Cool Guy

Welcome to week 8! Tail’s inmate trainer says that they’ve had an awesome week!  They had Show and Tell this week and random trainers went through the commands with the dogs to see how they preformed with someone different making requests.  Tails did amazing!

This week was also swap week where the dogs spend time with alternate inmate trainers.  This allows the handlers to see how the dogs do away from their primary training team and to work through commands.

They also had stair training this week.  Tails did great and didn’t seem bothered by them at all.  He seems to like to try new things.

Tails is a playful guy who clams easily.  He’s not too crazy about having his teeth brushed and isn’t too sure about being hugged around the head/neck he’d much rather enjoy an ear scratch, neck or back rub.  He loves attention and treats are always welcome.

Toys. Toys. Toys!

Tail’s inmate trainer says that week 7 has been pretty easygoing.  They’ve focused most of their time and effort into sharing toys.  He wants to play with all the toys at one time.  He’s a bit of hoarder.  His inmate trainer says it’s kinda funny to watch him try to collect every toy he sees, even if it means sneaking one away from another hound.

Swap Week is approaching.  Tail’s inmate trainer says he’s not worried . He believes that Tails will do just fine working with an alternate training team.

Pick Me!

Hey guys!  It’s week 6 and I’ve been hanging with my secondary trainer teaching him the ropes.  I know all my commands, but he goes through them with me every day, at least twice.  And he gives me lots of treats for doing them.  I can’t ask for a nicer guy.

I hear the trainers talking about all of us going to our forever homes after we graduate.  I’m not sure what that is, but they make it sound wonderful.  Lots of treats, toys, comfy beds and all the love I could ask for.  Once I get to my forever home, I’m going to be the best huge hearted greyhound ever!  See you soon!

What Time Is It?

The 1/2 point is in sight.  Tails has been progressing faster than usual lately.  He’s adjusted to his daily routine.  He’s comfortable enough to explore, play and show his inmate trainer where the big training room is, so he can lounge around and snooze.  Tails thinks that nice comfy beds were made just for him!

At feeding time he sits politely next to his kennel waiting for his food bowl to appear.  He has an amazing ability to tell time!

Tail’s inmate trainer says that his goal is to keep learning fun and entertaining in the days to come.

Tailspin The Whirlwind

It has been 4 weeks and Tailspin the Whirlwind has been a greyt hound.  His inmate trainer says he works diligently to find ways to challenge Tails’ ability to learn.  He’s super smart so it’s important things stay fun and rewarding.  His inmate trainer says it’s been extraordinary watching Tails grow and learn.

Tails is an energetic guy who enjoys playtime.  He loves to chase, pounce, and shake toys with great joy.  He is selfish with his toys just oblivious to anything but them.  His inmate trainer has been working to teach him to share and be aware of his surroundings while playing.  If anyone approaches him with he’s playing with toys he gives them up with no protest.

Tails’ inmate trainer says that Tails has been a treat to teach!  He thinks that Tail’s forever family is going to be fortunate to bring this sweet boy home!

Tail Will Wag Without Fail

The hounds are wrapping up their third week, and Tails continues to keep his trainers on their toes. He catches on to commands so quickly that they're constantly trying to think of ways to challenge this little genius. He has been performing his basic ones fairly well, and he even learned how to play dead. They call it 'bang!' because the physical cue is a finger point, shaped like a gun, and then he does a very dramatic flop onto his side. He can never quite get his tail to stop moving, and he waits for a cue before putting his head all the way down. It's pretty funny and he seems to enjoy it.

They finally got around to introducing him to doggy toys and he had a blast! They sort of suspected that he had a high prey drive early on and were skeptical about him playing nicely, but he shared just fine. He can get zoned in and act as though he doesn't hear you saying give, but if you approach him, he immediately relinquishes the toy. Tails has been wonderful so far and the team has enjoyed his company. They still have a few weeks to prep the big guy, and soon he will be ready for his forever home!

Smarty Pants

Tails’ second week at Jenkins has been nothing short of impressive.  He’s proven to be a fast learner and his ability to retain the things his trainer teaches him is unreal.  He has only been in training for twelve days and he’s already been introduced to all but 1 of the 13 basic commands.  He’s even grasped the idea of a few special tricks.

He is a quick learner and his trainer is going to help Tails reach his highest potential.  He makes training him an easy task with his eagerness to learn.  The skies the limit.
