Calm, Cool, Collected and CUTE!

Zephyr's time here at Second Chance Academy has come to a close. She has learned all of her commands so well, and has even learned to "speak"! Zephyr is such a great dog with a great temperament. Her trainer hates to see her leave, and he has told her that she is going to her forever home and to be ready for her a new and exciting life!

A message to her forever family - you are going to love her. I dare you not to! She loves to play and take walks, and is a very calm walker. She likes, or should I say LOVES, any type of toy or stuffed animal. She will make such a great addition to your family and bring so much love to you.

Her trainer also wanted to give a big thanks to Miss Patti and all of the support volunteers who bring the hounds and their trainers together for these sessions. This program makes the days, weeks and months seem not so long, and being part of something worthwhile is a wonderful, rare thing in here. And Zephyr got to be part of that!

Swap Week Switcharoo!

It's the ole Swap Week Switcharoooo! Zephyr's swap week trainer says what we already know - she is a loving and amazing dog. She loves to play and she goes CRAZY for toys! She did great with her swap week trainer and he had no issues with her. She's going to adapt to commands from anyone like a champ. What a natural!

She knows her commands very well and she loves to run. Zephyr impressed everyone on her swap week training team. They all loved her sweet face, sweeter antics, and incredibly sweet lil snow paws! Just look at that face. She's going to make an amazing addition to your family!

Peek-A-Boo. Zephyr Sees You!

Zephyr never ceases to amaze her trainers.  She has pretty much mastered all of her commands and her extras.  Sometimes she takes a little time to "sit", but is improving.  She loves going for walks and does great on the leash.  Her trainers have nothing bad to say about this sweet girl.  They said it is fascinating to see the transformation that occurs from the time they first arrive at the prison, until they leave.  It is truly amazing, and Zephyr is just that....Amazing

She is such a greyt dog with her calm temperament, cute looks and brains to boot!  You are just going to love her!  Get ready to meet the cutest, little greyhound in the world!!!  Coming your way very soon...

Rockin' and Rollin'

What a great week 7 for Zephyr! She knows all of her commands very well. Her heel is a lot better, and also her sit and down have improved significantly. Zephyr will sit and down a lot faster now, where before she was a little slow to respond. Zephyr knows hand signals as well as verbal signals. Zephyr is very intelligent and her trainer is very proud of how she's doing. She's worked on three extra commands so far, and Zephyr knows all three very well. Those three are bow, speak and peekaboo. She picked up all of them very quickly and will move on to some new extras next week.

Zephyr is so laid-back and calm, but when you give her that favorite toy she loves, a free rabbit that squeaks, Zephyr comes alive! She is so fun to watch. She will have you laughing till your sides hurt. Her trainer likes to take the rabbit and hide it under one of the beds and then squeak it. Zephyr will pounce on the bed and start digging. She'll move the bed until she finds the rabbit! Once, her trainer tricked Zephyr and hid the toy behind his back but acted like it was under the bed. Zephyr moved the bed back and forth in the training room looking for her squeaky rabbit. She finally realized it was behind his back. It was so funny! It has been so awesome training Zephyr these 7 weeks. She will be missed so much when she leaves and goes to her forever home. She has been such a blessing and will be a blessing, and a lot more, to her new family. Stay with us for more great news next week!

Darn Cute!

Zephyr is such a greyt little greyhound, but don't let her size fool you.  When Zephyr and her trainer go to the big yard for exercise, she can really run with the big dogs.  She's the leader of the pack with her lightning speed.

Zephyr also loves to play in the training room with her toys.  This is really the only time you will see her get excited.  She's a very laid back kind of gal.  Her training is progressing well.  She knows "hurry", "let's go", "kennel", "release", "wait", "here", "stay", "bed" and "jump" well.  Zephyr still needs improvement on "heel", "sit" and "down", but no worries, her trainer knows she will have them down pat in no time.  Zephyr is going make someone a great friend and companion.

Amazing And Adorable

What an awesome five weeks it has been with Zephyr!  She did her first down and jump all by herself.  Her trainer's also practiced on the stairs this week, and they are proud to say she did very well with them.  No surprise there out of this girl!

Here training is going very well too.  She needs to improve on her heel and sit, but her trainers will keep working on all of her basic commands until they are precise and on point when she goes to her forever home.  Next week Zephyr will start on some extra commands. I wonder what they will be...

