World's Greatest Greyhound!

Yippee!  Shady is ready for her new family.  She passed her graduation test and knows all of her commands.  Once she does a command she loves to play and get treated for her awesome performance!  She deserves it.

Shady's trainer said she has been such a positive influence on him.  It's been a win-win cycle for both of them.  She will be greatly missed.  I hope you are ready for the world's best greyhound, because Shady is exactly that.

Fun-Loving Gal

Swap week has come and gone.  Shady’s alternate handler says that swap week is always an exciting week for the inmates as well as the hounds.  He says that he always misses his primary dog during this time but enjoys working with a new one for the week.  This week allows the alternate team to see how the dog responds to time away from its primary group, commands, meal times, and playtime.

He is proud to report that Shady did great! She performed her commands with ease and walked well on the leash.  He says that she’s a lot of fun, well-behaved, and a happy girl.

Gentle Girl

Shady is officially ready for her new home. She has been the world's greatest retired racer, and star student throughout these weeks of training. Shady hasn't shown any aggression and there's been numerous times when Shady couldn't have her way, but still followed the rules and remained the sweetheart that she is. Shady is very gentle girl. Don't be surprised if Shady asks for a belly rub out of the blue. This sweet girl is full of blessings and surprises.

Miss Congeniality

Shady is a master of all her commands!  It’s only week 7 and this smart girl could pass the final test today!  She knows all of her commands with verbal cues and many with both verbal and hand signal cues.  It will not take long until she’s responding to all with hand signal cues as well!

Her inmate trainer says that he is so proud of how far sweet Shady has come since her arrival.  She was once a shy and withdrawn girl, unsure of her new surroundings, but now that girl has ventured out of her comfort zone and rewarded all those around her with her beautiful personality.  Her trainer says that she’s a joy to be around and always ready for a bit of playtime

Soulful Gaze

If you are an animal lover like we are, then brace yourself for this precious girl. Giving a dog like Shady different treats will make your day. Shady speaks to people through her eyes. She has the most beautiful eyes and is what we call treat-motivated. Whoever is the blessed family adopting Shady, let me tell you this: toys, doggy snacks and lots of love is going to make your day when you give it all to this sweet girl. She really looks forward to being treated and rewarded. These things really motivate her so get ready for the treat lover Shady, because she is going to make you so very happy!

Gobble, Gobble!

Shady has found a new obsession… a turkey!  This toy makes a gobble sounds rather than the typical squeak of other toys.  Her inmate trainer says that it’s so fun to watch her play with this new discovery.   She can hear this sound from anywhere in the dorm and it immediately grabs her attention!

Training is going well for Shady!  She’s has a good handle on all of her commands, but is still a little slow responding to a handful of commands.  Hurry, Heel, and Jump are commands that she likes to think about a little before performing.  Not to worry, she’ll warm up to those and have the performance down pat in no time.  Her inmate trainer says that he’s looking forward to the weeks ahead with sweet Shady!

Master of Sit, Owner of Your Heart

In this early stage which is only the fourth week, Shady has been amazing. She makes the command sit look so easy and beautiful. When her trainer gives her treats he doesn't have to say sit. This girl automatically sits on her own like a real lady! As her trainer goes over basic commands with Shady, he has noticed that the sit command is her favorite, and she does it so well that it has become her trainer's favorite as well. And it will be your favorite soon!

Silly Little Girl!

Shady's third week has been one of excitement and surprise.  She seems to have fully come out of her shell and has grown accustomed to her new environment.  She not a fan of all the loud noises, but who can blame her.  Everyone enjoys a little peace and quiet now and then.

Shady enjoys going into the training room to let her hair down, so to speak.  A few days ago she began rolling around on the floor and running in circles.  She was being quite the silly little goofball!  You couldn't help but laugh at her.

This week Shady and her trainer started working on "down" and "jump".  She is picking up on them fairly quickly, just as she does with everything.  Her trainer said, "it is always exciting seeing my trainee first pick up on a command and perform it all by herself."  "I hold a bit of pride in the work I do with these greyhounds, and I am thankful every day I see Shady, that I am a part of it."

Ahead of the Curve

This past week, our girl Shady has been hard at work. She's nearly mastered wait, let's go, and heel. She's learned that even though climbing stairs may be daunting, she can overcome any obstacle with a little practice. Last but certainly not least, Shady is now able to perform one of the hardest commands for a greyhound: the dreaded "sit"! And what a pretty little sitter she is! She sits politely before she gets a toy, and even before she gets to eat her breakfast and dinner. Shady has grown much more comfortable in her new environment and her training progress has been incredible. Such a smart girl!

"Sweet Shady"

The first week at SCG academy for Shady has been one of fun and exploration.  She is a curious hound that seem pretty calm and easy going.  She is a little unsure of her new environment, but there's one thing she is sure of, and that is her love of toys!

Shady is making excellent progress acclimating and learning what retirement life is all about.  Her trainer said the first week has been a joy and he looks forward to what lies ahead with "Sweet Shady".
