She's Home!

Sami didn't make it far as I fell totally head over heels for her.  I formally and officially adopted her last night.  She loves it here and we love having her.  I'm hopeful she'll be a decent lure courser.  She is not yet two (birthday is June 20th) and is full of energy.  We will see what transpires.

Welcome home Sami!!

First Road Trip

Besides the short jaunt from Birmingham to Douglasville, Sami hasn't been on a road trip.  Well, not in her civilian life, that is.  That is about to change as tomorrow we head North to Gatlinburg to enjoy the festivities surrounding this year's Mountain Hounds.  We're terribly excited and I know the girls (Remi, Sugar, Lucy and, of course, Sami) are looking forward to it as well.

I've never been to Gatlinburg so am thrilled about visiting for the first time.  Sami said she is, too.  I'll get scads of pictures for her blog and my own as well.  Oh, today I purchased four luau outfits for the girls.  It's going to be a hoot.  Look for pictures of that after the weekend!

Treats

It's known that some trainers at the track give their Greyhounds marshmallows as a treat after they've run.  The kennel at Birmingham where we get our Greyhounds is no exception.  Every one we've gotten so far is head over heels for a marshmallow.

Well, in addition to marshmallows at my house, my girls occasionally indulge in a small cup of vanilla ice cream.  The other night I decided it was time for an ice cream party so I pulled out cups from the freezer for everyone.  Everyone means five Greyhounds, two of which are fosters.

Of course, once I sat the ice cream cups down in front of the foster girls, they knew exactly what to do with them.  No one needed to learn anything from anyone.   You can't beat that now can you?

Television

Here's another first . . . Sami discovered the television.  Last night I caught her watching it intently cocking her head one way and then the other.  It was hysterical.  I wish I had had the Flip out so I could have recorded it!  Perhaps tonight!

I do leave the TV on during the day for them so they can watch Regis & Kelly, The View, and all my Soaps.  And then there is Oprah.  I'm sure they enjoy having some background noise and then something to watch as well.

Alot of kennel owners will pipe music in for their Greyhounds while lights are out and they are away from the kennel.  It has been known to boost performance at some tracks - well if you are playing classical music that is.  They don't perform so well after listening to Rap but they do like Country and Old Rock as well.  Who knew?

Love Bug

I've surmised that Sami is a love bug.  She is just so sweet and is quite the snuggler - basically she lays all over you like you are one of her littermates.  It's quite funny as she is quite comfortable while you are usually pinned.  Just a total sweetie.

Last night she also saw her reflection in the mirror in my bedroom.  She stood there, turning her head a bit as if she were actually admiring herself.  She is cute, but really!!  :)  I think she finally figured out it was her reflection in the mirror and not her twin!

More updates to come!!