Zephyr is a blast to watch when she is playing with toys.  She will pounce on the squeaky toy, like a cat, and throw it up in the air.  She runs back and forth in the training room doing that.  Her trainers love watching her!

Zephyr has really come out of her shell, just arriving a short time ago.  She is the cutest, littlest and most adorable greyhound around!  She has made her trainers proud.  They know she will make her forever family very proud of what she has accomplished at  the SCG Academy.  Check back next week for more greyt news about Zephyr.

Hey Now, I'm an All-star!

Hello! Zephyr here, wanting to say a quick thank you to Second Chance Greyhounds for giving me a second chance beyond my racing career. Also thank you to my soon-to-be adopted family. Thank you so much for giving me a new home. I'm so looking forward to it, and I can't wait! I'm just so excited!

Okay, so as far as training, I'm coming along real nicely and I did my first sit, down, and jump this past week. I performed all of my commands and I'm going to keep practicing them until I do them on command the first time. My sit is still a little slow. Down is a side saddle, and my left foot rolls sometimes. Sitting is weird for me! But I'm going to work on that and correct it. I'm also working on jump, but everything else I do very well.

I'm getting more and more comfortable and opening up, which is making training a lot smoother. I really enjoyed playing with toys, especially the squeaky ones. I love to sit in the training room and play, and sometimes I throw the squeaky toy up in the air and then I chase it. My trainer thinks I'm so funny to watch. I am a very laid-back, so sweet and lovable greyhound - and I can't wait to meet you!

A New Love In Zephyr's Life.... Toys!

Week three already!  Zephyr has had a great week!  She’s still working on the “sit” command and making great progress.  Her inmate trainer says that he can see her thinking about it, but she hasn’t quite decided to follow through yet.  She continues to work on heel, wait, stay, leave it, bed and let’s go.  She’s a thinking kind of lady.  Her inmate trainer says that he knows she’ll work everything out and is looking forward to introducing “jump” next week.

Zephyr hasn’t really shown any interest in toys… until this week.  Her inmate trainer asked another trainer to join them and together they brought out the toys.  At first squeak, she came to life!  Her inmate trainer says that it’s been great to see her open up and have so much fun.

Laid-back Lady

Week Two! Zephyr is such a great greyhound. She is very sweet and loving. She has been working on the same commands she worked on during week one: hurry, let's go, kennel, release, wait, bed, and sit. Zephyr is moving along a little slower, but it's still only week two - there is so much to get used to around here!

Zephyr isn't treat or toy motivated, but once her trainer figures out what motivates this sweet girl, he'll be giving a lot of it to her!

Zephyr ran for the first tme on the big yard and she really enjoys running, especially with the other dogs. After a training session, her trainer ends it on a positive note by taking her to play in the training room. She doesn't play with toys yet, but maybe once she gets more comfortable she'll discover the joys of the toys.

Now, Zephyr is a very laid back greyhound. She seems to be off in her own little greyhound world at times, but she loves to be petted and loved on. She is so adorable! Just look at that face. She also enjoys taking all of her bedding in the kennel and balling it up to lay on top of it. It's funny to see her do that because at the same time she's relaxing, it looks like she's playing, too.

Thank you for checking in on Zephyr - she's a real choice greyhound!

Cutie Patootie!

Hello! My name is Zephyr. Thank you for going to Second Chance Greyhounds and adopting me. And thanks for the really cool name!  Since I got adopted, I have left my previous residence which was the racetrack. Now I'm at a 10-week training program. The people here are really nice to me. Since I arrived they have given me a bath, clipped my nails, cleaned my ears, searched me for ticks, fed me, gave me water, and nice kennel to sleep in, and showed me lots of love. They sure do know how to spoil a girl!

My trainer is making me do some commands. He has been telling me to hurry, let's go, kennel, release, and wait. Half the time I don't understand him. When I finally do what he asks me to do, I get some really tasty treats. The faster and better I get at understanding my trainer, the more rewards I get. Not only do I get treats, but I also get showed lots of love and told that I'm a good girl.  I think I'm going to like it here.....ALOT!

Next week my trainer said that we will move on to some new commands. I'm ready. Bring it on! I'm not really active like the boys are, nor do I like my toys yet. I'm a lady. I like to lay up in my kennel and look pretty. I have gotten a lot of compliments since I've been here and I am very sweet and laid-back. I can't wait to graduate from here and move to my forever home. I'm so excited, I can't wait!
