Squeaky Toys Please

This week was swap week at the SCG program at the prison.  Sunny's "swap week" trainer said she is a sweet and beautiful red girl.  She is such an awesome dog and he was very pleased to have been assigned to her for swap week.  Sunny does all of her commands with no problems.  She knows them forwards and backwards.  She loves attention and for someone to pet on her.  She's an attention hound for sure!

Sunny also loves toys!  When she hears a squeaky toy her ears perk up.  She still remembers to act like a lady and will sit in front of you and wait for you to throw her the toy.  She's hoping her new family will have plenty of squeaky toys waiting on her when she arrives next week.  More squeaky toys means more fun!!

Sunny is an all around greyt Greyhound and her trainer knows she will make her forever family very happy.  It will be love at first sight with Sunny!

Swap Week AKA New People to Love!

Sunny is doing amazing and has completed her tests to make sure that she knows all of her commands. She's doing everything that's asked of her, and sweetly. They're swapping dogs with each other this week and hopefully this will help deter separation anxiety. Sunny's inmate trainer thinks that she shouldn't have a problem because she absolutely loves people. And he said that he can't wait until swap week is over so he can have Sunny back!

Velcro Sweetheart

Sunny is doing great! The Second Chance Greyhounds folks came by this week to see and test the dogs and Sunny performed wonderfully. She has a very submissive attitude and loves to be loved on. She'll walk up to you really slow, and as soon as you touch her she's stuck! But when you bring a toy out, she's a whole different dog.

She's officially learned "stay" and is now heeling in the training room and on pads, but she does not like to heel on the hard floor. Heel is the last challenge to surmount, and Sunny's inmate trainer has no doubt she'll have it down by graduation day!

Sunny, A Ray Of Sunshine

Sunny brings a ray of sunshine to everyone she meets.  She is opening up on her excitement.  She loves playing in the training room and squeaky toys are her favorite. She'll grab it and make it squeak a few times and then look at her trainer as if to say, "I killed it.  Now what?"  Her inmate trainer will grab the toy and squeak it for her and she will do it all over again.  She's such a funny girl.

On Friday, Sunny was tested to see how she is doing on her commands.  She was rated as "knows well" on everything, but "heel", so her inmate trainer will work harder on that one this week.  He's confident she will know "heel" well very soon.

Sunny's inmate trainer is very much enjoying the time he gets to spend with this sweet girl.  He will definitely miss her when she goes to her forever family.

Jump Specialist

Sunny is doing well and becoming more and more eager to learn. Sunny and her inmate trainer have been working on "jump" and at first she was having no part of it! So her trainer started by putting her front paws on the high surfaces, then while holding a very enticing treat in front of her, someone would push her back legs up. Doing this over and over she has become a jump specialist! Now she seems to have no problem at all.

We're still working on "stay" and "heel" and those commands are what she'll be working on next week. Check back in to see how Sunny does!

Learning Together

Sunny's inmate trainer reported that our girl is coming along nicely with learning her commands. She now does "down" without a hitch! At first he had to start with doing the down command on the bed at feeding time, then put pads on the bed, but now she does "down" on the pads with no problem.

Next, they will be working on "stay." She is also working on "heel" because the position feels a little awkward for her, so her trainer has to walk backward until she gets behind him, then step forward. But he knows she'll get the hang of it. After all, this is completely new stuff!

Tune in next week to see what Sunny girl is up to!

Gentle Soul

Our girl Sunny is still doing very well. She now performs "sit" like an absolute champ. The Second Chance folks came by this week and Sunny got to show off for them. She greeted everyone and loved the attention!

Sunny is starting to blossom and come out of her shell. She will now perform a "bed" command out in the open! She does not like to be leash checked and she's still getting used to performing "heel" without shutting down, so her inmate trainer is being extra gentle with her to find the perfect balance to help her be obedient without being defeated by the training. So far, Sunny has shown no aggression at all - she's just a sweet gentle girl.

Walking on Sunshine

Sunny is a bright little gal who loves going for walks. She walks right beside her trainer and doesn't pull on her leash at all. She is still getting used to the "heel" command, and sometimes a toy is what it takes to get her in the right place.

Her trainer has been focusing on the "sit" command using a squeaky toy as a reward. She gets to play for a little bit after she successfully completes a "sit." At first she got so excited and went for the toy so intensely that her trainer thought she'd had toy aggression, but far from it! She gave the toy right up without any problems. Sunny is a master at "give" and "leave it" during play time. So far she knows "hurry" and "let's go" well, and is getting the hang of "kennel" and "wait."

Sunny is one sweet girl and her trainer expects that she'll learn quickly and make her forever family proud to have her by their side.

Sweet, Affectionate Girl

Sundrop is a sweet, affectionate, alert girl.  She is learning her name and how to walk like a lady on a leash.  She is figuring out what is expected of her and is doing great.  She is a good eater and seems to be treat motivated.  This will definitely help with her training.

Sundrop's inmate trainer worked on "hurry", "let's go", "kennel" and "wait" this week.  She is doing well with all of them.  He will introduce more commands next week.  She is getting used to the prison and this thing called retirement.  Who doesn't like a little free time and afternoon naps?  Sundrop will be in the prison program until after Christmas, but hopes her new family will save a present for her.  Maybe a new bed, or squeaky toy or a treat.  They are all on her list.
