Attentive Boy

Swap week is upon us yet again!  This is one week out of each session where the trainers swap dogs.  Hi swap week trainer said it was a fairly easy, but exciting week with Leo.  Leo is very well behaved and is super attentive to all of his commands.  He absolutely loves people!  And loves to be petted.  If you stop petting him, he inches closer as if to say, "Hey, you're not done yet!"  At the same time Leo is content to lounge around in his kennel on his own if need be.  You won't hear a peep out of Leo.  Naturally he's very excited to see you when you return. (it's very heartwarming).  No complaints from Leo's swap week trainer.  He enjoyed every minute with him and knows Leo will be welcomed into his forever family with open arms.

Fetch Anyone?

This week Leo's trainers have been working to perfect his basic commands, so he will be spot on when he goes to his forever home.  He worked on stair training again this week also.  He's improving, but sometimes likes to take one jump to the bottom.  They are working on taking one step at a time.  Practice makes perfect!

Leo is such a sweet loving dog.  He loves to be petted  and loved on when laying in his kennel or just lounging around on his bed.  When you stop petting him, he will give you this look like, "Hey.  I didn't tell you to stop.  Keep the belly rubs and ear scratches coming."

Leo is doing great with the "give" command when playing with his toys.  He's especially fond of his ball and loves a good game of fetch.  I'm not sure who does more fetching, Leo or his trainer.

Another couple of weeks and Leo is all yours.  I hope you will enjoy him as much as his trainers have.

It's Leo time!

Over the last few weeks, Leo has mastered all the basic commands, scoring perfect tens for all of them in a single week! He will soon begin to learn some extra commands and have some fun with those, namely "bow" and "kiss!"

Leo has done a total 180 regarding toys. He originally wasn't interested in toys at all ("hmmmm... I don't understand the concept, and I refuse to respond to it"), but now he's excited to play with his new squeaky friends! He even played fetch with his trainer, dropping the ball at his feet, waiting for it to be hurled again!

Best of all, Leo's trainer found out that his special guy is going to go to a forever home after he graduates from school! He has earned such a special place in the collective heart of his training team and they know this big sweet teddy bear will quickly settle in with his forever family, giving them infinite love and affection for years to come.

Lovable Lad

Working with Leo has been so wonderful. He is such a smart dog and he has been doing all of his commands very well and is just working on perfecting them. He is such a lovable dog and loves to be loved on - who doesn't?  He's like a little puppy and loves to be loved on like a puppy. Sometimes when it's feeding time, he gets very excited and will go through all of his commands so you'll give him his food! It's so funny to watch, you can't help but laugh, but he is working on focusing on the command he's given when it's time to eat. Leo is going to make such a wonderful pet and is going to bring so much sunshine into your lives!  More later on Lovable Leo!

I'm So Excited!

Hi everyone!  Leo here!  I just wanted to tell you first paw about my time here at the prison. I’ve learned to relax and enjoy this new environment.  These inmate trainers are pretty cool.  They play with us and give us treats; which is totally fine with me. They also give us attention and hugs – which is one of my personal favorite things.  I even like to start hugs from time to time.  I put my head on my inmate trainers shoulder when he squats down and hug him like he hugs me!

While all the guys here and fun and loving I’ve been told that I’ll be going to a forever home soon.  My inmate trainer says there will not be as many humans there, but they’ll love me just the same AND I get to stay there furever and ever!  He says there will be soft beds and treats and toys!  I have to admit my hopes are up now and I’m excited for the future!

You're the man, Leo!

Thjis week Leo has made a lot of progress in his training. All but the most difficult three commands he knows well and is even beginning to do them with hand signals only! Sit and jump are two that he's making progress on, and he is starting to get the hang of them.  His trainer is going to keep working with him until he nails it. He'll also practice in louder environments so that Leo learns how to focus and not give in to all the shiny noisy distractions begging for his attention.

Leo has begun to show more energy and excitement about plahying with toys, especially balls. He and another male dog played together chasing a ball in the yard this week. He is settling in more and more with each passing week.

So if you're looking for a tall, dark and handsome guy, who's mellow, enjoys peace and quiet, is gentle and affectionate, Leo is the man for you!

Laid Back Gentle Boy

Leo has had his first Show and Tell event and he was a little unsure about showing off his new basic command skills.  Some of the other inmate trainers called it stage fright, but in truth he just didn’t want everyone to see how good he really is.  No need in showing everyone up first time out.  It’s important they have a chance to catch up.  It’s no secret that Leo likes things to be low key and believes that his mad skills can be witnessed without all the hoopla.

His inmate trainer says that Leo is a gentle boy with a laid back nature.  He likes getting hugs and will rest his head on your shoulder if you squat down for hug.  Leo likes attention and gentleness if you’re looking for a sweet guy to add to your family then Leo’s just the boy you’ve been looking for!

The Missing Piece of Your Heart

During the first full week, Leo has continued to settle into his new surroundings, and especially so with his training team. With his big, beautiful brown eyes, he quickly draws people in and gets hugs which he fully enjoys. He is learning his commands very well, showing that he is eager to please and smart. He loves soaking up praise in the form of affection, along with lots of his favorite treats!

He's shown that he is enjoying his retirement time, just trotting slowly around the big yard and not sprinting like most of the other dogs in his class. If you are looking for a laid-back, easy-going, eager to please and love on furry family member, his trainer is confident beyond a doubt that Leo, formerly known as B's Warren Peace, would be the missing "peace" in your forever family!

Big Ole Teddy Bear

This session, one of our lucky trainers was assigned a beautiful dog he named Leo. He's a tall, lean fawn brindle with big brown eyes that just beg for love and attention... or is it food? He likes both but seems to prefer food, which has made it very easy to begin training him.

He's already learned his kennel commands well and is quickly learning his leash walking commands. Even with his strong food motivation, he has been great with the give command, letting his trainer take his food bowl while eating and just patiently and calmly waiting to get it back. And he'll keep calmly eating if his trainer's hand is in the bowl, too! What a chill dude.

While it's only been a week here, so far Leo has shown himself to be a reliably mellow, even-tempered and gentle, loving big teddy bear. His trainer says he is really looking forward to training him for the next few months and having him carve out a very special place in his heart, and he's sure Leo will do the same with his forever family!
