Guaranteed To Make You Smile

Sonny’s trainer is both sad and excited to be writing his final SCG blog He is thrilled that Sonny will be in his new home soon and happy that you will get to know and love him. Of course, such a naturally lovable fella will be missed.

Sonny’s trainer gets cracked up when it’s “hang out” time. Sonny can hardly contain his excitement. His eyes get huge. He bounds out of the kennel, sprints across the room and Wham! He jumps into the bed and lays down. This is one of the hundreds of ways Sonny makes his trainer smile. He said it has been a pleasure to train and get to know Sonny and knows he will make you smile too.

Best Boy!

Sonny has had a great week. He has acclimated so well to the facility and all the other people at Jenkins. He is a wonderful dog with a wonderful personality. He loves everyone and everyone loves him. Sonny is so treat-motivated and has no problem performing his commands. He knows all of his basic commands at the verbal level, or just the hand signal for a some of them.

His swap week trainer did not see any aggressive behavior towards anything whatsoever. He will make such a great pet and amazing companion for any home . He is a smart dog and he learns so fast! His swap week trainer had him for just a week and Sonny had no problems with him or anybody on his swap week team. He is a big beautiful baby that enjoys being around everyone! He has brought so much joy and excitement into his swap week trainer's life in just one week, so think about all the fun you are about to have!

Proud of this Pup

Sonny continues to dazzle and thrive! At this point, he knows all his commands, and his trainer’s time with him is more about furthering bond-building and keeping things fun. He is always happy to perform and eager to please.

His trainer plays a game with him when he’s working on further polishing his leash-walking (which he is already excellent at). His trainer alters the speed to make sure he’s paying attention, and sure enough he remains in position, glued to his left hip and staring up at him with a smile and his big beautiful eyes. You can see it in his expression – “look how good I’m doing!” It’s impossible not to be proud of him.

Sonny is always so focused on diligently working with his trainer that he often forgets how young he is. It’s fun to break out of their routine and stop to let another trainer say hello and play with him a little. His youthful playfulness bursts out in those moments, and reminds his trainer what a spunky, fun fella he is.

Having been around countless dogs throughout his life, his trainer admits he has rarely seen such a disarmingly, naturally lovable hound.

Fast As Lightning!

Sonny is officially the fastest hound in the program. His trainer turned him loose to run in the big yard every day of this week and he smoked all of the other dogs. He slows down a bit to let them catch up, then he’s off to the races again. It’s joy to watch these dogs do what they love to do…RUN.

In other news, Sonny’s trainer doesn’t know if he’s watching Sonny, or if Sonny is watching him. Every time Sonny is out laying on a bed, his trainer feels like someone is watching him. When he looks down, Sonny is laying on his side with one eye open, staring at his trainer. Sonny doesn’t want to miss a thing.

Sonny knows all his commands that his trainer has trained him on and Sonny has trained his trainer to pet him on command. LOL You are going to love this guy. His trainer can’t believe it’s almost time for him to leave. He’s going to miss Sonny a lot.

Big Heart

Sonny’s robust size is outdone by the size of his heart. He is not only the largest greyhound in this group, but it turns out he’s also the sweetest!

Sonny is a bit of a star at Jenkins First drawing attention with his size, handsomeness and kind eyes. He built on that with admiration of his easy-going, curious and exuberant warm personality. To top that off, today he was the fastest hound in his group. He made it look easy.

Sonny’s training is going very well. Whenever he is out training, everyone stops to compliment him, pet him or just say hello. Simply put, everyone loves Sonny and his trainer has no doubt that you will too!

Friendly Guy

Sonny is having another wonderful week at Second Chance Greyhound Academy. It’s amazing watching him come out of his shell a little more every day. He’s doing great with all of his commands and his trainer will keep working on them for distance and duration.

Sonny loves to be petted or given treats. He will walk around the dorm, constantly on the prowl for an empty dog bed he can curl up on. He is known far and wide as a friendly guy.

Sonny’s trainer said it will be tough letting him go after his ten weeks are up, but he’s happy knowing Sonny is going to a wonderful family.

Time To Lounge, Or Time To Play?

Another great week for Sonny!  He likes to see his human happy.  His inmate trainer says that whenever they are working on a new command you can see Sonny processing the information and then the light switch comes on and he does exactly what you’re asking. Not only is he super smart he's also laid back and content with being a couch potato or ready to play whenever you are.

Tail Wag Of Happiness

Sonny has really come out of his shell and is showing his true colors. He is very playful and affectionate throughout the day. He walks around the dorm, stopping at every bunk for some loving. He has a tail that wags with happiness. When Sonny is laying on his bed at his trainer’s feet, he will stare up at him waiting to be petted. He’s a true sweetheart!

Sonny is catching on to his commands. He knows hurry, let’s go, bed and leave it. Check back next week for more updates.

Big Sweetie

Sonny is having another great week here and seems to be enjoying his retirement from the race track. His trainer doesn’t want to sugar-coat it - when he heard he was getting an 80-pound male dog, all he could think was, "oh dear! That's a big guy!" Now that Sonny is here and coming out of his shell, everyone wishes THEY had this big handsome boy! Sonny is super sweet and very affectionate. His favorite times of the day are feeding time and couch potato time. During feeding time, he barely uses his teeth to pick up food - instead, he licks the kibble up a few pieces at a time. This means no nipped fingers when you treat him! He is so, so gentle.

Couch potato time is when he lies on his bed at his trainer's feet while he reads or watches TV. Sometimes he gets on the floor with Sonny just to pet his smooth coat. He can already tell that Sonny is going to be a great pet, and can't wait for you to meet him! Thanks for reading - see ya later!

Give Me Some Love

Sonny has already found a place in his inmate trainer’s heart!  His inmate trainer says that Sonny is very affectionate and loves having his neck scratched.

Hello?  Sonny here I borrowed the pen from my inmate trainer. I hope he doesn’t see the teeth marks…. Anyway I wanted to say a few words myself.  So I’m in this new place where they have this exchange system with treats.  I plan to study that a little more. I like it pretty well here.  I had a bath so I look pretty handsome. I’m sure the ladies will appreciate the shine to my fur.  Well, I guess I should sign off for now, but I’ll keep you posted how things are going!  See ya!
