Big Ball of Cuddles

It is Swap Week and this is what everyone had to say. Barley is a very laid back and super smart dog. He knows all of his commands and some extra ones too.

He was a little shy at first but it did not take long for him to open up. Barley can be a big ball of cuddles and who doesn’t want that? He loves to be talked to and will look at you with his undivided attention. It makes you wonder what he would say, if he could talk.

Barley is an excellent listener when it comes to his commands as well. You might have to use your big voice occasionally because he can be stubborn at times.

Barley has a great demeanor and will make his family feel so lucky to have him. You are going to love him.

Barley The Brain

Barley loves to carry his muzzle around instead of wearing it. It’s been hot this past week, so he enjoys a walk while carrying his muzzle. Barley said it’s too hot for a run. If he had his way, he would go “hurry” and then come right back inside.

This week was show and tell and Barley did great, just like his trainer knew he would. He’s an awesome greyhound and a dorm favorite. And soon to become your favorite boy too!

Loves Being the Center of Attention

This week Barley continued to work on his commands. He is willing to do his commands for people other than his handlers. He even did his commands for a few new officers during count while the whole dorm watched. He loves being the center of attention!

Barley got to play puppy soccer by himself a few times this week and he just loved it. His trainer hasn’t seen him so happy to be able to run and play. The dorm is planning to do a show and tell for everyone to see. This is where the trainers go through the commands with their dog and get scored on how well they do. It’s a scale of 1 - 10. 10 being the best. Everyone is placing bets on Barley, Lol! He has so many extra commands to show off such as “Kisses,” “Roach” and “Shell Game” just to name a few. They say he is the sweetest, smartest and fastest out of all the dogs here. Barley continues to be the dorm’s favorite loving fur baby.

Quite the Show Off

Barley is continuing to become more confident as he is coming out of his shell. He loves playing with a ball outside. His trainer said she figured he would love running with Jake but once the soccer ball was kicked that was all she wrote!

Barley is very humble and not aggressive at all. He will allow other dogs to take his toys or either try to play with them and he will just sit there giving them a look. It is the look of “Oh really now,” (Lol.) He has now learned he does not need a bed to sit or lay on, but he can do all of those things including his commands on the floor too.

Barley has won over some of the officers as well as the other trainers. Some will come in to pet him or just to see how he is doing. Barley still goes around to see everyone just to say hey and to get loved on. His new family is going to love seeing how his training has paid off. Barley has learned nine additional commands on top of his basic commands. He will be quite the show off with “Kiss,” “Paws Up,” “Roll Over,” “Shake,” “Bang-Bang,” and the list goes on and on.

Chill, Calm and So-So Sweet

Barley has been training at least twice a day and sometimes three. He even loves to show off his moves. He is finally showing his more playful side which is so fun to see. Barley will run back and forth and pretend to run into you and move at the last minute!

He is very gentle even when trying to take a toy from your hand. Barley prefers you to drop the toy so he can pick it up. He has been more playful with the other dogs and loves his play dates. He had a few this week with Jake and Tank. They all did their commands and got to pick toys to play with. Barley does have a few toys and he loves, a little fox which he will throw all on his own and then retrieve it. Sometimes he will even play tug-of-war, but he doesn’t pull hard and at times will just let it go, being the gentleman that he is. He also likes this plastic white chew ring and his little red Kong which sometimes is filled with treats or peanut butter. Barley has discovered that he loves to eat ice. At first he would just lick it and leave it, but once he noticed it crunched when he chewed it, it was like Donkey Kong (Lol.)

Barley knows all of his basic commands very well and will impress his new family with his extra commands. He knows “Kiss,” “Roll Over” and “Shake” just to name a few. He has become one of the dorm’s favorites because he is chill, calm and so-so sweet.

Nice To Meet You

Barley and his training has been going extremely well. Barley is under the impression that he cannot sit unless it’s on his bed, travel mat or blanket. He will sit on the floor, but prefers a soft spot instead.

Last week Barley learned to “roach” on command. Roach and roll-over go hand in hand, so now he knows “roll-over too. He knows all his basic commands and also a bunch of extras. (Kiss, show me love, roach, rollover and shake).

Barley is a fast runner, when he decides to run. He would rather run to people to be loved on instead. Barley is a very friendly and out-going boy and will fit into any family. Who’s the lucky one?

Loves Playdates

Training is going great! Barley knows all of his basic commands. He is a little stubborn when it comes to the “Sit” command but eventually, he will do it. They will continue working hard to master the “Sit” command. Barley has been learning to play a few games. One is called the “Shell Game.” This game consists of hiding a treat under one of three cups and he has to find which cup it is under. Barley also knows “Bang-Bang” and a command called “Roach.” He loves to sleep/roach so his trainer decided to see if he could be taught to do it on command. Barley is learning so many new things, he is also working on “Contraband Search.” It is going ok so far but they will update later if it is a success.

Barley’s favorite thing to do is to sleep. He loves to sleep, but when he is awake, he will make your day. Barley loves play dates, he had one with Bubbles recently. They got to do commands together and play with toys. Once they decided they both had enough, they shared a pillow and took a nap. He gets along with other dogs and his trainer believes Barley will be wonderful for a family with kids and or other pets.

Congratulations Barley!

Barley is a tiny bit more playful this week. He will go around to everyone to be petted before he decides to lie down. Training is going well. Barley and his trainer have been going to the training room twice a day, once in the morning and once at night.

Barley deserves congratulations! He know “Sit” and then some… he can be a little stubborn when in a training session but he is getting better everyday. He seems to enjoy spending quite time in his kennel and has discovered that he likes peanut butter. He is very gentle when taking treats from your hand and at times he will drop it and then eat the treat.

Barley has started playing with toys. He will pick them up like it’s a little puppy and looks like he is trying to de-flea them. He has not tried to make them squeak yet. Over the weekend Barley’s trainers have seen his personality beginning to emerge. He is more playful and has even found a favorite toy; a little green rubber ball!

Laid Back Barley

Barley’s first day started out with a bath, getting his ears cleaned and nails trimmed. He wasn’t a fan of his bath, but he did enjoy having his ears cleaned and nails trimmed. His trainer also found out while cleaning him that Barley is very ticklish!

Barley makes a great first impression. His trainer says so far he is a happy and gentle dog who loves meeting new people, even though he’s still feeling a little shy. He’s enjoying exploring his new surroundings and getting to know all the people. He is already comfortable being loved on, hugged and kissed, by his trainers and loves being near people so he can lay his head in their lap.

So far Barley is a pretty easy-going guy. He eats up his food without any water or anything else added to motivate him, and drinks his water with or without ice cubes. He enjoys laying in the giant dog beds and doesn’t startle when he’s woken up. They haven’t done much training yet, but he seems eager to learn.
