Katy is Effervescent

Foster Katy IMG_20200611_110107.jpg

Katy is one of those kinds of hounds that nothing seems to phase her. She wakes up happy and goes to bed at night happy. She loves attention, is eager to please, and is oh-so very adorable. She is easily excitable and wants to share her joy with everyone, hoping it’s contagious. This girl has springs in her legs! She is doing an excellent job with her commands and responds eagerly and quickly if treats are involved. She makes eye contact a lot & seeks a connection to her people. She’s a little slow on the “here” command if she’s busy doing other things but we’re working on that. She likes to get up close and then surprise you with a quick “kiss” then she grins at you like it was greatest gift she’s ever given anyone. She is also quite chatty, depending on what she wants. She has yet to meet a stranger and everyone comments on how elegant and regal she looks but I see a bubbly personality that supersedes her good looks. One of Mirriam-Webster’s definitions of effervescent is “vivacious and enthusiastic” which certainly fits Miss Katy-Bell to a T.

Love-Bug Galore

Foster Katy IMG_20200612_164600.jpg

Katy is in foster care and first impressions is that she is an absolute love-bug. She is affectionate without being too pushy and well behaved. She is a pro at being in a home and has been adaptable to our schedule. She is curious to explore the nooks and crannies of her foster home including going up & down stairs like a pro. She settled in quickly, has been eating well, and goes into her kennel beautifully. She has kept her stylish good looks and is still exuberant and energetic when happy or excited but otherwise she is calm and outgoing, although I will admit that she has more energy than the rest of us slugs in the home. First night in the foster home started with a big thunderstorm that she didn’t react to at all. She’s so stinking cute that her foster mom has started calling her Katy-Bell; she doesn’t seem to mind, just responds by wagging her tail and gazing up with big doe eyes.

Katie Hikes

Katie went on a hike Sunday with her foster family. Not just any hike, mind you, but a 5 mile hike. She appeared to have had a very good time and was barely tired from the activity.

If you’re looking for a jogging partner or maybe have an interest in lure coursing or agility, Katie would likely excel at any of those activities. She would do best in a home with a fenced in backyard. A Greyhound brother or sister would be icing on the cake for Katie!

Everybunny needs somebunny to love..................

It's so true! I'm still looking for my "forever family". I'm hoping the Easter Bunny pulls my new family out of his basket along with some jelly beans. Did I mention I love jelly beans along with just about everything else? Treats are a girls best friend! I'm feeling so much more confident now that I have been living with a family since graduating from prison 10 weeks ago. I potty outside where I am suppose to and I now run to the door to let everyone know I need to "hurry". I'm a petite little girl with a big capacity for love. Please adopt me before I have to wear another embarrassing hat, I'm scared sparklers may be next! Call me, I'm waiting!

Be My Valentine

Katie Bell.jpg

I'm the cutest little foster girl you have ever seen! No joke, I will melt your heart. My foster family says that I'm a smart little nut with a big personality. I am very brave as I learn all the subtleties of living in a home. I may bump my nose but I bounce right back and come in for more. When I get a little tooooooo full of myself, I'm told to settle down and I do. I'm a good girl!  I walk well on a leash and enjoy being out and about in the neighborhood. I live with two other greyhounds and I manage them very well. Lucky for me they mostly ignore me. Once in awhile they get tired of me and they let me know. I just go lie down in my bed until they forget. I do love playing with toys, I've never met one I didn't like. I eat well and am on a potty schedule so I don't have accidents. My family says I'm doing very good with that as well. I would enjoy a family with children ( a little older) as I can get excited and bump into things. So, with Valentine's Day fast approaching, won't you be my Valentine family? I'm ready for you!

Ready to Love Ya

Our team has had such a great time with Katie. Now we have reached the end of her training and it has been terrific. She came in all shy and very watchful, and now she's outgoing and very trusting. She never had any trouble getting used to this place. So we know she will have no trouble when she gets to her forever home. Her training went really well.  She is a very loving and a very loyal dog. She has done so much for her team and her trainers are very excited that she is going to get her forever family soon! Will it be you?

Little Miss Sunshine

Katie was an absolute pleasure to have for swap week. She is hands down one of the sweetest and most precious dogs under the trainers' care. Katie performs all of her commands with precision, zeal, and expediency that is shocking and borders on the level of pre-cognition. When first walking Katie, she tends to pull slightly on the leash, but one quick check and she remembers her manners.

One of her swap week trainer's favorite commands to use to spoil her with extra treats is the "speak" command. She has an adorable bark/roo that is complemented even more by the fact that she ONLY does it on command! Her swap week trainer said that he couldn't have asked for a better swap week pup. Her energy brightens up any room she walks into. She's going to make a wonderful addition to her adoptive family, who will no doubt be as happy and impressed with her as her training teams have been.

This Girl's Got It Going On!

Woooo Hoooo Katie here!  So, first thing I think you should know about me… I’m cute.  Second, I know all of my commands.  So please come with treats ready.  Now, when I first arrived here and my inmate trainer would ask me to do something I’d admittedly have to think about it for a bit.  You know, run through everything I knew to make sure I had the right human word associated with the correct response.  Now that I’ve got those associations all worked out there ain’t no hesitation in this game.  Go ahead it’s okay… say it with me… This girl’s got it going on!

