Well, the last week of training is here.  Levi’s inmate handler says that Levi is one special guy.  He is well behaved and loves treats!  He loves to sleep, eat, attention and affection.  He’s a gentle giant!  He’s an obedient guy who does really well with training.  His inmate trainer believes that Levi is going to make a great family pet that will be good around children.  He believes that Levi is the kind of dog you’ll be able to take anywhere!

Saying goodbye is never easy and Levi is going to be missed.  His inmate trainer is thankful for his time with this amazing guy.

Graduation Is Drawing Near

What?! Only 12 days left?!  Levi’s inmate trainer is finding it hard to believe that graduation is just around the corner.  He says that Levi is a very smart boy who knows all of his basic commands as well as many extras!  Levi is a treat motivated guy who loves affection and lots of attention.  His trainer says that Levi is very gentle and could be great around kids.

With graduation drawing near his inmate trainer knows that he’s going to miss this wonderfully sweet Greyhound, but he believes that Levi is going to make some special family very happy.

Future Oscar Winner

Levi's alternate inmate handler says that going from a 56 lb dog to a 78 lb dog was like working with a giant!  He says that working with Levi was a great pleasure and a lot of fun!  Levi preformed all of his commands without any problems.  His alternate handler says that any dog that can play dead is cool and Levi even adds a little whine when he falls over for dramatic effect!  An Oscar may be in his future!

Levi prefers to be out and about with everyone.  He also enjoys a good game of fetch. Watching Levi run and have fun makes his alternate inmate handler smile.  His trainer says that the Greyhounds have earned a place in his heart and he enjoys his time with them.

One Smart Cookie

This has been a great week for Levi and his inmate trainer!  Levi has had a lot of time learning and playing!  His inmate trainer says that Levi is one smart cookie!  His trainer wanted you to be warned that Levi will try to play on your emotions with his big ole eyes and cute quirky expressions.

Most of this week’s training has consisted of reinforcement of the commands he already knows.  He will take a command from anyone!  He has a relaxed sometimes goofy temperament which makes him a delight to be around.

His inmate trainer has noticed the Levi does not like to be alone, but giving a Kong toy with tasty treats inside seems to keep him occupied.  He is doing really with the “give” and “leave it” commands!  His inmate trainer feels Levi is one well-rounded dog who is going to make a wonderful addition to a very fortunate family.

What A Wonderful Boy

This week Levi and his inmate trainer have been working on his "give" and "leave it" commands.  He doesn't mind giving up his toys, but "leave it" is still a little difficult at times especially with the bright colorful ones!  He is doing excellent with his other commands and does a great "down-stay."

Levi loves to lounge around on his bed all day, but he will come alive for a toy!  Treats are also a favorite of his and he'll do whatever is requested of him for a tasty reward!  His inmate trainer says that Levi is going to do great in his new home and has no doubt that his new family will fall head over heels for this wonderful boy!

One Outstanding Boy

Levi has made a lot of progress this week!  He has learned to leave it, shake, and give!  He also knows wait, here, sit, down, and stay with verbal only or hand signal only cues!  This smart boy has also learned how to bow and show his belly!

His inmate trainer says that Levi is a truly outstanding dog and believes that he is going to be great wherever he goes!

Ice Cube

Hello world! Levi here, just thought I'd try my paw at this blog thing.  My inmate trainer says I should let everyone know that I've learned to sit and show my belly.  I'll even give, but I think it's kinda rude that he wants MY toys, but I'll share cause I'm cool like that.  I also know how to hurry (that means potty time - in case you don't know), let's go (fun word I get to go places!), kennel, bed and release.  My inmate trainer is working with me on wait and heel, but I'll have those knocked out soon enough you just wait and see.  My inmate trainer seems to think that I eat too fast and like to taste test everything, but I'm not sure why he doesn't eat faster and taste new things - maybe he's confused at any rate he's missing out.  Anyway, he's working to slow me down a bit which is okay as long as it's ALL mine.  I've also discovered ice cubes this week!  Those cold little things are AMAZING!

I'm hoping to find a forever home one day and I'd like to mention that I LOVE my comfy bed, treats, and toys.

Making Progress

Levi is making progress and learning his commands quickly!  His response times can be a little show at times, but he follows through well.  He has hurry, let's go, kennel, release, wait, heel, here, down and bed down pat.  His inmate trainer got him to sit this week and says he's already looking like a pro!

His inmate trainer says that Levi loves lounging around on his bed, but that he's so big that some part of him is always hanging off! Levi has become a regular part of his trainers day and he says that  he enjoys having Levi by his side.

One Easy Going Guy

Levi is doing great!  He's a laid back guy who loves his bed!  His inmate trainer says that walking Levi on a leash is really cool!  This big guy does not get in a hurry and takes things at a nice and easy pace.

Levi loves play time enjoys and good ruuunnn!  Squeaky toys are his favorite, but treats are award winners too!

This big boy will preform wait, here, stay, and bed with verbal and hand signal commands!  His inmate trainer will continue to work on faster responses for let's go, kennel, release, down and bed.  His inmate trainer is looking forward to working with Levi in the days to come!

Training Time

The new sights, sounds and smells of prison are very different from Levi's racing days so they were a little scary at first, but not to worry he's adjusting really well!  His inmate trainer says that he's doing great on the leash and has learned his name quickly.  He loves toys and will catch them midair!  Levi shows excitement by wagging his tail and blowing air through his mouth.

Training time is underway and Levi is learning hurry, let's go, kennel, release, wait, heel, here, and bed!  His inmate trainer has also been working with him on the distance recall command!

His inmate trainer believes that Levi is going to make a terrific companion!
