Graduation is Here!

It’s hard to believe that training is almost over for Bert. His parole date is approaching all too soon and his inmate trainer has grown very attached to him.  Bert is a very sweet boy who will provide his new family with wonderful companionship.  He’ll be leaving the prison with his basic obedience skills firmly under his fur….. er, belt.

Bert loves ice cubes and drinking out of public water fountains!  He scratches the ground forward and backward, like a truck stuck in the mud, during potty time!  His inmate trainer can’t help but smile at Bert’s potty antics.

Bert is loved and will be missed.  His inmate trainer would like to wish Bert and his new family a very Merry Christmas!

Graduation is Near!

Bert is the youngest of the group, but you wouldn’t be able to tell by the way he acts.  He is very obedient, easy to train, and has a calm laid back demeanor.  Bert’s inmate trainer believes that Bert will not have any problems acclimating to his new home as he is friendly and accepting of anyone meets.  He has mastered all of his basic commands as well as a few extras because of his eagerness to learn.  This boy loves his treats!  Like most Greyhounds Bert loves a good run and most of the time will stay with the pack.

Bert is such a sweet boy.  He shows no signs of being overly aggressive with toys or food.  This makes his inmate trainer believe that he will be good with children.  It’s hard to believe that Bert’s time in training is almost over.  His inmate trainer says that he will be sad to see him go, but happy that he will have a loving forever family.

Brilliant and Handsome

Hi there Bert here!  Just wanted to let you know that I’ve had a pretty awesome week!  As you can tell I’m pretty smart.  I know all of my basic commands and most of my extras.  As a matter of fact, the only thing I’m a little slow responding to is “kiss”.  I get what my inmate trainer wants me to do, but honestly he’s salty and I read that too much salt is not good for you so I hesitate a bit.  Oh!  You should also know that I know most all of my commands with verbal only or hand signal only ques!  Oh yea I’m brilliant!

I’m an energetic guy and I love to play with toys.  Those things squeak and I can toss them around and chase ‘em – Woo Hoo – who knew retirement was gonna be like this!  Thinking I should write the rest of my buddies at the track and tell them that they need to retire!  This is living!

You should know that I like to run and go for brisk walks.  We got new beds last week and I love sprawling out all over them they’re so amazing!  I’m not too crazy about sharing my bed, but I'll learn.  I’m also a social guy and enjoy having my inmate trainer around!

I hear that I'll be going to a forever home soon.  I'm really looking forward to meeting these new forever humans.  I hope they have comfy beds and toys!

Relax and Retire

This week Bert and his inmate trainer have been working on social skills and Bert is doing great! His inmate trainer has also been working on lying on the bed with him and resting his head on him,  pulling his ears and feet, and Bert doesn’t seem to mind at all!  Bert enjoys being around the other dogs and loves to lay around and relax.  His inmate trainer says he’s like a big cat!

Bert is doing great with all of his basic commands and knows spin, bow, shake, paws up, and kiss as well!  He’s a little slow responding to the jump command, but his trainer believes he’ll have this figured out soon!  His inmate trainer says that Bert is a great dog and he believes that Bert’s future family will have no problems falling in love with this great guy!

Mr. Wonderful

Bert did a really well on the stairs this week!  His inmate trainer is proud to report that Bert responds to his commands on the very first try!  Yep, that means he’s performing let’s go, kennel, release, wait, here, heel, sit, down, stay, bed, bow, and spin like a pro!

Bert’s inmate trainer believes that Bert is a wonderful dog who’s going to make some lucky family very happy!

Mr. Cool

This week Bert and his inmate trainer have been working to perfect all of his basic commands. His inmate trainer is proud to report that Bert knows let’s go, kennel, release, wait, heel, here, sit, down, stay, and bed really well.  He’s still a little slow responding to “jump” but his trainer believes he’ll have this figured out in no time.  He’s even gotten a great handle on his extras which includes spin, shake, paws up, and bow!

Bert is doing really well and still has not shown any type of food, toy, or kennel aggression!  He doesn’t whine while in his kennel nor has he shown any separation anxiety!

His inmate trainer says that Bert is a wonderful boy and is going to make some lucky family very happy!

The Training Machine

This week Bert has learned his basic commands "sit", "down", "heel", and "stay" with a toy instead of using treats.  So far, this has gone very well.  His inmate trainer has begun teaching Bert four extra commands as well.  These are "paws up", "shake", "spin", and "bow".

Bert is doing very well with all of his commands.  He'll have the extras perfected in a week or two.  What a great pup he is and what a great family dog he will be!

What a Student!

Bert is a great dog!  His personality is one of a kind, his inmate trainer states.  The pace that he is learning is great.  This week he has performed all of his basic commands.  Bert is always a happy, fun dog who has shown no aggression toward anyone for anything.  He has learned "jump" in four attempts!  He is definitely learning at a fast pace, which is awesome for his training team.  He is very smart!

So far he has mastered "let's go", "kennel", "release", "wait", "here", "sit", "down", and "bed".  They continue to fine tune "heel", "stay", and "jump".

More next week!

Fun and Outgoing

This week Bert has been working on sit, down, wait, stay, and bed.  He has already sat for the first time on command!  Kennel, stay, and down are still works in progress but his inmate trainer believes that Bert will have these figured out in no time!

Bert loves to play with toys and doesn’t mind sharing or having anyone around his food while he eats.  His inmate trainer says that Bert is a fun outgoing dog who loves attention.

Bert’s inmate trainer is really enjoying working him and can’t wait to see what Bert learns next!

Welcome To Prison Training

Bert arrived at the prison happy and curious. His inmate trainer started the name game right away to help Bert learn his new name.  His trainer says that Bert has a slight pull on the leash and likes to lean on your left leg when walking.  He has no problem with people touching his feet or ears.

Bert has been working on the “bed” command and will follow through slowly.  His inmate trainer says that he believes Bert will have this command down by the end of the week!  He is treat motivated and is responding well to “wait” at doors and his kennel.  Bert takes food from his trainers hand without a problem. He has no problem entering his kennel lying down.

Bert is a happy out going boy.  His inmate trainer says that he is looking forward to working with this great guy!
