Forever Family Here I Come

This week was a great week for Petey. His trainer was able to get every basic command and the rest of his extra commands worked out, so Petey will be able to pass his test! Petey seemed to be more antsy this week. His trainer said it could be that he hasn’t had much chance to run, due to the weather. Either way, he is doing great. His trainer is not ready to see him leave, but is happy to know she has had a big part in the wonderful greyhound he will be in his forever home.

No Other Like Petey

Petey has improved on his “stay” this week and still working on “jump”. He has mastered all his other commands, including a list of extras. He’s a very smart boy!

Petey has no issues going up the stairs, but hesitates when it’s time to come down. Petey will bravely come down the stairs if he can see the treat waiting for him at the bottom. Petey is one dog with a huge personality. He is definitely one-of-a kind!

Smarty Pants

Petey has had a great week! He’s working on perfecting “stay” and has come a long way!  His inmate trainer introduced the new command “bounce” and he’s taken to it quickly.  He’s not a big fan of going out in the rain.  He’d rather wait it out in a nice dry and comfy environment.  His inmate trainer says she’d rather stay inside too, but when it’s time to go, it’s time to go.  She says she’s having a great time working with this sweet boy and can’t wait to see what her learns next!

One Handsome Boy

Petey has had a great week!  His inmate trainer has been making sure his basic commands are on point.  He’s brushing up on “stay” and they’ve introduced “jump”.  So far he’s not seeing the fun in jumping.  He loves going up the stairs, but has to think a little before coming down them.  Sometimes it takes a treat on every step to provide that extra encouragement needed to bring him down them, but he seems pretty happy to do it then (little stinker). His inmate trainer says that little ole Petey thinks they haven’t caught onto his ways, but they see what he’s doing.  She says she’s having a great time training this sweet boy and believes he’s going to make some lucky family very happy!  It won’t be long now.

Incredible Furry Friend

Petey is making significant progress and doing a great job with training.  He knows all his basic commands, except “jump”. He hasn’t warmed up to that one just yet. He also knows some extras: Show me love, kiss, paws up, spin and shake. Petey doesn’t mind being in his kennel.  If he needs to go potty he’ll whine or bark to let you know it’s time.  Other than that, he hardly makes a noise.

Petey’s inmate trainer says that she believes that some lucky family will find themselves with a truly incredible furry friend!

Cool Breeze On My Fur

Petey’s inmate trainer says that with each day that passes they get to see more and more of Petey’s personality.  If he’s in his kennel and he wants the fan on, he’ll stand up and bark at the fan.  Once it’s on he’ll lie back down and lay as close to the fan as possible.  So far his inmate trainer is responding well to his requests.  His inmate trainer says that he’s so adorable!

He’s gotten much better with the “stay” command and they’ve introduced “paws-up” which he’s catching on to.  He’s already learned both verbal and hand signal cues for most of his commands.  His inmate trainer says that this boy is one smart cookie and she can’t wait to see what he figures out next!

Handsome & Smart

Petey has had a week to be proud of. It was “Show & Tail” and Petey showed out! He was able to do each and every command without hesitation. He did here, bed, sit , heel and down. He didn’t just do them for his primary but also for his secondary trainer! What a proud moment. Petey is not only handsome, but also one smart cookie!

Petey is doing great out on the dog field when it’s time to play. He’s quite the ladies man, err dog and he prefers to run with a few of them. When they run, oh boy, do they run! Petey doesn’t like to share a few of the toys, so his trainer is working with him on sharing. He has also become fond of books. Petey will grab a corner and try and run away with it, hanging out of his mouth. While it looks cute and adorable, his trainer is letting him know he’s not to that level of training (learning how to read) just yet.

Toys, Toys, Toys!

This week has been a good week….. both Petey and the training team have learned a lot about each other. Petey has learned to sit and down and is more receptive each and every day. He loves people and always wants to be in the middle of everything.

Petey loves toys and thinks all toys are for him, especially if they make noise. His trainer is helping him learn that sharing is also lots of fun. You can’t have all the toys all the time. You silly boy. Check back next week to see how things are going in Petey’s world.

Learning The Ropes

When Petey first arrived he seemed laid back but a little nervous.  He’d have times of being unsure about things, but was fine once he was in his kennel.  His inmate trainer has been working to teach Petey his new name as well as “bed” and “here”.  “Sit” is a work in progress as they just started that one yesterday.

Petey is great with people!  He seems to enjoy being around the other greyhounds.  He’s adjusting to the loud noises and how sound travels differently in this new environment.  His inmate trainer says that they’re working to help him feel as comfortable and confident as possible.  She’s looking forward to watching his personality grow as they progress through the program.
