The Final Week Has Arrived

The final week has arrived.  Larry and his inmate trainer chose to spend the week relaxing and playing.   He still isn’t playing with toys very often, but enjoys treats!  He knows all of his commands and will do them a lot faster with a treat reward.  He acts silly when he knows he’s about to get food.  He eats his food a little too fast so adding a ball or toy in his bowl will help slow him down.

Larry’s inmate trainer says that he’s going to miss this amazing boy and will think of him often. The training team is happy to know that Larry has been adopted and will be taken care of.

Making Swap Week Easy

Larry spent the week with an alternate inmate handler for swap week!  Larry’s alternate trainer said that to say Larry is a sweet and loving boy wouldn't really do him justice as he’s actually like an oversized teddy bear with an unbelievably adorable face!

Larry didn’t have any problems following commands from new people.  His alternate handler said that dogs like Larry make this program a lot of fun.  He believes that Larry is going to bring a lot of joy and happiness to his new family because in just one short week he brought all of that and more to his alternate trainer.

Ready to Learn AND Play

Larry has come a long way since arriving at the prison!  He arrived still healing from his neuter surgery and stayed very low key until after the stitches came out.  His inmate trainer says it was like someone flipped a light switch after the stiches were removed Larry came back ready to learn and play!  His trainer says that Larry took to working like a bird takes to flying!  One look at a treat and Larry is ready to comply!

Larry is a smart guy and he knows that he can get by with things with certain people and he plays that to the fullest! Larry’s inmate trainer says that he’s going to miss this amazing guy, but knows that his new forever family will find it easy to fall in love with Larry!

Mr. Amazing

This is Larry.  My inmate trainer suggested I try a paw at this progress report thing.  I’m enjoying my training and doing really well.  Okay I’m being modest, I’m awesome.  I’ve agreed to learn things without a treat reward, but I enjoy the praise and attention as well.  I know lots of fun stuff like hide-and-seek, bang, and toys are super fun!

My inmate trainer seems to enjoy recalling me when I’m in the yard playing.  I think he just likes to see me run.  It’s alright though, I don’t mind returning to him when he makes the request.  I enjoy hanging out with my trainer or spending time in my kennel.  Sometimes I lay around in my kennel with the door open as I find it very relaxing.  This new adventure has proven to be pretty amazing.  I can’t wait to become a part of someone’s family!

Mastering The Jump Command

Larry continues to impress his inmate trainer.  His training team spends time daily going through his basic commands and teaching him some new tricks - show me love and spin.  His primary trainer is working with Larry on the “jump” command.  He’s currently high jumping onto a table to help him get used to loading into a tall vehicle.  He knows all of his commands using both verbal and signal ques.  He’s working on an impressive list of extras:  paws up, spin, show me love, bow, chair, lap, put your head down, bang, shake, and sit pretty!

Larry’s trainer is enjoying his time with Larry and can’t wait to see what he learns next!

Eager to Please

Larry has been a bit sick and has needed some unscheduled early morning potty breaks.  He’s doing great with making the requests and not soiling his kennel.  It could be the diet change from the track to the prison which can cause some tummy issues.

He’s been working hard to do all of his commands and extras.   He learns new things quickly and is eager to please.  He’s been practicing the “jump” command and is getting higher and higher!  He prefers to be out with his humans and enjoys working with his secondary trainer just as much as he does his primary.

Larry has shown no signs of aggression and is doing really well with training.  Larry’s inmate trainer believes that Larry is going to be ready for his command test and Good Citizenship practice test.

Food, Treats, & Retirement

Larry has settled in and seems to enjoy working hard to please his inmate trainer.  He’s been learning “paws up” and “lap” along with his basic commands.  Larry loves food and has figured out that a response means a treat!  He’s trying to figure out why “wait” is so important when his food bowl is just right there within reach, but he’s learning that it’s a sweet reward for being patient.

Larry needed to make an off schedule potty run and woke his inmate up with a bark request.  His inmate trainer took him out and was proud to see that Larry got right to business and didn’t soil his crate!

Every day Larry seems to enjoy doing something different.  His inmate trainer is working to teach Larry to “laydown” and watch T.V., but for some reason he likes to face the T.V. hiney first!  His inmate trainer is trying to make Larry understand that the idea is to turn his eyes to the T.V.

Training is going really well and some extras have been added to keep things fun.  He says that Larry is learning so fast that they may run out of ideas!  Do you have any?

Progress!

Larry sat all by himself!  Now, it was a side sit not a full squat sit and it was on a cushion on his bed, but it was progress!  He’s doing really well with “here” and “heel”.  Larry’s inmate trainer says that Larry responds best with a soft gentle tone of voice.  Larry has been working on figuring out this whole bed sharing thing.  At first he didn’t like the idea of sharing his space, but he has come to understand that it’s not a bad deal at all.  He and Marshall lay around together napping and watching the human world.  His fear of shiny floors is improving, but he prefers to start out against a wall for safety.

Larry loves his treats and will try whatever he is asked to do for a yummy bite!  He enjoys time in his kennel and hanging out with his humans.  He responds well to both his primary and secondary inmate trainers.

Learning to Watch TV!

Larry is adjusting well to prison life.  He’s a little skeptical of the shiny floors so his inmate trainer is working on building Larry’s confidence on the reflective surface.  He knows and responds to his name without a problem.  Larry’s inmate trainer is proud to report that Larry is sitting on his own! He hasn’t shown any signs of aggression and is learning to watch TV with his inmate trainer!  He seems to enjoy his kennel and treats are number one on his list!

Larry’s inmate trainer is looking forward to the training days ahead and says that if you have any special tricks you want Larry to learn he’ll be happy to try them out!  (Just ask SCG to pass the message along to Larry’s training team)

Embracing a New Life

Larry has arrived at the prison for training.  So far he’s been pushed, pulled on, bathed, dried,  diet changed, nails trimmed and teeth brushed all of which he’s taken in stride.  He’s a leaner and leans on his inmate trainer when they walk and comes out of his kennel.

Larry doesn’t seem to mind the shiny floors.  Every now and then he slips but continues on unfazed.  He’s doing great on the leash!  No pulling and stays close to his inmate trainer’s side. His inmate trainer says that Larry’s a loving boy and those big eyes melt his heart.
