He's Adopted!

Raider recently was formally adopted by his foster family, Tina and Gary Wellborn.  He is enjoying life surrounded by his many four-legged brothers and sisters and even gets to go to the office every day.  No, not to work, but to smooze the customers at Beechwood Trails Pet Lodge.  Needless to say, he is loving life!

Raider figuring out the pecking order

Raider has been nearly a perfect fit in our house, as well as with our customers and their dogs.  At home, Raider has been quietly watching the goings on, and trying to figure out just who the "boss" is.  Just going by his reactions to our other kids, it seems he knows who to respect and who he can clown off with.  I'm sure he recognizes that Gretz, although not the boss, is a loose canon, so it's best just to ignore him completely.  The rest of the "normal dogs" are all just there for fun and can be played with any time.  But, then, there's this one little dog that does appear to run the show.  I would imagine that Raider is completely confused with her presence.  She doesn't exactly fit in with the rest of the guys.  In fact, she really doesn't look like any dog he's ever seen.  I would imagine he'd describe her as a tiny, dwarf, midget wolf - small in size, but with a huge personality and a voice to match.  That would be our New Guinea singing dog, Jingle.  Jingle plays, but she does it in a manner that would give most dogs the idea she's attacking them.  She comes roaring up, teeth bared, making all sorts of strange noises.  Raider's a good guy, though, and just let's Jingle do her thing.

Raider's a quick study and it didn't take him long to learn how to sing along with Jingle.  Three or four times a day she "sings", and the rest of the kids throw their heads back and howl away.  Raider added the deep voice that our house needed badly.

We are enjoying Raider very much and we figure he's going to make a great addition to our strange home.

What a Day!

Yesterday was quite an eventful day for Raider.  He started the day in Roswell, then headed south to our place.  A big thank you goes to Scott for transporting him to us.

At lunch, he got to meet our gang and did very well even though they can be a bit overwhelming to a newbie!  Corky was just beside herself with excitement.  She loves meeting new friends, especially greyhounds, and I don't think her tail could've wagged any faster. :-)   Raider patiently let them "check him out" and he did the same in return.  Gretz was his typical grumpy self, so Raider did the best thing and just left him alone.  All the others were curious in a nice way.  We were very pleased with how well they all did together.

Then it was back to work at our pet lodge.  He happily met several people who commented on how sweet and beautiful he is.  He also got to spend some time outside running around with Starfire (another one of our fosters).

Our bedroom is full of dogs every night and Raider fit right in.  He was a little restless and woke me up a couple of times rubbing his muzzle on my side of the bed.  I tried to get him to rub it on Gary's side instead, but I think he likes me best!  ;-)

I'm sure he's glad the initial meetings are past and that today won't be as eventful.  Now, he can start getting used to being one of the guys.

Hello,

My name is Raider. My foster mom should be blogging wonderous explainations about how wonderful I am, but she hasn't done it....so I'm taking over.

Let me tell you some things about me:

#1.  That picture of me, does not do me justice. I am a beautiful white with brown spots.  I am very regal.  Ok, I do love to play and be goofy...but, I never knock anything over.

#2.  In that picture, you can't see my really cool personality.  I am a happy, happy boy.  Everybody is my friend.  I am not shy...but don't worry, I'm too cool to be overly friendly, I can greet without jumping-up on you.  However, I can jump straight up, and get the treat out of my foster mom's hand, no matter how high it is.    How cool is that!!!!!!!

#3.  I come everytime I am called.  My foster mom taught me that with treats.  I love treats.  My foster mom says coming has something to do with, something called: o be di ence.  what-ever that is.

Tonight I start something called the: sit     hahahahahah   I'll let ya'll (I'm a southern dog) know what that is tomorrow.

Stay tuned

Raider

It is Friday and Raider has been with me since Sat. He has learned to do stairs and how throw a stuffie. He has been great with all my birds, dogs, cats and son. He follows well on lead, no pulling, even with my 7 year old.

I was sick for a couple of days, and he cuddled with me in bed... for as long as I wanted to. If I didn't move, he didn't move. He stayed in bed with me for 2 days, with only1 potty break a day. He is dedicated!

I have had one problem with him, though. I cannot seem to trust him with my turtle!

But, Raider has a very special talent. He will stand on the bottom to his cage, and not jump off, as I push it across the floor. No, it is not a smooth push, but a push...push...push, and he likes it!

He continues to be very sweet and will even go outside in the rain.