So I’m not really sure what to expect when I come home forever… well wait I do I expect treats.   My inmate trainer says he bets I’ll have toys and a soft bed and lots of love and attention.  It almost sounds too good to be true, but I gotta admit, I got some hope going on.  I’m going to come to you offering super soft fur to pet on, some amazing tricks I’ve learned here, a sweet disposition, and so much more!

Right on Track

Katie and her team of trainers have had a great week. She is very capable of performing all of her commands and she is happy to do them. Katie is at her race weight, which is the target weight, and she looks exceptional. Her trainer can't wait for her to get to her forever home because he knows that she is going to make them so happy. They have 3 more weeks together and they're going to work extra hard to teach Katie anything extra they can. She is such a fast learner. Tune in next week to see what she has learned.

Pick Me! Pick Me!

This week Katie is working hard on her "heel" and "leave it" commands and is doing well with them.  All of her other basic commands she has down pat, but her trainers are keeping them fresh in her mind, so they work on them every day.   She can even "speak" on command".  Katie is a smart girl and a fast learner.

Katie loves to be brushed and will roll over to show her belly for belly rubs.  She will let you pet her belly until your arm falls off.  LOL She can't get enough.  She's a super sweet and loving girl that is waiting for a family to call her own.

Katie is already making her New Year's resolution...  Eat more treats, get more belly rubs and find her forever family.  Make her new year's resolution come true and adopt Katie!

Baby It's Cold Outside

It was pretty cold at the prison last week and Katie’s inmate trainer discovered that Ms. Katie doesn’t like the cold!  He said she was so funny when they would go out for potty breaks!  She’d be all serious moving around on a mission as if pumping herself up to go out and get it done!  Once out side she’d march right out and take care of business then return as if to say I’m done now let’s return to the heated indoors.

Usually Ms. Katie likes to roam around on her own, but lately she’s been running a little more with the other dogs in the yard.  She likes to run really fast in little circles!

Her inmate trainer says that Katie is very treat motivated and loves squeaky toys.  She does really well returning the toy when asked and walking on a leash.  He says that when it’s time to brush her teeth she licks so much he winds up brushing her tongue more than her teeth!

Happiness is.....Katie!

Katie is a very smart girl!  She has most of her commands down!  She knows sit, down, stay, wait, here, let’s go, kennel, release, bed, jump, heel, hurry and speak!  Now, let’s just explain the speak… She happily speaks when her inmate trainer has the food bowl in hand, but is a little reluctant to speak when he’s empty handed!  She likes to negotiate the terms a bit!  She loves to play!  She’ll gleefully search for the squeaky part of the toy and chew with great happiness over the find! She’s a gentle little lady with good manners who doesn’t mind giving the toy to her trainer when he requests it.

Happiness is… Katie!  She loves to see everyone and can be a little exuberant in her greeting.  She’s so happy that she’ll jump up to say hello.  Her inmate trainer is working to correct the jumping and knows that she’ll have it figured out soon.   Her inmate trainer is happy to say that he’s having a great time with Katie and is proud of the progress she’s made!

A Friend to All

This week Katie and her trainer have been learning so much from each other. She is so much faster at learning and it seems she knows the command before he even starts to give it. She will give him those looks like, come on, is that all you got? She is such a beautiful smart and healthy dog. He is so lucky to be able to train her and she has most of her commands down already. And this is just the beginning of the term! She is going to make her family so proud when she gets home. He is so proud of her and she really is something special. Everyone here just loves her and she doesn't have a shy bone in her body. Her trainer has no doubt that she can learn whatever is taught to her. He is very excited for her. So please tune in next week as the excitement continues!

Curious Cutie

Well, Miss Katie is beginning to come out of her shell! She is adjusting to her new environment and is not as easy to spook when she hears strange noises. She is now curious instead and she really loves to play with squeaky toys. She will sit or do a down to get them.

She is still very active on the big yard and loves to run, and she will come to her trainer when he calls her. She likes to play peek-a-boo around the outside latrine which is about 10 feet long. Her trainer will chase her from one side to the other. He says peekaboo, and she runs to the other end where he is already there and it goes back and forth until they're tired. She is so sweet! She is prone to give hugs and crawl up on your lap when you are sitting! But this behavior is not recommended for trainers to encourage, so her trainer is changing her on that point. She just wants to be so lovey-dovey.

As far as her commands go, she will sit, down, sort of stay, sort of wait, bed, kennel, and hurry. And also she does give very well. This is very encouraging considering it is only week 2. Tune in next week to see how Katie progresses!

Sweet, Petite Girl

Katie is a very sweet, little Greyhound. She loves to run on the big yard and her trainer was surprised at how well she performed her recall on the very first day she ran. Awesome job Katie! They are working on a few commands this week:  "here", "hurry", "kennel", "bed" and "wait".

Katie got to celebrate her third birthday on intake day, November 16th!  Happy birthday Katie!! Check back next week to see how Katie is doing during the first week of retirement.
