Paws up!

Daphne has passed her final testing with flying colors, and her training team is very proud of her. This girl is ready to go to her forever home!

Daphne is a very well-behaved girl and she's very calm. The only time she gets excited is around toys and whenever she is playing with them. Right from the start, she always walked perfectly on her leash. She didn't really even have to be taught how to do it. She does get a little bit anxious at feeding times and will anticipate the next command coming, because she is just in such a hurry to eat!

Daphne can be mildly playful when getting belly rubs. She will pet you gently like she’s asking you to keep doing it. Sometimes she will even use both paws! She also loves running, especially when it's with her fellow greyhounds. She never seeks attention and normally doesn't demand it either, but there was an exception this past week. A softball prison ministry came to visit and during her bathroom break, she went right up to them asking for affection through the fence. This is the first time they saw her do this, and hopefully it won't be the last!

The Sky is the Limit

Daphne is a wonderful, sweet dog. She knows all her basic commands and she enjoys doing them. She also enjoys spending time in her bed and having her belly rubbed! She has no problems being brushed or with brushing her teeth. She's a great leash walker, and so good at it that sometimes you have to look to make sure she is still there - she is just that calm! Her swap week trainer did not see any aggressive behavior and she just loves and enjoys being around people. She is treat-motivated and the sky really is the limit on what she can learn, as long as the reward is edible. Daphne will definitely make a great addition to any home. She gets so excited when it's time to go run in the big yard, and she is so beautiful to watch. Her primary training team has done a great job with her, and they're so grateful for all the time they've gotten to spend with her over the last few months.

Laidback Lady

Daphne is showing marked improvements in her training and her primary and secondary trainer are very proud of her. They are now focusing on tightening up some loose spots in a few of her commands before she gets her Good Dog Degree.

Daphne is such a well-behaved girl. When she is being walked on her leash, she stays right by your side. They didn't really need to teach her that, she was just such a natural at it. They're now starting to work with her walking around the dorm off leash and so far she's doing very well. She is such a well-mannered dog, and is a dainty little lady. She doesn't lick faces and she doesn't bombard you with affection. She seems to say, “you can pet me if you want, but if you don't, that's okay too!” She is very calm except when she is playing with toys. That's when she gets really excited!

If you're looking for a chill furry four-legged family member who is well behaved, then Daphne is the girl for you!

Crazy For Squeaky Toys

Daphne worked with her secondary inmate trainer this week.  She has also been working on toy etiquette and giving the toy when requested. If you have yummy treats to swap for the “give” command she doesn’t hesitate, but if you don’t have a fair trade she’s not interested in sharing her toy with you.  She absolutely loves squeaky toys… the squeakier the better!

He says that she’s a calm and mild mannered girl.  She does get tail wagging happy with one particular staff member because this person always has treats for her.  Hint. Hint…Treats are a way to this girl’s heart.

Belly Rubs Are The Bomb!

Daphne had mid-exams this week and she did just fine!  Her inmate trainer says he’s very proud of her progress and is not worried at all about her graduation exam.

Daphne loves running out in the big yard with the other greyhounds.   She leapt over a bench with perfect form as if she were in a show proving how graceful and elegant she is.   She also enjoys playing with toys and does well with the “give” command.  Belly rubs are the best!

Her trainer says that Daphne has a very lady like manner eating and drinking in a dainty manner, as if elegance and grace are second nature.  He says that she’s a pleasant dog to be around and he believes she’s going to make some very lucky family very happy.  She’s not a big fan of thunder storms, but distracting her with toys  and a treat filled kong seemed to do the trick.

Halfway To My Forever Home

Hello Hoomans!  Daphne here to tell you about my week.   So I had another bath today and enjoyed it just fine after that first splash of water.  I got to enjoy a peanut butter and kibble filled Kong while letting my fur dry. Yep. It was a fun day.

My inmate trainer told me that the bath was a sign that I’m halfway done with training and that much closer to going to my forever home!  As you know, I’m brilliant and know my commands.  I’m also learning to control my excitement with toys.  I enjoy playing and relaxing on the bed. Taking a nice snoozy nap is very important business for a retiree.   You should understand though, treats are very important to my motivation…. You should probably take me shopping to pick out a few…. And maybe toys too….   Just sayin’

They don't come any cuter than me!

This week was the first show and tell for Daphne. This is where the dogs do their commands in front of the entire dorm. While there are still some wrinkles to iron out, overall Daphne did well. She is very treat motivated, so her trainer doesn’t foresee any problems with her mastering her commands before graduation. Daphne also did stair training for the second time. What a pro!. She must be practicing them in her sleep.

Daphne is making progress with “give” and waiting for her toys to be thrown, before chasing them. She loves toys just as much as treats!

Daphne is a great dog. She is glad to be out of her kennel just chilling with her humans. She is a joy to be around and will quickly be a cherished member of your forever family.

Anything for a Squeaky Toy

This week Daphne has made a lot of improvement on all of her commands. She impressed her trainer the most with learning down in just a few days, by far the fastest of any dog he's ever trained! She also began playing with toys recently and her trainer has discovered that she is VERY toy-motivated. Balls and stuffed toys are okay, but if it squeaks, she really wants it! Thankfully, she's already made a lot of progress learning to control her excitement.

This week she ran on the big yard for the first time and quickly found a running buddy with one of the other dogs in her class. She was panting with joy after her run. On the other side of all that energy, she has shown her calm side just as much, while relaxing on the bed in the evenings while they watch TV. She's also been giving a goodnight hug by leaning into her trainer’s chest as he squats down in front of her kennel. So if you're looking for a girl with lots of playfulness who still enjoys relaxation time and belly rubs, look no further than Miss Daphne!

She's a Princess

This week Daphne has made great strides with her commands. Her trainer was impressed with how well she has learned “sit” in just 4 -5 days. She surprised her trainer at how much she has improved with “let’s go” and “heel” in such a short time too.

Daphne had a cute moment this week working on “bed”. Instead of laying on the single bed laid flat for her, she got on the pile of 4 beds not being used. It was her own version of “The Princess and The Pea”! Silly girl! Daphne’s cute moments might get you, but her pretty eyes might be the bait that lures your heart in. What will hook it, is her desire for approval and her gentle nature. Maybe you could be the “Happily Ever After” family for Princess Daphne.

Delightful Daphne

This session, the second chance trainers are blessed to get to work with little miss Daphne. On intake day, she was fine with being handled for bathing, getting her nails trimmed and ears cleaned. She didn't eat from her trainer’s hand for the first meal, and she ignored her peanut butter and kibble Kong for a couple hours, but she quickly adjusted to all the new stuff within 24 hours.

Since then, she has been very treat-motivated and is alert and attentive. She's already learning proper leash walking, kennel commands, and her new name very well. That leads her trainer to feel very confident that she will easily learn the remaining commands in the coming weeks.

Daphne is a very pretty girl with brownish red brindle coloring. She also has a cute quirk of making a “uni-ear” when something in the distance gets her attention. And while learning bed earlier, she rolled over onto her back for a belly rub. So if you're looking for a well-rounded, submissive and gentle dog, yet one who has her playful moments and likes attention, look no further than this treat of a hound, Daphne the Delight!
