Shooting Star!

Well, gang, this is it. Our amazing companion Nova has finally completed all of his training and he is going to his forever family! In the last week, Nova has been utterly delightful as usual. He is excited about everything and loves doing his commands. He loves doing his extras even more than his basic commands - so start brainstorming cool things to teach him to do! "Nova, recite pi to the 100th digit... Nova, roo to the tune of Electric Avenue..."

Nova is such an amazing dog and his trainer was so happy to be a part of the team that trained him. The forever family lucky enough to adopt him is going to love him SO much and is the best companion anyone could ask for! He is going to be missed dearly by all who were graced by his sweetness.

An Utter Delight!

Nova was an absolute pleasure to have for swap week. He is so fun, playful, and energetic. This boy kept his swap week trainer on his toes! Nova loves to play, is a food fanatic, cannot get enough play time, is highly motivated by both toys and treats, and did I mention Nova really loves play time?! Cause he does!

But never fear! Nova is fantastic with his commands. He is always very attentive, especially when toys or treats are involved! (Hint: treats are great for reinforcing leash etiquette!). Nova will make such a lovely pet for whichever lucky family has chosen to give this handsome young greyhound the second chance he deserves!

"Bow" for the ladies

Nova’s inmate trainer says that Nova is doing extremely well with his training.  He says that Nova is a fun, and energetic boy who enjoys affection.  He learned a few more extras this week called “speak” and “bow.”  Needless to say, Nova loves preforming both of them!  Of course, he will do anything for treats.   His inmate trainer says that Nova loves toys and can get excited when playing with them.

Nova’s trainer says that it is going to be hard to see Nova leave.  He believes that the family that is lucky enough to adopt Nova will have a great life companion.

A Real Casanova

Nova has now mastered all of his basic commands and is beginning to learn some extra fun ones. Kiss and speak are about halfway there, and he's just starting to learn bow and spin. As he has continued to get comfortable, he now enjoys chewing on any of his bone toys, and he's doing better lying on his dog bed and the bunk bed. Of course, that's after he's gotten his energy out by playing with the squeaky toys or the Jolly ball first!  So "Casa"Nova continues to grow his way into his trainer's heart by showing what a good, well-rounded dog he is. He is a playful boy, but able to relax, and he is loving and affectionate, quick to learn, and eager to please. His trainers feel lucky to have him for even just a little while, and if you are the lucky people who choose to be his forever family, you have years of love and fun ahead of you!

One Amazing Hound

Nova’s inmate trainer says that Nova is an amazing boy!  He’s smart, loving, and playful.  This week they have been taking the big ball into the yard and Nova loves to play with it!  His inmate trainer says that having Nova around keeps things fun.

Nova continues to do really well with all of his commands and knows most with verbal and hand signal cues.  He’s a little slow responding to “wait” and “here” but will have those figured out very soon.  His inmate trainer plans to start adding a few more extras in next week!

Love Bug

Wow, halfway through our time with Nova! His trainer is very proud of his shining star since this week.  He earned nines and tens on all but one basic command. He didn't do jump during testing, but the next day he did after a few tries. He also did stairs much better than his trainer expected this week. He continues to show his energy playing with toys.   And he continues to show his puppy love while giving and getting attention from as many other inmates and staff as possible. His trainer is continually impressed with how wonderful of a dog he is and how great of pet and loving member of his forever family he will be. If you choose to adopt this big ole love bug, we're sure you'll be impressed, too!

Super Nova!

Nova's personality is really starting to shine thru as he continues to settle in and get comfortable in his home away from his forever home.  His playfulness with toys can't be hidden anymore.  He initially showed no interest in toys, but now he will play with them to his heart's content.  He is quick to "give" the toy up when asked.  What a good boy Nova.

Nova is also very affectionate and quick to give kisses and hugs.  He loves to visit with everyone, any chance he gets.  His training is going very well.  He knows most of the commands well, but needs improvement with wait, heel, sit and jump.  But hey, it's only the fourth week of training!  I'd say he's doing great.  Get ready for Nova to shine his light right into your heart!

What a Hunk!

Nova's trainer is continually impressed with how quickly he learns his commands. In less than a week, he went from not even trying to do a "down" to mastering it. Only "jump" is giving him trouble, since he's a little bit reluctant to get up on things. He's continued to increase his interest in toys.  He's okay with giving them up, especially for another toy or a handful of kibble. And he's still streaking around the big yard every chance he gets. The more time his trainer spends with Nova, the more they both get comfortable and more affectionate with each other. He's really a great dog with a good balance of energy, calmness, and love. Whoever chooses him to join their pack, will be blessed with a wonderful fur baby!

Handsome And Available

Week two with Nova and he’s already showing great improvement!  He’s walking well on the shiny floors and beginning to master some of his commands!  His inmate trainer has added “sit,” “jump,” and “stairs” this week.  He was a little slow going up the stairs, but better coming down.  It’s just a matter of time and he’ll have it all figured out.

What does an excited human and a squeaky toy create?  A playful Nova!  His inmate trainer said it was great to see Nova having so much fun!  Nova enjoys playtime in the yard and he’s getting more comfortable every day.  His inmate trainer says that Nova is relaxed, affectionate, and a joy to teach!

Shining Star

So we've now had four days to get to know our white star, or should I say, Nova. Our first impression is that he's a big, gentle teddy bear. He's definitely the calm, quiet type. Low energy and submissive. While he's not overly affectionate, he likes being petted, doesn't mind hugs around the head, and after a moment will even give kisses. As another trainer said, he is very chill.

The only thing he hasn't liked are the highly polished floors, but he's learning not to tense up and walk normally on them. This is super common for Greyhounds. They've never seen shiny floors before.  His trainer is confident he will get the hang of walking on them in no time.

So far he is not interested in any toys at all, but he is motivated by attention and treats. He's been doing well leash walking and the "kennel" command. His trainer is confident that over the next few weeks will have no problem learning the remaining basic commands. So if you're looking for a big, gentle guy to relax with and love on, look no further than the bright light of this shining star, Nova. If you decide to be his forever family, his trainer is sure that he will light up your life!
