Endless Unconditional Love

It’s the 10th and final week.  Lucas’s inmate trainer is preparing himself to say Goodbye.  He says that Lucas is a focused, well mannered boy with a wonderful personality.  At times when his trainer is watching TV Lucas will stare at him until he looks over then he will roll over on his back and extend his legs in the air wiggling back and forth.  His trainer admits that he can’t help but smile at Lucas’ antics.

Lucas’s inmate trainer says that his time with Lucas has helped in so many ways.  Working with Lucas has helped him to take a step closer to the type of person he wants to be.  This journey is teaching him to grow and become more patient and humble.  He’s often wondered how a creature that doesn’t even know him, show so much unconditional love.

Swap Week Sweetie

Well, swap week has come and gone and Lucas had a great time. He is a sweet boy.  He knows all of his commands, and even a few extras. He is such a good dog to work with and loves running and playing a lot, but he also calms down easily enough. He was very gentle eating and seems to have no separation anxiety issues. Lucas is just looking for a good home to bring some joy to a loving family.

Here Comes a Special Boy!

Another wonderful week with Lucas has come and gone. We had a really great time today with Ms. Patty. We took lots of pictures and took all the dogs to run on the big yard. It made his trainer's day to hear that Lucas has been adopted. His trainer is so happy for him. Whoever is getting Lucas, his trainer just wants you to know that you are very lucky. Lucas is pound-for-pound one of the best dogs he has ever encountered, it's like having an 80-lb teddy bear. He is so gentle, loving, and handsome as all get-out. Every minute that his trainer has had with this big guy has been nothing short of a blessing. He's really going to miss him. The time is coming, so get your treats, toys, and hearts ready, because here comes your new big baby! And his name is Lucas.

Eager To Please

Lucas’s inmate trainer says that he really enjoyed having Lucas around through the holidays.  It made a difficult time of year much more enjoyable.  He says that Lucas is a gentle loving boy who is a lot of fun!

Lucas has mastered all of his commands and performs them like a pro.  When he does something really well and makes his inmate trainer happy he just wants to keep doing it .  He’s eager to please and loves attention; treat rewards are always welcome as well!

For Christmas Lucas received a Kong filled with peanut butter, marshmallows and some of his favorite treats.  He had a field day with his yummy gift and wanted to know why Christmas didn’t come every day!

Handsome Holiday Hound

Lucas is such an amazing and lovable dog. His secondary trainer says that he has a ton of love for him already! He is the largest dog in the class, and his dark-striped, beautiful coat pattern also makes him the most handsome. Both intelligent and sensitive, he is the strong, silent type - but he goes crazy over anything that squeaks! It's a lot of fun to run with Lucas on the yard. The first time he ran with the secondary trainer, he jogged right alongside him. But he is capable of running much faster than any human!

Lucas is very easy to get along with and train and has quickly learned what his trainers want him to do. His secondary trainer reported that he could not have hoped for a better dog. Lucas is improving everyday and his trainer thinks he will like being a family pet instead of a racing dog because playing in freedom will bring out the full potential of his personality. He really enjoys exploring new sights and smells. His trainer says that he admires Lucas's quiet endurance throughout all his training and he hopes that Lucas goes to a good home. He loves treats and food in general, and he especially loves toys to chew on.

His trainer calls him Cool Hand Luke after the Paul Newman character. Right now, Lucas is relaxing peacefully in his bed. Sometimes he sleeps upside down on his back, and it makes you want to give him a belly rub and remind him what a good boy he is, and how much he is loved. It makes his trainers happy to imagine how much Lucas will appreciate all the new experiences and attention that he will receive when adopted!

All I Want for Christmas is Roooooo!

Lucas is such a wonderful dog! He's a big, 80-pound baby who loves to be loved on. His coat is so soft and he has the most beautiful brindle colors. His trainer knows that you can see pictures of him, but you really have to see him in real life. He is so cute. He has these big ole eyes and his too cute looks that he gives and he really makes it hard to deny him of anything. He is so smart - if his trainer does not change his feeding routine and the order that he gives commands during training every other day, he will start doing everything in order before his trainer even asks. So, his trainer has to change it up in order to keep him guessing. Truth is, his trainer thinks that Lucas is smarter than him!

Lucas has everything you could ask for in a dog. If his trainer could keep him for himself, he absolutely would. To sum him up, he is just a gentle giant. Whoever gets Lucas, he hopes y'all have plenty of room in your hearts because he's going to take up a lot of it. Until next time!

"Cool Hand Luke"

Lucas’s inmate trainer says that the past four weeks have flown by!  He says that Lucas is so much fun to be around!  He’s fondly called “Cool Hand Luke” amongst the trainers.   Lucas s inmate trainer says that Lucas is the biggest dog in the program, but also the most laid back and loving boy there.  He says that Lucas’ kennel is near the TV area and will watch movies with the guys.

He’s doing really well with training.  Stairs were introduced this week and he walks right up and down them without a hitch.  His inmate trainer says that Lucas takes new things with confidence and masters them like he’s been doing them all his life.

Toys and Lucas have a loving relationship although he has a favorite… an orange squeaky chicken.  His inmate trainer says that he’s looking forward to the remaining time he has with Lucas and that Lucas is one of the most amazing dogs he’s ever met!

Dreaming Of A Forever Home

Lucas has made significant progress in his training this past week.  He has been introduced to all the basic commands and is responding well to all of them.  What a smartie pants!  HIs trainer is still working with him on proper toy etiquette.  He gets a little excited (not aggressive or possessive)  when the toys come out, so his trainer is having him "down" before receiving a toy.

Lucas has been dreaming of a forever family and hopes to be adopted before Christmas.  He sent his letter to Santa and Lucas is hoping the elves are working hard to find his forever home.   Can yours be the one he's been dreaming of?

Gentle Giant

The second week of training for Lucas has been very productive. His trainer has introduced him to a total of 5 commands consistently and he seems to be getting an understanding of them all. At first, there was a slight bit of confusion between down and bed, but he got the hang of it by the end of the training session. His trainer has also tested him with toys, and while he is not aggressive or possessive in the least bit, his trainer is working on him containing his desire to reach for them. He should wait for them to be thrown or given to him, and it makes the possibility of interacting with children much easier. Lucas is a very fast learner and a gentle giant. His trainer thinks that he will turn out to be an excellent pet for any family dynamic.

Pick Me!

The first few days with Lucas have been mostly for assessment. Lucas's trainer hasn't begun to introduce him to actual commands yet but he can already tell that he will be a very quick learner. Lucas is also a great leash walker and seems as though he will be a very calm, obedient dog. Lucas has been adjusting to his new environment fairly well and has not exhibited the slightest symptoms of being stressed. He handled his initial grooming with no resistance and he wasted no time getting comfortable and relaxed. These are very good signs for things to come. Lucas seems to be easy pickings when it comes to both training and adopting!
