She is some hound!

Mimi surprises us everyday.  We knew that she was unlike most Greyhounds in that she occasionally barks but what we didn't know is that she will actually makes quite a nice watchdog.  She is not affraid to tell people that she hears them ringing the doorbell or sees them when she's in the backyard.  It's nice.   She's a loyal girl.

Cozy Quarters

Mimi has adapted well to our cozy little house.  She really likes to get close to her foster sister who willingly puts up with her lack of regard for personal space.

She is such a sweet girl.  What she likes a lot is having her chin held in one hand while you pet her face and head with the other.  She just melts.  Mimi appreciates all the love and affection that you are willing to give her.

Beauty, Brains, and Personality

This girl has it all.  Mimi is obviously a beautiful dog, but she's much more than looks alone.  She is a great dog and will be truly missed when she moves onto her forever home.

This girl has brains.  She is super smart and always wants to do the right thing.  She is food, or treat, motivated, and is easily correctable.  For instance, when she first arrived, she got into the cat food.  This only happend one more time, with gentle correction, before she completely stopped even glancing in it's direction not matter how tasty and tempting it was.

Mimi also shows us how smart she is with her command skils.  She has such an exuberant personality and is always eager to explore a new adventure but yet her most proficient comand is "wait".  She can be extremely excited to eat dinner or go for a walk but with just a few, "wait" comands, you can open the door and she'll stand still until you tell her, "let's go". This also comes in handy when leaving for work in the morning.  For some strange reason, she thinks that she wants to go with us, crazy girl.

When it comes to personality, Mimi has a ton of it and is not afraid to show it or share it.  She evenly expresses her feelings and doesn't favor any one memeber of the famly.  And she loves to be around us.  She is not a dog that separates herself from us but instead is always close by.  Whether it's watching tv or doing the laundry, she's never far away and sometimes it actually seems as if she'd help if she could.  If only she had thumbs. I know that's what she's thinking.  You can see it in her eager to please eyes.

A day of many firsts!

Mimi went to her very first meet and greet yesterday at the Petco in Marietta.  This was the first time that she had seen the inside of any petstore, petstore employees, or petstore customers.  She really enjoys meeting new people and is not afraid to go right up to them and show them what a good girl she is.

After her long day, Mimi was exhausted and a took nap.  I don't know who was in the crate first, Mimi or her foster sister, but they were both very comfortable.  Mimi is such a spunky girl.  It didn't take long before she was up and ready for dinner.  She is a stunning hound!

Settling In

Mimi continues to make herself at home as her personality blossoms. She is truly a sweetheart.  She loves  to snuggle and have her head scratched. Her ears are so soft.

This weekend we went for a few walks and did some hiking. Mimi enjoyed the outdoors and the woods but what she seemed to enjoy most of all was a good old roll in the grass.  She's a funny girl!

Mimi arrives!

It's so surprising how quicky Mimi has adapted to our little house with her foster Greyhound sister and her foster cat brothers.  She has shown absolutely no aggression or even really any attention to our cats at all.  It's amazing.

This girl is super smart and aims to please with her own laid back, love all attitude.  Nothing seems to bother her.  She's a great car rider, she walks well, she loves meeting new people, and her tail is always wagging. She is a happy hound, full of energy, and is always smiling!  Seriously.

7/7/13

Oakland Blockade is such a homebody and loves to play, chase kibble down the aisles and cuddle in the bed area of the dorm. Her training evaluation went great on the back porch, where she was able to do all her commands really well without the noisy distractions of the rec area. She had a successful weekend switch, spending a couple of nights in another dorm. And when she came back, her smile and wagging tail never stopped!

6/30/13

Oakland Blockade's favorite inside games are catch the kibble or bowling for kibble, where her handlers toss a kibble down the aisle and she dashes to retrieve it and come back for another. This girl really loves her food! She continues to do great with her commands in the dorm. Her stay commands are a little slow, but she does them. She's a very sweet girl with a cute personality.

6/23/13

Oakland Blockade is a great dog who does best in a quieter environment. Her handlers continue to work on making her more accepting of the gym and rec areas, but she's still nervous of those very noisy places. She's a peace-loving, home-loving girl. In the dorm, she's very happy and relaxed playing and does all her commands well there. She plays with toys and happily roams the aisles and even into the busier day room. Oakland is very smart and confident, learns quickly and is very playful when she wants to play! She's very good being groomed and will happily cuddle and be hugged.

6/16/13

Oakland Blockade has been doing really great on her commands, especially her down/stay. She now also thoroughly knows sit, down, stay, here, heel, shake, bed, wait, kennel and sit pretty. She'll do stairs as well, but more slowly. She's also easily correctable with a firm "no." There was a huge, loud fan put in the dorms one day this week when the ar-conditioning went out and she didn't like the noise, but as soon as it had gone she was her normal happy self again. She's doing better in the gym with each week that passes. Oakland is a very sweet girl who gets on great with people and with other dogs.

6/9/13

Sweet, affectionate Oakland Blockade loves giving kisses and loves people in general. She roams from person to person seeking attention and also loves kibble, so keeps aware of any food opportunities on her walkabouts! She's been doing great socially in the dorm and a lot better in the day room. She doesn't like loud, noisy places. This sweet girl is progressing well with training, with just stay and stairs being a little slower, though she does do them. She's also learned two extra commands: sit pretty and leave it. Oakland Blockade gets along well with the other greys and has been fine with the labs and poodles in the compound.

6/2/13

Oakland Blockade is doing excellently with her training. She absolutely loves learning commands and is very smart. It helps that she loves food and so is very motivated - she is learning quickly. She responds to all the basic commands and is most accomplished in sit, down, heel, wait and kennel. Her handlers are working on her dislike of the noisy gym and she's been making progress. Playing off leash at rec, she runs well with the other greys and gets along well with them. Of course, after a nice run she runs to her favorite spot at rec, the pool, where she loves to linger and cool off.

5/26/13

Oakland Blockade may be part fish, according to her handlers, as she spends every possible moment lounging in the water and doesn't want to get out! Despite not caring too much for toys when she first arrived, she now really enjoys playing with them, especially squeakers. She doesn't like the noisy gym area, so her handlers are helping her to adjust to it. In the dorm she's very active and fun but calms easily and also loves just relaxing in the bed area, being massaged. This sweet, loving girl is eager to please and seems to be enjoying training very much. She walks beautifully to heel and knows her here and wait commands well already.

First Impressions - 5/19/13

Oakland Blockade is quite the character. She's a very outgoing, happy, social butterfly. She goes from person to person, tail-a-wagging, eager for attention. She's very inquisitive and wants to sniff around everything and everywhere. She also appears to be very smart - she goes to lie down on a blanket set out on the floor and she waits well already at thresholds. This girl really enjoys her food, so her handlers expect her to do well in training!
