Ms. Daisy

Daisy has been fitting into her foster home quite well.  Her vibrant personality really starting to show through.  She loves to snuggle with her foster siblings, Sunny & Chewy, our two italian greyhounds.  One of her newest past times has been sitting by the window that faces the Chattahoochee River and watching the rowing teams pass by.  Her house training has been great!  By following the lead of our two iggies, she lets us know when she's ready to head out for a potty by sitting next to the door and looking at us.  So adorable and such a quick learner.

Just released!!!

Daisy was just released from prison yesterday and is already at home napping with her foster sister.  She is terribly sweet and is very proud to show how much she has learned.  When they came in from pottying outside I got the treats out and Daisy was already in the sit position waiting for her reward.  What a good girl!  So I decided to test her and she laid down on command too!  Earlier this morning we went on a walk and chatted with a neighbor and her 2 year old daughter.  Daisy was very gentle when petted and not pushy at all.  She is a very laid back girl who is happy to toss around a stuffy for a few minutes then settle down for a quick nap.

Training Update: Week Six

Daisy is a happy and loveable girl.  She is so gentle with love that she may make an excellent therapy dog for retirement homes.

Daisy is head of her class and knows all commands without treating.  She is working on shake and longer stays, but grows bored easily since she knows how to do this.

Her newest love is playing soccer.  She enjoys wearing her muzzle and batting the ball around the puppy field.  After her play time, she cools herself off by jumping into the baby pool.  How adorable!!

Training Update: Week Four

Daisy is full of personality. She loves to play with the other dogs and enjoys romping in the turn out yard.

She is doing great with her training, showing off her sit, down, and wait commands without hesitation. Stairs continue to be a challenge, but she has a stair training buddy now - Dex. Hopefully he will show her the ropes.

Daisy is a lover and enjoys a good ear scratch as often as it is offered. She attended visitation with her trainer for the first time this past weekend. Visitation is a very loud and busy place, full of children and they are usually eager to love on the dogs. The dogs, however are not all eager to receive such excited greetings. Daisy did ok with this loud environment, but clearly prefered when things calmed down after a little while.

Things also improved when she saw the cheesesteak the trainer's family brought to her as a gift. Daisy licked her chops hoping to get just a little taste, offering a sit and a down over and over again without being asked. All it earned her was some kibble for her polite manners, but obviously this girl is food motivated.

From Sit to Down

After mastering the sit in record time, Miss Daisy has started working on down this week. She is getting there with the help of some kibble. Also on the list are stairs for this long-legged diva. Going up is no problem, but coming down is a tad bit scary. Her trainer feels like she isn't quite sure how to get her back feet working on a slant. With a bit of food for motivation, she figures it out pretty quickly.

Some dogs are toy motivated, while others are food motivated - meaning they will do what is asked of them in exchange for either the toy or food. Daisy is very food motivated. She should wear a sign around her neck that says "Will work for food."

Her favorite time of the day is the morning. She prefers to run laps with the male dogs because she is so fast, but will only run one lap. She figures she's already won - why continue?
