Sassy Lady

Fern missed her trainers during swap week, but she is such a fast learner that she continued all the work she’d been doing on her commands and tricks without any hiccups.

Fern is still very energetic, especially in the morning when she loves to run and play.  She’s very sassy and entertaining, and an all-around joy to spend time with.  Her trainers say that she has taught them as much as they’ve taught her.

Sassy Girl

Fern currently knows all of her basic commands as well as 8 extra tricks. She loves the attention from all of the inmates and prison staff, and plays very well with the other dogs. She is very good about having her nails trimmed, teeth brushed, ears cleaned, and having a bath.

Her trainer describes her as a very fast learner, social, and sassy! She is very good about walking on a leash while staying attentive to her trainer and not being distracted by what’s going on around her. She is very vocal when she plays or when she wants to go outside or eat a meal. When she gets extra excited she will spin around in circles and playfully bark at whoever is playing with her.

Just Keep Running

Fern is a an active dog, sleeping and awake. During the day she loves to run and play, especially with her friend Jabo. At night she is a very active sleeper and will do little barks and run in her sleep, sometimes so much that she wakes herself up! She’ll jump up and look around for what woke her up, before going back to sleep. Silly girl.

Fern knows all of her commands, but her trainers are working with her to perfect “heel” and “stay”. She is learning some special tricks as well, including how to say “I Love You”, which is a perfect fit for this happy and loving dog.

Teacher's Pet

Fern has been coming along great. She is such a fast learner. She now knows “shake”, “paws up”, “spin”, and is working on “kiss” and “show me love”.

She definitely has an obsession with trying to find any sort of treats left around. She checks every corner of the playroom, her kennel, and the bottom bunk of her trainer’s bed for any sort of crumbs.

She’s also fascinated with the training room. She has so much fun learning in there that she tries to slip in any time the door is opened. When it’s not time for training, she will stare at the door waiting until she can go inside to show off her commands.

Learning Some More Fancy Tricks

Fern has been doing great this week! During her down time she loves to curl up on a pillow bed with Mambo and Jabo for a nap. When it’s time to play, she loves chasing tennis balls. She will get so excited that she will spin around in circles before she takes off running. If her trainers don’t throw the ball right away, she will playfully bark and growl at them to let them know that it is time to play.

She has learned a new command: “bang bang” and she will roll over and play dead. How cute!! They’re also continuing to work on “stay”, “heel”, and “shake”.

Talkative Toots

Fern has learned to “speak” this week! Her trainer says that she is so vocal they’ve also taught her how to “whisper”, and says it is just the cutest thing.

She has started to enjoy playing and socializing with the other dogs, especially curling up with Jabo in one of the new pillow beds they’ve gotten. Fern has some instinct to play fetch, so her trainer is trying to encourage that in her. There’s one particular rubber squeaky toy that she loves to chase around and play with, and sometimes she’ll bring it back to her trainers to be thrown again.

Fern knows the hand signal and verbal commands for “bed”, “kennel”, “jump”, and “speak”. This coming week they will be working on “stay”, “heel”, and “release”.

A Whirl of a Week

Fern has been coming on amazingly well.  She walks well on a leash and stays right beside her trainer.  She still loves watching everything that is going on. Sometimes she gets distracted during training, but a few treats always solve that real quickly!

She loves all of her toys and is getting better at playing with other dogs rather than keeping them all for herself.  She is a very vocal girl who will tell you exactly what she thinks, whether she’s being woken up when she wants to nap or she’s excited for a chance to play.  She also spins around in circles when she gets excited. This girl’s forever family is going to fall in love with her huge personality as soon as they meet her!

Snuggly Girl

Fern wasn’t sure what to make of Pulaski at first, with a bath straight away and all the new sights and sounds.  But since she discovered her cozy bed and blanket she has been one happy pup!  Her trainer says she will just sprawl out on her bed and take it all in.  As much as Fern loves her bed, she hates to miss anything that is going on, so sometimes even when she’s sleepy she’ll fight falling asleep just to watch and listen to everything that’s happening.

This very attentive lady already knows “wait”, “release”, and “let’s go”, and is very good on her leash.  She is already getting good with the stairs, and her trainer is currently working with her on learning her name, “kennel” and “sit” commands.
