Forever Family, Here I Come!

Lily’s secondary inmate trainer reported that he’s been working more directly with Lily lately.  He believes that she’s going to be a fantastic addition to her new family.

He says that she’s a sweet and gentle girl.  She loves to receive attention.  She’s quick to respond to her commands and seems to enjoy performing them.  The  yummy treat is an added bonus!  She did great at Show and Tell this week!

Next week will be Swap Week where the inmates exchange dogs to work on training. He believes she’s ready and will preform like a champ!

Cookies!

Another week in the record books for me.  I’m going to say that I’m a pro at these commands.  I know all the basic commands forwards and backwards, and with verbal cues and hand signals.  Can I get a “good girl”?

I’m going to donate my taste buds to a scientific endeavor of grading treats.  Here we go…  Coming in last place is kibble.  Are you serious?  I mean I’ll eat it, but it’s not filet mignon.  Next up is popcorn.  Buttery and salty.  A real tasty treat!  After popcorn, we have a tie between beef lung and beef liver.  How do they make these treats so crunchy on the outside, yet smooth and creamy on the inside?  Our runner up is marshmallows.  Soft and spongy little sugar bites.  A track treat.  I want a mouthful at a time, but my trainer only offers them to me one at a time.  Curses!  Foiled again.  Coming in first place is….. Drum roll…..  Peanut butter cookies!!!!!  Yum!  I try to eat them like a lady, but it’s just not possible.  So, if you are my adoptive family reading this, please take note to my taste buds.  See you soon!

Cutie Pie

Hello Lily’s family. This is Lily’s secondary trainer bringing you the blog this week. I’ve been working with her all along, but this is the first time getting to write to you about her. First of all, I think she is a great dog! She’s so sweet and gentle. Plus she’s a cutie pie! I just love working with her, but beware. That face is hard to say no to. Talk about puppy dog eyes!!!

Lily does well with her commands and her secondary trainer will iron out any wrinkles over the next few weeks. Lily’s secondary trainer says you’ve made a good choice letting Lily become part of your family. He knows Lily will fit right in wherever she goes.

You Are Going To Love Me!

It’s me Lily! Yep. Another week down and another week closer to coming home to you! I can’t wait! I know you are going to love me.

First and foremost I’d like to say that I’ve learned all my commands. Can I get a whoop whoop! On the command side, I’ve learned hurry, let’s go, kennel. They mean use the bathroom, walk by my side and go to your kennel. In that order. Then it’s release, which means I can break position. Wait - don’t cross a doorway. Heel - walk behind me and line up at my side. Here - stop whatever you are doing and come to me. Sit - self explanatory. Down - get on your belly. Stay - Don’t move (anywhere besides a doorway). Bed - Get on your bed and lay down. Jump - leap onto an elevated surface. Off - jump down. Leave it - don’t touch anything unless it comes from my trainer’s hand. That’s the basics. Any questions?

Lily "aka" Speedy Gonzales

Well, it’s week four here at the Second Chance Greyhounds Academy, and I’m having good ole time!  This is Lily, the retired racing greyhound coming to you live and in person.  On Thursday we were allowed to run on the big yard.  Of course I was the fastest in my group.  I trotted around to let my friends catch up, then I was off and running again. Yep. That’s me. Speedy Gonzales!

I’ve been learning a lot of new commands and I can’t wait to get home and show you.  See you soon.  Your next best friend,  Lily

Having a Blast!

I'm having a great time in the Second Chance Greyhounds program, and I just had to write and tell you all about it. My name is Lily, the retired racing greyhound, coming to you live and in person! Well, sorta.

First, I'd like to say that the whole environment here is pretty awesome. I have my own bed and it's right next to my primary trainer's so he can keep an eye on me at night. I get two good meals a day, plus every time I run through my commands I get yummy treats. .

Next, I'd like to say that the attention, scratching, and petting here is awesome! Complete strangers get overwhelmed by my charm and give me lots of love and attention.

Finally, let me say that the best part of this program is looking forward to what comes next. You, my forever family, will be waiting at the end, and I'm doing my best to become a great addition to your family. I'll be seeing you soon!

Love,

Lily

Couch Potato

Lily is having a really good second week!  She is settling in and soaking up all the love and attention.   She’s not a social butterfly yet, but is willing to approach anyone that looks like they are willing to pet her… sounds like it’s only a matter of time…

Her inmate trainer says that Lilly is turning into a couch potato.  She’s discovered retirement and seems to be taking it seriously.

She’s learning a few more commands every week.  Now they are working on “bed” and “stay”.  Right now she’s more interested in following her inmate trainer around in hopes of an ear scratch, but she’ll have the treat reward system figured out soon enough.   Her inmate trainer says that Lilly is very intelligent so she’ll have everything down pat before the end of the session.

Those Ears. Gotta Love Them!

Lily’s trainers are excited to have her there at Jenkins. She is settling in quickly and is such a sweet girl. And those ears! Who can resist them?

At feeding time Lily is like a Hoover Vacuum cleaner. No food goes to waste. LOL Lily seems to be catching on to leash walking and some of the other basic commands her trainer has introduced her to. (kennel, bed, release, stay, let’s go). Everything is going well and her trainer can already tell, that working with Lily is going to be a blast!
