Thursday, October 15, 2009 at 9:26PM Sheba prefers to decide who she likes to go to, which really makes people feel very special when she selects them for a visit. She is very selective about her friends and her BFF continues to be Bella. The two of them hang out together on the dog field.
Sheba knows all her commands and will respond quickly to anyone who asks her to perform.
Monday, October 5, 2009 at 8:38PM Sheba is so sweet and loving that she has free range of the dorm and can visit anyone she likes because of her gentle spirit and quiet nature. People actually say they feel special when Sheba visits with them because she is so wonderful. She has mastered the "sad dog" face, especially when she is hoping to get some people food from one of the inmates. She is her trainers shadow, perferring to be right by her side at all times.
She likes toys and will stalk the stuffy and pounce on it like a cat, then batting it around with her front feet. They call her the cat/dog in the dorm.
She LOVES water. Outside, she jumps in the pool before the trainer can put water in it. If the pool isn't out, she will stand by the hose and mope. It all else fails, she will splash around in the outside water bowls. When they are finished playing, she stands by the hose to be rinsed off. Sheba gets along well with other greyhounds and the labs in training.
Sheba is a dream to train. She knows all of her commands including wait, heel, sit, down, stay and is working on shake. Sheba cues in on her trainer's body movements very quickly and seems to read body language very well, making it easy to tell her what you want her to do.
Tuesday, September 22, 2009 at 11:13PM Windy Wendy is now being called Sheba. She is lovable and mild-mannered with sporadic bursts of energy and playfulness that keeps you laughing. She is so well behaved, the trainer can take her anywhere and everywhere. Sheba will stay right next to her while she cleans, sweeps, mops, even waters plants in the greenhouse. Her favorite thing to do is explore the jungle plants and sneak in a nap in the middle of the big leaves while her trainer is working. Her daily highlight is the dog field where after the run, she enjoys hogging the pool.
A very smart girl, Sheba has mastered the sit, without any assistance this week. She knows her name and will come on command and she can do the stairs without any problem. Sheba is easy to train, so the other commands will come easily. Also, she is learning to have funs with toys.
Thursday, September 17, 2009 at 9:11AM Windy Wendy arrived with the others at the Gadsden Correctional Facility on Thursday, August 27th, around noon. The first week and a half is spent with the inmate/trainer as a way to get to get settled at the facility and get to know each other and bond.
Training actually began on Monday, September 7th. We are currently waiting on reports from that week's training to update the blogs.
