Lovely Aspen

Aspen is the most loving greyhound I have ever seen.  She follows me everywhere I go without getting on my nerves.  She does not get on the sofa but has decided she wants to sleep with me.  Most nights she will go to bed before me and cannot wait until I finally get in bed too.  Aspen will either sleep on me or next to me, she has to be touching me somewhere.  She has even layed her head on my neck and on my chest.  She must have gotten hot last night because it was the first time I woke up and she wasn't next to me.  Every time I walk in my room she will run jump on the bed hoping I will come lay down with her.

We go walking every morning and she loves it.  Since it gets so hot in South Georgia, we go early when everyone else is leaving to go to work.  We live in town so we see lots of people coming and going and she gets so disappointed when they don't stop to pet her.  Saying Hello is not enough, she wants their time and attention.  I can't wait to take her to a meet & greet, she will have a blast.

Aspen is a beautiful black girl with a very shiny coat.  She is so beautiful with a little gray on her face but not enough to be called "old woman".   There is a secret to her black shiny coat and I'll share it with her adopter.

Aspen gets along great with my greyhounds, in fact I have said several times that she fits like a glove in my home.  She also has been fine with my 10 pound Italian Greyhound, they have even slept together.  She is not cat tolerant though, she is way too interested in my outside cats.

I love having Aspen in my home, she is such a joy!!

Sweet Aspen

Aspen is a really sweet girl.  She is always right by my side, and happy to be there.  Aspen is great with my 2 and 3 year old grandchildren and I never have to worry about them getting on her nerves.  One thing I love about her is that I can love on her and kiss her face as much as I want and she loves every minute of it.  She has never growled at any of her foster sisters and brother, not even over food.  She is a very happy girl all the time and such a joy to be around.

We have had a lot of thunderstorms lately and she goes to her crate and curls up in the back until the storms pass.  In fact, she was scheduled to attend her first M&G yesterday but it was cancelled due to the weather, she wouldn't have enjoyed it anyway.  We're scheduled again on Sept. 14th, and if the weather is nice she will have a ball.  She never meets a stranger, in fact she would go home with anyone, she loves everyone she has met.  I love having her in my home.

Since her arrival, Ebony Eyes has done nothing but bring love and joy to the inmates' lives. She has a wonderful temperament and has excelled at her training. Her grayish face and loving nature have earned her the nickname "grandma." This girl loves being by her handler's side and enjoys the paws up position (only top half of her body on the bed) but if her new family doesn't want her up, then the "off" command will easily correct her. She lifts people's spirits and brings happiness wherever she goes. She curls up in a safe corner during storms but otherwise is fearless in every way. Ebony Eyes is super smart and so sweet and kind; she adjusts well to any environment and responds to anyone who works with her. She's a good girl. Her handler can't imagine waking up without sweet "grandma" to greet her but knows she'll be a wonderful, joyful addition to her forever family.

Time has flown by for Ebony Eyes' handler and she believes it's a lot to do with how wonderful a dog this girl is. Throughout her stay she's been nothing but a delight to care for, train and love on. She's so happy and full of personality and will no doubt light up whoever's life she becomes part of. She has been great to train and does so well on all her basic and extra commands, only rarely breaking her 20 feet down/stay if distracted. Ebony Eyes is so very loving and sweet and is guaranteed to make her lucky forever family happy and very proud to have chosen such a great dog to share their home with.

7/7/13

Another week of terrible weather, but Ebony Eyes has really adjusted well to it. Inside she carries on eating, playing and being very social; she just hates going out in the weather. Friday through Sunday she switched to another dorm and did very well. Ebony Eyes really loves to train and will do all of her commands for anyone as long as there is a reward at the end! Her favorite command is paws up, and she will gladly sit for prolonged periods with her paws up on the bed, watching you or being petted. It's very humorous to watch, because if you approach her from behind, all you see is her back legs on the ground and her curly cue tail wagging non stop. This special girl adjusts well to any environment. She is very friendly, extremely loving, and always willing to please whoever is taking care of her.

