Your Next Best Friend

Alex still doesn’t seem to be interested in toys.  His inmate trainer says they present them to him every day and attempt to show him how fun they are, but he just seems to think they are kind of boring.

This week Alex has been lounging around on his bed, going through his commands, watching a little TV, and playing in the big yard.  His inmate trainer says that Alex is a loving boy!  He enjoys giving and receiving attention. His inmate trainer says that he believes Alex is going to make a wonderful companion for some lucky family.

He’s just happy to have his human around.  He doesn’t mind having his nails clipped, teeth brushed and getting a bath is no big deal for him.

The only warning Alex’s inmate trainer has is… watch for those puppy dog eyes!  He’ll use them on you to get whatever he wants and it works!  Who can resist!

They’ve started working on sit to see how he does with it.   As usual he’s doing well with all of his other commands.  They have been focusing on distance and duration as well as fine tuning everything.

He has become intrigued with doors. It’s like they are magic.  They open and someone appears or disappears!  His inmate trainer says it’s very funny to watch is amazement of this magic trick.

He’s not too sure about toys just yet, but his inmate trainer says he’ll be working to show Alex how much fun those squeaky things are!

Favorite Command..."Bed"

Alex is making progress and learns quickly!  He’s doing great with leash walking.  He’s not too sure about all the stopping business as he has exploring to do.  His inmate trainer says not to worry. Alex is learning that listening earns him a yummy reward and time to explore.

So far his best command follow through is with bed.  He loves to lay around enjoying the day.  They’ve also been working on kennel, wait, release, heel, let’s go, hurry, stay and here.  He loves to lay on his back with his feet up in the air.  He also loves to use his cute puppy face for attention and treats.

Cute Puppy Dog Face!

Alex has arrived for training!  His inmate trainer says that it’s the first week and Alex is already showing some excitement and eagerness to learn.  Like most greyhounds he has a stubborn side, but a few training treats and his inmate trainer thinks he’ll find a way around that stubborn streak.  He’s already picking up on things quickly.  Alex is very curious and wants to explore everything.  Sometimes this can cause a distraction with his training, but as soon as he finds his treat focus that’ll change!

His inmate trainer says that Alex has a great puppy dog face. When you look at him it’s hard not to give in.  He’s looking forward to the training days to come with Alex!
