Graduation is Coming!

Danny's inmate trainer says the ten weeks have just flown by with Danny. But he remembers the very day Danny arrived at the prison all wide-eyed and bushy-tailed. He was looking so uncertain but his tail was still wagging a mile a minute. His tail still wags a mile a minute, even when his inmate trainer tells him to stay. It's funny, his whole body pretty much freezes in the stay command, but his tail keeps on wagging.

This last week with Danny has been spent polishing his basic commands and his extras. He's starting to have more and more interest in toys but it doesn't last long. He really likes to shake the toy around a little then carry it to the nearest dog bed to cuddle with it, followed by a nap. Baby steps, baby steps.

With Father's Day recently passing Danny really helped his inmate trainer get through the holiday. He is such a friendly goof ball who eases everyone's anxieties. He'll do the same for this new adoptive family. Enjoy him!

Furever Friend

Swap week is over and Danny's trainer is happy to have his buddy back.  Danny came back to his trainer with a super speed wagging tail, but also with an attitude like "Daddy where have you been?  I missed you."  (I think the feeling was mutual.)

Danny worked on stairs this week again and he still has no trouble with them.  He is starting to love squeaky toys.  His ears perk up when he grabs one to play with.  He will chew on it for a bit then he likes to cuddle up with it for a quick nap.

Danny loves to perform his commands in front of people.  His eyes light up when his trainer goes in front of the room because he knows he's next.  Danny's trainer is truly going to miss his buddy when he leaves.  Get ready for your next buddy and furever friend.

A Certified Good Boy

This week was swap week and Danny had a great week! He is more energetic than his swap week trainer's primary greyhound, and he loves to play and gets excited at feeding time. But he calms very easily and he is not hard to manage during his spurts of energy. He is an obedient dog and submits himself to a sit when he really wants something, whether it's food, a toy, or just to come out of his kennel. It's so cute! He does such a good job at remaining calm and holding a sit position to let you know that you have his attention and he is ready to go.

Danny was a little hesitant to take commands from his new trainer at first, but he became very responsive within minutes. Eventually he was able to handle Danny as if he'd been the one training him all along!

Danny will be one of his swap week trainer's favorites to come out of this graduating class, and his new family is gonna be so lucky!

Dandy Dan The Man

Dan is a great greyhound with a super personality.  He is very much a treat hound, and as long as you have a treat handy he is happy to please you doing anything you ask of him.  He's such a smart boy.

Dan loves to go to the training room for testing.  He will hang out relaxing on the bed among a room full of dogs and people patiently waiting his turn.  When his trainer calls him to do his testing, he flies into action like he's a super hero there to save the day.  Dan has mastered all of the basic commands and is ready to impress his forever family.  He's Dandy Dan The Man!

Dan is a thrill to watch race around the big yard among the other greyhounds.  He carries himself so well,  always showing his sweet temperament.  Dan is a cool smart pup!

I Wanna Hold Your Hand

This week Danny has been polishing his basic commands. He's also been working on his extra commands, which are shake, bow, and paws up. He just added paws up this week. Danny LOVES to shake. His face lights up when he hears, "Danny, shake!" This guy truly loves to hold hands (and paws).

Danny is a low-energy greyhound. He loves to play in the yard, but while he's inside he's content to lie around on a bed. He'll have his random bursts of energy in the training room with his greyhound pals, but he's a laid back, great greyhound. He makes everyone's day with his wagging tail and happy smile. Everyone can't help but comment on how happy he is!

Danny has recently discovered how much he loves to chew on bones. His favorite is a wishbone shaped chew bone, so have a few on hand at home for this guy. Check back next week for more updates on Danny boy!

Sittin' and a Grinnin'

This week, Danny's been polishing his basic commands. He is progressing so well with all of his commands! He gets really excited when working with other people, so this week his trainer will be handing over the leash to random people in the dorm and see how he does getting commands from strangers. He also gets excited whenever a new person feeds him. All he wants to do is sit for them! That's his go-to trick to show off. If he wants anything, he'll just sit there like a statue. He'll be working on this, since there are so many other cute little tricks he could do (and ones he can do when asked - what a goofy boy!).

Danny had his first experience on the stairs this weekend, and he had no trouble. What a smart boy. Tune in next week for more updates on our lazy friend, Danny Boy!

License To Chill

Another week has come and gone with this amazing greyhound, Danny.  His trainer is sad because his time is passing by way too quickly with Danny Boy.  He is enjoying his training time with him.  He is such a laid back greyhound and gets along with everyone, greyhounds and people alike.  After Danny's training session he loves to just chill in the training room, Danny on a comfy soft bed and his trainer in a chair.  They are like 2 peas in a pod.

Every night Danny, his trainer, two other trainers and their greyhounds (A Star Ryley and Sassie Match) have a play/chill session.  I'm not sure who loves it more, the greyhounds or the trainers.

Danny's inmate trainer is polishing up on the basic commands.  He focused mainly on "stay" and "heel" and he is improving every day.  He also added a couple extra commands - "shake" and "bow".

The SCG staff visited the other day and Danny and his trainer got to show off just how far he has come since intake day.  His trainer couldn't have been prouder of Danny.  Keep up the good work!

Cutie Patootie

This week has been very productive with our friend Danny Boy! He's been working on all of his basic commands except for jump, which he'll start learning next week.

Danny is doing really well with all the basics. His heel command has greatly improved since Week 2 and he's getting into the proper position while in heel, so his front shoulder is lined up with his trainer's legs and Danny is facing forward. He is also improving on the down command. Down is an awkward position for greyhounds, and Danny normally downs with his back legs turned to the side. But his trainer is shaping his posture so he'll do it in a sphinx position. How regal! And Danny has performed some sphinx downs without his trainer having to shape them, so hooray! He's one smart boy.

His trainer says he is really enjoying getting to know this handsome guy. He is such a friendly, happy and laid-back greyhound. He enjoys just lying around in the training room with a couple other greyhounds. He also enjoys a quick playtime followed by a nice rest on a soft bed (who doesn't?). Check back next week for more updates in Danny Boy's World!

Happy Boy

A wonderful week has passed with our new friend Dandy Dan, now known as Danny. This week Danny worked on heel, sit, down and stay. He picked up on everything so quickly! He is already sitting on his own and downing. He just needs to work on his response time with those commands, but he's progressing very well with heel. His position is a little off but he is getting better with every session. He began "stay" yesterday and after one session he was already starting to get the hang of it. We are all confident that he'll have stay down in another week. Danny is a very happy Greyhound and his tail is always wagging. Just today, one of the guards was petting Danny and commented on what a happy boy he is. He gets along well with the other Greyhounds in his class and usually has a few play sessions with them every day. Check back next week for updates on happy boy Danny!

Tail Wagging, Happy Boy

Dandy Dan, now being called Danny, is a handsome 74lb. brindle boy, with a tail that never stops wagging.  His trainer said it started wagging the minute he met him and it hasn’t stopped.  He is a happy boy, adjusting well to his new environment.  His trainer has been working on leash training and the name game.  He’s catching on to both very quickly.  Danny has been sitting on his own in his kennel, so his trainer is pretty sure the “sit” command is going to a breeze to teach him.

This week his trainer will work on “here”, “heel” and “sit”.  Don’t forget to tune in next week for the progress of Danny Boy.
