It's That Time... Graduation Day!

Well this is it!  The last blog for Lil Angel Charlotte.  Her trainer said they have been polishing up on her basic commands this week.  She is great with all of them.  Her two favorites are "sit" and "heel".

Graduation testing was on Friday and her trainer is happy to say that Charlotte passed the test without any trouble.  She still hasn't shown any interest in toys with squeaky's or without, but seems to like chewing on bones, finally.  Her trainer had been putting it in her crate the whole 10 weeks and just two days ago, she woke up her trainer at 1:30 am chewing loudly on the bone.  LOL

Charlotte has really been a great friend to her trainer and he knows she will make her new family happy for years to come.

Sweet Speed Racer

Charlotte's swap week trainer had a fantastic time with this sweet gorgeous gal. She is a very sweet and obedient dog. She does great with all of her commands and warmed right up to her swap week trainer from day one. This might be because he had treats ready for her, hehe...

Now, Miss Charlotte may not enjoy playing with toys all that much, but she LOVES to run. What a lil speedy gal! She will run from one side of the big yard to the other, over and over again. I sure hope you have room for this girl to fly! It's an amazing thing to watch. It's the most excited you see these sleepy sweet dogs.

Ready to meet you!

Charlotte has continued to do very well with her sweet, friendly and mellow demeanor shining every day. Her skill in performing commands has improved even more since last week! She did everything very well during doggy show and tell, so her trainer is confident that she is already ready to graduate from our program although there's a few weeks left before schoooool's out for the summer! Her trainer was thrilled to hear that she already has a home lined up for adoption! She is going to be missed by so many and so much!

She has been working on the heel command when she's on her walks, and she has learned to do them eagerly every time without needing her position corrected. She has also mastered the elusive "sit" and "down" commands and is willing to do the proper one when asked. Everyone was complimenting her on what a good job she did! She made her trainer so proud, and she'll make you even prouder!

"Really, I cannot think of any problems with Charlotte" - straight from the mouth of her trainer! She likes to sniff around a lot, being curious to smell new things while searching for the perfect patch of grass for her potty break, but she will move on and get it over with if you tell her to "leave it" or "let's go." Running is still one of her favorite activities, along with EATING of course. Her trainer said he was so happy to train such a sweet dog because he learned as much as she has, making it a perfectly peaceful training session and snugglefest.

Sit Pretty!

This week Charlotte has been polishing her basic commands. She has vastly improved on her "heels." If she gets a little ahead on her leash while walking, her trainer says one of two things: one is "heel," and she'll turn around very fast and run back to the heel position. The other one is "easy"; when her trainer says "easy," she'll slow down and return to her trainer's walking speed. She doesn't get ahead too often, though.

She's also been working on an extra command which is "sit pretty." While she's in the sit position, her trainer says "sit pretty!" Then she'll raise up like she's in a beg position. She's still in the early stages, but she's doing great with her balance! Charlotte is such a sweetheart and she'll make her new family so happy!

Princess Of Greyhounds

Charlotte is a very sweet and well-behaved girl!  Her inmate trainer says that it’s been a true pleasure working with a dog whose behavior has been so wonderful.  He says that she has a calm temperament.  She’s very clever and likes to figure out how to perform in such a way to earn treats.  In fact, the main challenge has been to make sure she actually waits until the command is given, because she tries to anticipate the action her human wants performed.  Her trainer has been mixing up the commands so she doesn’t know which one to expect.  They keep the training sessions short and fun so it’s not a chore for her, but more like a playtime.

Charlotte loves to run outside with her buddies.  So far she hasn’t shown much interest in toys.  Her ears perk up at the sight of small birds through the fence.   Her inmate trainer says she’s adorable to watch.  He calls her the Princess of Greyhounds.

Summer lovin', had me a blast!

This week has been a blast with Lil Miss Charlotte. She's starting to show interest in toys and currently she's enjoying the pink elephant that squeaks. She'll only play for about five minutes and then it's back to the bed for a nap to rest from that EXHAUSTING five minutes of squeaking.

This week she's been working on her basic commands and has them all mastered except for the elusive "jump." She does it but she's slow to respond, so it's more the timing than the command itself.

Charlotte's favorite time of day is exercise time. She really loves running and playing in the big yard with all of her friends. We know she'll bring you so much joy and so many smiles just like she has done for her trainer and his two-legged pals. Take care, and see you next week!

Golden Ticket To Sweetness = Charlotte

This week Charlotte has been working on "jump".  This first time her trainer tried to get her to "jump" she didn't want anything to do with it.  The second time she did her cute little sit, thinking that will get her whatever she wants. (Her trainer says it's hard not to give in to her adorable look she gives you with those big brown eyes).  LOL  Finally on the third try, her trainer helped her on the platform step by step.  After that, she decided it wasn't so bad, because a tasty treat was waiting for her each time.

Charlotte has also been polishing up on her basic commands this week too.  She's pretty much mastered all of them, but she is a little slow with "heel".  No worries.  Her trainer is confident she will have that one mastered in no time too.  Charlotte still hasn't shown any interest in toys yet.  This girl is such a sweetheart and her trainer is enjoying every minute he gets to spend with her.

Caught in Charlotte's Web of Love

Well, it's official - Charlotte's trainer is proud to say that she is now his favorite dog that he has ever trained! She is just so smart and has picked up on every command that comes her way. Not to mention she's just the most adorable greyhound he's ever seen. These traits paired with her sweet and loving personality make it impossible not to fall in love with her.

Miss Patti came to the prison on Saturday see how the dogs are progressing with their commands. Charlotte's trainer is very pleased to announce to the world that she did GREAT. She doesn't care for toys very much, but she does love a quick run with her greyhound buddies, Otis and Oscar (be sure to check them out, too! They're hunks!). It's funny watching her run and play with dogs who are twice her size.

Well, that's it for this week - check back next week for new pupdates! Take care!

Sweet Prodigy

Well it is Week 2 for Charlotte, and this week she has worked on leash walking, heel, here, sit, hurry, wait and kennel. She has picked up on leash-walking very well, which is unusual! She does try to pull ahead sometimes, but that is to be expected early in the training.

Right now her favorite command is sit. Any time she sees something she wants, she'll just sit. And sit is one of the hardest commands for greyhounds to master! She hasn't tried down or jump yet, but that will be in the weeks to come. Another thing she worked on was stairs. Her trainer is very happy to report that she picked up VERY well on them. A few more sessions of stair training and she'll be a pro.

She still hasn't shown any interest in playing with toys, but from her trainer's experience, that will change. He is really enjoying his time with Charlotte and hopes you are enjoying learning and reading about her. He's already fallen in love with her sweet personality, and so will you! Til next time!

Charlotte Mouse

t’s the start of a brand new 10 week session at Second Chance Greyhounds Academy and this inmate trainer was assigned a beautiful red brindle female with the race name of Golden Charlotte.  The name Charlotte seemed to suit her, so Charlotte it is.

Charlotte is a little unsure of her new environment, but she is opening up more and more each day.  She is super smart and is already picking up on sit and the heel command.  She is also doing very well leash walking.

Charlotte has this cute little overbite, so her trainer likes to call her Charlotte Mouse.  She is so adorable and her trainer is really looking forward to training and getting to know his new little friend.
