Oly's BIG news........

Oly here!!!

I took over my own blog and decided to let everyone know that I have been very worried. With me having a fractured back leg I figured no one would ever provide me with a forever home.....  I WAS WRONG!!!! I have been adopted!!!! I now have my very own Mommy and Daddy. I have to share them with my sisters and brother but that is cool!!

My new name..... Oly LeVear-Gauthier!!! I knew if I kept smiling they would keep me!

YIPEE!!!

Surgery update

I spoke to Oly's orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Greenwood, this morning and he says there is about a 15% chance that Oly will need the fusion surgery. If you ask me that is not that bad of odds. Oly will be on crate rest and leash walk for the next 2-3 months and hopefully able to play in a small yard in 6-8 months. Oly will go for a follow-up visit on September 22.

Oly is continuing to love the home life. He is sleeping outside of his crate at night and spends his day in a very large crate with the girls beside him watching TV. He has not had any accidents in the house and has finally figured out how to eat outside his crate.

OLY SMILES!!! He shows all his teeth plus gums when he gets excited. The more you tell him to stop the more he smiles!!! It is hysterical to watch

Where's my toy?

Oly's vet appointment went OK on Monday. We are currently in a waiting period for a second opinion but Dr. Greenwood's first impression was that surgery is most likely out of the question. Since Oly's injury took place earlier than we first thought the bone has began to heal therefore making the surgery to complicated. While we wait for the results of the second opinion Oly is to continue to be leash walked and stay in his crate as much as possible.

So since Oly is on crate rest for his leg we are learning how to play with his toys laying down. As you can tell Oly is very goofy!! He has been a great patient and he loves his crate which is a wonderful thing.

 

He continues to get along with all his new friends and has even learned to "ring" the bells when he wants to go outside and go potty. He is now learning that he has to wait his turn when it comes to getting a marshmallow.....baby steps!!

Early Release........

Unfortunately not for good behavior. While Oly is a GREAT boy he has fractured his left rear leg therefore ending his training early. He has an appointment on Monday with Dr. Greenwood, an orthopedic surgeon.

Since arriving to the house this afternoon Oly has made himself right at home. He is enjoying his new greyhound friends and even thinks the cat is cool. As you can see from the picture Oly is a relaxed and happy hound. Oly's treatment is going to be very expensive so please consider making a donation to Second Chance Greyhounds. Oly is worth every penny!!!!

Training Update: Week Four

Oly continues to be his lovable, laid back self. While he has a lot of energy and greets you with a very happy tail wag, his favorite thing to do is to cuddle on his bed with others while they read in the evening. Who knows? Maybe he'll learn to read before he graduates!

Oly has never met a stranger. He loves all people and he is very social. He knows how to come on command and wait. This week we are working on a standing stay, which is very hard for a greyhound to accomplish, but this smart boy should have no trouble.

We're also going to see if he can learn how to "help me" by picking up things his trainer asks him to, like a sock, shoe or book much like an assistance dog might.