Ebony Eyes was great as usual this week, says her handler. The weather was persistently  horrible for several days so she spent that time being her very social self in the dorm, hanging out with the inmates and the other greyhounds. She doesn't like to go out in the storms and had some periods of shakiness, not wanting to go out for a potty break. Aside from that, she was great as ever. She's a very happy and loving dog that is going to make any family super excited to have chosen her as a pet. Her practice of her commands continues to go really well.

6/23/13

Ebony Eyes continues to thrive at the compound. From her wake up call at 7am to bedtime at 9pm, she is nothing but a joy to be around. She has a way of lifting spirits when they're down and causing people to smile even on their worst of days. This little angel will be a great companion and an excellent addition to her forever family. Ebony Eyes is top notch with all of her commands. Without distraction, she even does a good down/stay, but her handler is working on her focussing better to perfect that command. Her extra commands include lap, jump and paws up. Ebony Eyes walks really well on a leash but still pulls in a couple of situations: either to get back out of the heat into the air-conditioned dorm or to get through a doorway into a new environment. Small leash pops help. She has been her handler's smartest dog to date, excelling in everything she's been taught. She's sweet and social and spreads happiness to all who encounter her.

6/16/13

Ebony Eyes will jump up onto the jump table if her handler is sitting on it and also likes to join her handler on the bed. Her handler is not permitting her to do this and corrects her, just in case her new forever family doesn't want her on the bed or sofa. However, if you're looking for a hound to snuggle up with, it won't take much encouragement to get her to join you! This sweet girl did great in all her commands in a recent evaluation. Her only weakness was down/stay. What a wonderful thing it is to wake up every morning to this hound, says her handler. She's such a sweetheart and perfect in so many ways, that it's impossible not to start your day feeling positive. Without a doubt, her new family will love her very much.

6/9/13

Each day that is spent with Ebony Eyes is a day full of nothing but happiness and laughter, says her handler. This girl is the most loving dog she's come across in her three years of working in the program. Her disposition is great, her temperament is excellent and not a second will go by that her tail is not wagging in appreciation for even the littlest things you do for her. Whoever is lucky enough to adopt her is going to fall head over heels with her within minutes of meeting her. Ebony Eyes's training is going very well. She's doing great with her down/stay at twenty feet. Only mealtime distracts her - she loves her food. It may take a few tries for her to follow the command and wait for the "okay" release when it's time for breakfast or dinner as she gets so excited. Otherwise, this girl is on point with everything. She's not only one of the sweetest dogs but also one of the smartest that her handler has encountered.

6/2/13

Ebony Eyes is incredibly smart! She is very food driven, which is always a plus where training is concerned, but more often than not she'll do commands simply because you ask her to. Her tail never stops wagging and she is always eager to meet new people and explore new places that are familiar to her. She's a very happy, outgoing dog with a lot of energy. She does prefer the cool inside on hot days and lets her handler know when she's ready to end her walk in the heat by pulling towards the gym doors to get back into the air conditioning! Her training is going great. Her handlers have begun her implied stay and even though it's slow going she's doing exceptionally well. She's mastered a couple of extra non-basic commands already. Ebony Eyes is a great dog with an excellent temperament and disposition for any home.

5/26/13

This little beauty is so incredibly happy and sweet. She truly has one of the best temperaments her handler has encountered. Not only is this little princess happy, sweet and fun to be around, but she is also very smart. In a matter of hours she learned to sit and was sitting on command over and again without any hesitation. Ebony Eyes is excelling in her training and listens and takes direction very well. She does tend to pull on leash when she encounters something exciting that needs investigation, but otherwise she does a a perfect heel walk. She also adjusts really well to different environments. She's attentive and so loving towards anyone who talks to her. One of the favorites in the dorm, she will be stealing many more hearts there before she leaves.

First Impressions - 5/19/13

Oh my goodness, is Ebony Eyes a cutie or what?! She is absolutely adorable. She first came through the doors at full speed, wagging her tail like crazy. She's so friendly and happy every time you see her that it's impossible not to have a smile stuck on your face the whole time she's around you. She's shown no anxieties anywhere on the compound and is always eager to approach people. She is a very loving girl.
