She's Home

Sandy was reunited with her new family, the McKenzie's, today at our Meet and Greet at Top Dogs.  I know she will be spoiled rotten and loved very much.  Congratulations McKenzie family, you've got quite a girl there!!  Enjoy her!

Almost Time

We are on the eve of Sandy being reunited with her new family.  I'd be lying if I said I didn't care and wouldn't miss her as I certainly will.  She is such a good dog and sooo sweet!!  She just wants to please and love her humans!

Fostering is very, very difficult because you do have to give them up at some point.  But, there is alot of satisfaction in knowing you had a small part in helping that Greyhound transition from track life to home life and, hopefully, to a smooth transition from foster home to forever home.  I am confident that Sandy will do well in her new home and will love her new family as they will love her and she won't ever look back!!

To provide Sandy a proper send-off, tonight I plan to bathe her one more time, Dremel her nails, and clean her ears - again.  She'll be squeaky clean and ready to move on to the next phase of her life.  I must say, I think she is ready! :)

I think my three girls are also ready to have me back all to themselves.  They are very good girls in that they tolerant fosters, they do teach them new things they need to know, and they are very cordial, however, they are ALWAYS happy to see them leave!  I think they are so tolerant because they KNOW they will leave, sooner or later!  Funny girls!  Actually, they are pretty smart!  They've definitely nailed the fostering thing.

So, more on Sandy's meeting with her new family tomorrow.  I'll probably take the Flip and get some video!!

Pre-Dawn Activities

This morning as one of my Greyhounds was freaking about the storm coming in (by freaking, I mean she pants and shakes and is terrified), dear Sandy proceeded to take EVERY toy out of the toy basket and chew it, squeak it, toss it, etc.  EVERY toy!!  I have to put them all back this evening when I get home.  She was absolutely having a blast at 2 a.m.!!

Mind you, this is not a normal occurrence at all but I think the fact that Lucy (the one freaking about the storm) was up and about that dear Sandy must have thought it time to get up, as well, and you might as well play if you're up at 2 a.m., right?

She finally did settle back down on her Orvis bed and slept some more until the alarm sounded at 3:45 a.m.!!

The good thing in all this is that she shows no phobic tendencies toward thunder or lightening or rain storms in general.  This is good - very good!!

The Roo'ing

This morning Sandy Roo'd all on her own.  I was getting ready for work and was almost finished when she started.  Then she started playing with Sugar.  They are so funny to watch and most Greyhounds just adore each other since, well, most are cousins of some sort.  Being related to the next one isn't uncommon at all.  And Greyhounds really only know their own breed because they've only been around Greyhounds all their lives.  So, they are all buds which makes gatherings and Meet and Greets really nice.  No spats to speak of!

I expect Sandy will one day soon start Roo'ing on command!  It's fun to see her personality come out, little by little, day by day!!

The Spoiled Girl

Yes, I have spoiled my foster, Sandy.  She just has that look and will rest her head on your leg, bed, lap, etc. until she gets her way.  She continues to be a real sweetie and I just adore her.  Last night she even almost roached.  For those unfamiliar with that term, it means when they lay upside down with all their legs in the air, much like a roach does when it's dying.  Except, of course, the Greyhound appears to be sleeping (they're usually cat napping though).  It takes time for a new one in the home to do this, well, until they feel comfortable because that's a very vulnerable position.  Here is a great webpage with numerous Greyhound related terms.  Happy reading!

On another note, Sandy met her new adoptive family on Sunday.   They are very excited about adding Sandy to their family.  That will happen officially on Saturday!!  Yea for Sandy and congratulations to her new family.   You will enjoy Sandy so much and she'll have you in stitches most of the time, I suspect.  Just be careful how she looks at you with those gorgeous eyes!
