Greyt Companion

The end has come for Chelsie at Jenkins. The past 10 weeks have been very fun with Chelsie and her trainer wishes it didn’t have to end. He said she is a very smart greyhound that loves to play with toys or anyone that comes around. She knows all her commands very well with verbal cues and hand signals. She loves to sit….ALOT. She will look up at you with those big brown eyes, as if to say, “please give me a treat”. I’m sitting like a good girl.

Chelsie will make a greyt companion for any family. Once you get to know Chelsie, you will have a loyal friend for life. She is a loving, sweet girl. Thank you for giving her a second chance.

Ready For Retirement!

Week 9 is Swap Week! During this time the inmate swap dogs to see how they do taking commands from an alternate training team and to see how they do away from their primary trainers.  So I’m sure you’re wondering how Chelsie did….

Chelsie did fantastic! She showed off her vast knowledge of her commands.  She walked beautifully on a leash.  Her love of toys sends her over the moon with happiness; to which her alternate inmate trainer says you can’t help but smile at.

It’s hard to believe that in only one week she’ll be going to her forever home!

Ice. Ice. Chelsie

Week 8 has come and gone with sweet Chelsie. Her trainers said it was a fun week as always with her. She found a new love this week… ice cubes. It’s so cute to watch her try and pick them up and eat them.

Chelsie is an amazing dog and very smart. She knows all her basic commands forwards and backwards. Her trainer said she will definitely be ready to go to her forever home in a couple weeks. He sure will miss her. He said Chelsie has a way with her eyes to get what she wants. You will find out about that soon. Next week is swap week. He’s guessing she will be a good girl as always. Check back next week and see.

Anything for Playtime

Hello and welcome to week 7! Chelsie is enjoying her time here and had so much fun on the big yard this past week while she chased after the other dogs. She sure is fast!

They had show and tell, and she performed all of her commands very well - probably because she gets to relax with play time after each walk-through of them! That helps keep it fun for her. She loves toys in general but prefers ones with squeakers - of course! This session with this sweet girl has flown by so quickly. Chelsie is an awesome dog and will make someone very happy, as well as making a great pet and new family member.

Momma Chelsie

Chelsie’s inmate trainer says that this week has been so much fun!  She loves playing  with her toys and playing fetch.  She will go around checking all the humans to make sure they are doing okay.  She loves the big yard and acts like a mom with all the other dogs.  He says that Chelsie is a girl who always brings a smile to your face.  When she meets someone new her tail goes 100 mph with happy greetings.

Her trainer says that Chelsie is a wonderful dog.  She’s smart, loving, and knows all of her commands.  She enjoys showing off her command skills because she knows yummy rewards are about to follow.  He’s looking forward to the days ahead with Chelsie and knows she’s going to make a wonderful pet for her new family.

Squeak Time - Forever!

Hello and welcome to week 5! We are halfway through this session. Let me tell you about some of the things Chelsie’s trainer has reported for the week. She had fun running on the big yard, and she likes to run with the other dogs. She is a social butterfly to the core, which is great because it makes it easier to be around other people who have dogs too. She thinks that she is the big sister of the group, which is funny to watch as she tries to get other dogs motivated to run and play.

At their last show and tell, she did so good. She still needs some work on sitting, but that's a classic conundrum for greyhounds because of their long legs. She will get it over time, and like they say, Rome wasn't built in a day. With just a little more training, she will get the hang of it and it'll be like second nature for her. She loves toys with squeakers and has a ball with a squeaker built into it that she goes crazy for. She runs around with it in her mouth just squeaking it! Then she drops it and chases it around the room. She likes to play fetch too! Overall, Chelsie is a wonderful dog and will make an awesome pet and member of your family.

Play with me!

Well folks, week 4 has come and gone with Chelsie. This past week she has shown so much improvement with learning ‘sit.’ She has learned to sit when you ask her to do something else, and it's all she wants to do! She knows that if she stays, she gets treated for it.

Chelsie is very happy when it comes to playtime, and when you throw the toys she runs right back to the bed with it and just stands there waiting for you to throw it again. She also loves to run in the big yard with the other dogs, and she is always the one that tries to keep the other dogs running when they stop. She is just such a loving dog, and her trainer is looking forward to telling you more about her in the weeks to come. Thank you for giving her a second chance!

Small Steps, Big Strides

Welcome to week 3! Chelsie has been busy this past week with learning how to sit and she is slowly getting the concept. When she first began with sit, she had to be scooped and put in the position, but now she will try to sit on her own. She is still learning it so she'll work on it in small steps so that she doesn't get bored or tired. Like any other command, you have to make it easy for them to understand by introducing them to it in little bits and pieces. They are also working on wait and stay as well, and she already knows bed. Well, gotta go - time for a run in the big yard! Catch ya later!

Find That Squeaky Toy!

Week two!  Chelsie started out a little shy but has begun to open up. She’s becoming more relaxed and likes to visit with the other inmate trainers when she’s off leash in the dorm.  She’s discovered squeaky toys and has become very interested in a toy ball.  Her inmate trainer says that the first time she heard a squeak from the squeaky toy it scared her a little. Now she makes it her mission to hunt it down and find it!

He says they’ve started working on a few commands like; “wait,” “stay,” and “bed.”  She’s doing really well with all of them.  Her inmate trainer says that he’ll work on smoothing out her response times to these next week.

New Adventures with Chelsie

Welcome to the first week and the adventures of Chelsie.  When she first arrived she got a bath, brushed and her ears cleaned.  She enjoyed them all.

The first week the trainers work on bonding with the pup, which has been easy with her.  Love and affection was all she needed.  As her trainer writes this, she is keeping an eye on him, waiting for more scratches and loving.  Chelsie seems a little shy, but her trainer is sure she will become more confident in the days to come.  They are now at a new place where everything is unfamiliar to them.  All the greyhounds need time to adjust to their new home.   There are so many new sights, sounds and smells to check out.  She has already learned how to walk on the leash and the “kennel” command.  More to come next week.
