainly make some forever friends along the way before he gets to his forever home!
