Loving And Loyal

This is the last week for Riley at the prison.  Riley's trainer said it has been an absolute joy training and spending time with her.  She has mastered all her commands including five extras.  She's a smart girl and can learn just about anything you want to teach her.

Riley is the most loving, loyal and playful greyhound he has trained in the SCG program.  He will truly miss her.  Thank you for adopting Riley.

Lil Break-Dancer

This last week was swap week so that the trainers could see how the dogs did when they were away from their primary trainer. Riley and her swap week trainer had a blast. It took a couple of dog runs to adjust to walking her, kind of like trading in an SUV for a sports car. She is a lot of fun and very high energy. Whenever they went outside she did a little break dance and tucked her hindquarters and ran in a circle then jumped in the air and spun. Her swap trainer says he didn't want to give her back but he knows she'll make an amazing addition to your family.

Top of the Class!

This week the ladies at Second Chance came down for final evaluations and Riley passed with flying colors. She learned the pow command and everybody loves it. While she is in the down or bed position, throw a fake punch in front of her and she falls over as if she's been knocked out. It's adorable. She has also mastered bow and speak and will be going to another trainer this week to test her for separation anxiety. Her trainer is sure that she will be fine, and probably better than he will as he will really miss her. This is great preparation for the day when she leaves, both for her and her trainer. Tune in next week to see how she did during swap week!

Friendly Buddy

Riley's daily activities are pretty much the same every day. Some days are a little busier than others but she always has five bathroom breaks a day. Every day she gets to run in the big yard and that's a chance for her to get some exercise and play with the other dogs. She doesn't do a lot of running, but she does like to stand around and hang out. Also, Riley gets to go in the training room to play with toys and bond with her trainer. She has adapted to the facility nicely. Not only has she adapted to the facility well, but to being around a lot of new people, dogs, and all the excitement throughout the day.

Training is coming along very nicely. Riley knows all of her commands very well and she is really smart. She knows all of her basic commands and she also knows a few other commands as well, like speak and bow. At times Riley will hesitate to jump but once she jumps she will do it over and over.

When her trainer first got her, she had a little sore on her mouth but it has healed very nicely. Other than that, she's had no health concerns. The past week has gone very smoothly.

She is so good with her commands and is such a calm dog. She does get excited on the leash sometimes, she'll drop her back end down and will take off. Noises that she's not familiar with can maybe spook her, but she is so much fun to be around and is so sweet, loving, and will make a great addition to any family. She will be sorely missed when she leaves for her forever home.

What Did She Say?

Riley has learned something new this week!  She knows how to speak, but it's not like any you have heard before.  She doesn't bark.  Riley has a type of low "growl" followed by a sort of whine, all the while she's wagging her tail and getting excited.  Everyone in the dorm loves it and her trainer can't have her do it enough!  It's super cute!!

Riley is taking commands from other people in the dorm.  This way, she knows that whomever is commanding her, she will obey.  It's going very well.  The remaining 4 weeks her trainer plans to perfect what she already knows, including her manners.  She forgets them sometimes.  She can't contain her excitement when meeting new people and will jump on them.  It's a work in progress, but I'm sure before graduation she will have that mastered as well.  I wonder what next week has in store for Riley...  A few extra commands...

One of a Kind

Riley never ceases to amaze. Her personality just keeps growing and growing. She is the darling of the dorm. Everyone adores her and she knows no stranger. The ladies from SCG came down for progress testing on the dogs and Riley performed flawlessly, doing all her commands with ease. She's also mastered the stairs! She will start learning extra commands this week and her trainer can't express enough how much joy she brings him every day. If he could leave here today, she would be in his forever home tomorrow. She is truly one of a kind!

Birthday Girl!!!

This week was Riley's birthday - 2 years old! She celebrated with a rubber Kong filled with peanut butter and lots of treats. Her trainer didn't think he could love the sweet little girl anymore, but every week she continues to surprise him. This week she mastered the sit and down commands. She now knows all of her basic commands and is also really starting to show her personality. She now does this front paw stretch before coming out of her kennel and play growls while burying her head in her blankets. Everyone loves seeing her do it. Her trainer is trying to get her to do it out of the kennel, so he can teach it as a new trick. She can climb up and descend stairs without any trouble. Her trainer will continue to hone her commands throughout the session and even start adding extras next week.

Cute As A Button

It has been a wonderful week with Riley.  She has shed her shyness and has really opened up.  She loves meeting people and is very polite about it.  She loves to play fetch and always returns to her trainer with the toy.  All he has to say is "give" and she releases it every time.

Riley is a great leash walker.  He never has to tug on the leash to keep her by his side.  She loves to please her human.  Commands are going very well too.  She still struggles a little bit with sit and down, but her trainer is sure she will have them figured out by the end of the week.  Riley is super sweet and her cuteness can't be beat!

Making Friends

Riley has become more comfortable in the dorm and around all the other people this week.  She enjoys her kennel.  She never whines or cries to get out.  She has improved a lot on all of her commands.  Riley is not a fan of sit, down or jump yet, but it's early in the training and she will figure them out in good time.

She is a very attentive and gentle girl.  Everything is done with care and caution.  Quite the perfectionist!  Riley is very sweet and makes friends with everyone and every greyhound.  She also enjoys a fun run around the big yard with all her greyhound buddies.  It's very cute to watch her.  It's more of a prance instead of a run.  Riley is going to make a great family pet.  More updates next week...

Welcome To Riley's World

Welcome to the world of Riley!  This beautiful 2 year old has already captured the heart of her trainer.  She has a gentle, sweet disposition that draws you in... hook, line and sinker.  Riley was a little timid the first few days adjusting to her new surroundings, which is to be expected.  Everything is so new to her, but it hasn't taken her long to settle in.

Riley is very obedient and will have no trouble learning her commands.  She was introduced to squeaky toys and loves them!  Her trainer is looking forward to the next 10 weeks with his new best friend Riley.
