Goodbye Sweetie

Xena's inmate trainer has spent this past week polishing Xena's commands and spending quality time with her before graduation.  Oh, the volunteers from Second Chance Greyhounds were here testing everyone and Xena passed the commands test with flying colors.

She's so sweet and her inmate trainer knows her new family will absolutely adore her! Happy retirement Xena!!

Fun And Loving

This week was swap week for Xena.  This is where another trainer has her for a week to see how she adjusts with someone different giving commands and taking care of her.  He said Xena was really fun and enjoyable to have around.

Xena is a beautiful greyhound with that beautiful snow white coat and grey spots.  She's going to get lots of compliments when she is out and about with her new family!

Her swap week trainer said she is a very smart and lovable girl.  She only needs you to say her command once before she does it.  He feels she can learn lots more if you are willing to teach her.  She's very eager to please.  Xena is so lovable.  During walks, she will go up to anyone for petting and rubs.  She is also walks great on a leash.  Never pulling, walking by your side.

Xena loves playing with toys that make a noise.  Throw it and she's off running to get it and bring it back to you.  It's a short play session, but you will have tons of fun with her.

Whoever adopts Xena will not only get a beautiful girl, but also a fun one too.  Her swap week trainer has loved having her for one week.  He can only imagine how great it would be to have her all the time.  He wishes her new owners and Xena a happy life.  You're going to love her!

Amazing Girl

Xena and her trainer worked on fine tuning her commands, and as usual, her inmate trainer is amazed as ever by her intelligence and willingness to learn and perform them.  She can probably do them in her sleep.  Xena possesses such a calm and sweet demeanor and some family is going to be so lucky to adopt her!

Xena does have an energetic side, but only at play time.  She absolutely loves her toys and having them thrown for her.

Xena's time with her trainer is coming to an end and he will truly miss this special girl.  He knows she will make her new forever family very proud.

Brilliant and Beautiful

Xena has conquered the jump command!  As you already know, she has all of her commands down pat.  She’s preforming hurry, let’s go, kennel, wait, heel, here, sit, down, stay and bed like a rock star.  Her inmate trainer says that she’s a little slow responding to the release command but he knows that she’ll have this mastered before long.

Her inmate trainer says that he plans to start working on extra commands soon and he’s looking forward to seeing what she learns!  He’s also working on removing the treat reward and replacing it with praise or play time; wonder what she's gonna think of that!

Retirement Is Serious Stuff

Xena has progressed a lot in the last six weeks!  She knows all of her commands!  She refuses to jump so her inmate trainer is working with her on this command.  She looks at him as if to tell him that she’s now retired and jumping is just too much work.

Xena loves playing with the other dogs and can sometimes be a little bossy.  Her inmate trainer says that when she first came to the prison she was scared of everything.  Today she is much more relaxed and care free.  She is still a bit aloof with the officers because of their loud radios.

Her inmate trainer says that everyone loves Xena!  She’s hard to resist and he knows that her new forever family will feel the same way!

Xena The Cutie

Hi - It's me Princess Xena, well you can call me Xena for short.  I thought it was time for an update on my sweet, "Cutie" little self.  Ha, ha!  That's my race name, "Cutie".  Don't wear it out.  I'm doing much better since first arriving here at the prison.  It just took me a little bit of time to warm up to everyone.  Now I'm a tail-wagging, attention seeking girl.  Don't get me wrong, I still get a little jumpy with some of these loud noises here, but my trainer assures me it won't be this noisy at my forever home.  What a relief...

My trainer says I'm doing great with my commands, except "jump" and "leave it".  I'm sure I'll figure this jump thing out in due time, but this "leave it" command is a work in progress.  How can you expect me to want to "leave" something so yummy on the floor?  It's just soooooo tempting.  I'll keep practicing.  I do aim to please, you know.

Princess Xena bowing out.  Check back next week for my exciting new adventures.

Be Still My Heart

Xena is doing really well with her commands!  She has learned to sit, let’s go, wait, heel, here and stay!  She a little slow responding to release, sit, bed, down and jump but she’ll have these things figured out soon enough.

Xena’s inmate trainer says that Xena is a friendly girl who is beautiful and steals the hearts of those she comes in contact with.  She’s still unsure of the officers with their noisy keys and radios. Her inmate trainer believes that she’ll warm up to them in time it will just take some adjustments to this new temporary home.

Princess Xena

Xena the warrior princess has really come out of her shell this week.  She's doing so much better.  She has no problem approaching people for a little bit of petting.  She loves the attention.  When she came to the prison, she had her tail tucked, and was unsure of her new surroundings.  Now she's a happy dog, more confident and her tails a wagging.

She likes to play with toys, but she loves to eat!  This certainly makes training this little girl much easier.  She is doing really well with her commands.  Right now Xena knows "bed", "stay", "here", "wait", "heel", "kennel", and "let's go".  She and her trainer will be working on "sit" this week.  He's sure she will pick this one up pretty easily too.

Check back next week to follow the adventures of Xena, The Warrior Princess!

Training For A New Life

Xena is a sweet and loving dog that came to the prison unsure of her new temporary home.  She is slowly coming out of her shell.  She's a little jumpy with sudden noises and movements, but has improved since arriving at the prison.  What a change from being at the quiet kennels with the other greyhounds to the noisy prison life.

Xena is a Cutie, just like her racing name.  Her eyes will draw you in and melt your heart.  She's irresistible and she knows it.

This week they worked with Xena on "hurry", "kennel", "lets go" and "wait".  "Let's go" seems to be her favorite so far.

Xena is a good dog and her trainer knows she will come out of her shell and keep improving the next nine weeks.

Bonding Time

Xena is slowly coming out of her shell this week.  She is still jumpy when it comes to sudden movements and noises, or if people walk up behind her.  Her inmate trainer has been spending extra time bonding with her to gain her trust.  She is slowly but surely coming around.

Xena has shown no interest in toys - yet.  She is enjoying the laid-back life, called retirement, and wondering why she didn't hop on the band wagon earlier.

This week Xena and her inmate trainer are working on leash training, as well as other commands such as:  "let's go", "wait", "heel", "hurry".  She is slow to respond, but her inmate trainer has confidence in her and knows she will start picking it up very soon.
