Moving Forward

Meeka is going to be missed by her inmate trainer.  He says that she has learned all of her basic commands and once she gets comfortable she’ll perform them flawlessly.  Her inmate trainer says that Meeka takes retirement very seriously and rarely gets excited. She will transform from a laid back couch potato into a playful pup over a squeaky toy.  It’ll only last about 10 mins, but it’s fun to watch!

Meeka’s inmate trainer says that Meeka is a beautiful girl inside and out.  He believes that she is going to make a wonderful addition to her forever home.

Trying Out New Things

Each ten week training session would not be complete without swap week!  Around week eight the trainers swap dogs to see how they work with others and test for separation anxiety. During the first two days Meeka missed her primary trainer, but after the third day she was back to her old self.

Meeka is not an extremely playful girl, but she does enjoy a squeaky toy.  Her alternate trainer says that it was a treat to see her fall asleep with the toy still in her mouth!

In this training program they have ten weeks to train the greyhounds.  Many are trained much earlier, as is the case with Meeka.  She didn’t have any problems obeying commands with her alternate inmate trainer.   He says that she’s great on the leash, always staying by his side.  She does well with recall while outside in the big yard.

Meeka’s alternate inmate trainer says that he enjoyed his time with Meeka and has no doubts that her new family will quickly fall in love with this gentle, sweet, and loving girl!

One Look For Love

Hello.... Anybody out there?  My name is Meeka, and I'm not sure how this works, but I hear my new family is out there looking for me.  So I figured I'd better tell you little bit about me.  As you can see from my pictures I'm as cute as a button.  I love pina coladas and long walks on the beach.  Ok, well, I've never had a pina colada or been to the beach, but I'm looking for you, and a place to call home. I'm told that I'm the sweetest, smartest, mots tolerant greyhound around.  I don't take up much space. I'm not high maintenance.  As long as I'm with you, I'll be happy.

I can fit into any family large or small. Young or old.  I'm not picky.  I just want a family to call my own.

I'm such a smart girl, and I'll prove it to you.  One look at me and you'll fall in love. Just one look....

Very Persuasive Girl

This week Meeka got a taste of real retirement.  She got to play with toys and have fun running and playing with the other greyhounds in the bid yard. They did work with her reaction time to her commands and she has improved a great deal.  She knows the basics and most of the extras very well ("back", "leave it", "bow and "kisses").

Meeka is such a sweet, smart, tolerant and gentle girl, that it's hard to make her do anything sometimes.  She knows if she comes up to you for hugs and petting, the odds are pretty high that she will get her way.  How can you resist those beautiful brown eyes and that cute eyebrow to boot?  These are just a bonus to her sweet personality.  Do you have room in your home for her?  She will win over your heart in no time!

Toy Crazy

This week the inmate trainers have been working on Meeka's reaction time to commands, and they're proud to say, she's doing magnificent!  She knows all of them with verbal cues and most with hand signals.  They have been working on some extras:  "back", "bow", "kisses", and "leave it".  She is doing pretty good with "back" and "leave it", but needs more work on "bow" and "kisses."  They are confident she will get the hang of them soon.

Meeka absolutely loves squeaky toys and goes crazy over them.  She hopes her forever home has lots of them to chose from.

Meeka is very tolerant and trusting when it comes to having her ears and feet handled, and doesn't mind a bit being hugged around the neck or head.  She is a gentle giant, (at 64 lbs.), and is ready to make her retirement in your home official!

Loving Retirement

Meeka is doing wonderful!  She loves anybody that will show her love.  She is also having another great week of training.  She has mastered all of her basic commands with verbal cues and knows a lot of them with just hand signals.   She does not get in a rush.  After all, she is retired and she knows it!

She loves her squeaky toys and will play to her heart's content until she can play no more.  Some days Meeka will run in the big yard and other times she just likes to explore her surroundings.

Meek attempted stairs for the first time this week.  She took her time and figured them out on her own.  Once she got the hang of it, she went up and down them like she had been doing them all her life.  She's a quick learner!

Her inmate trainer is working on a few extra commands: "back", "bow"' and "kisses". She is a little slow in responding, so they will work on fine tuning those during the coming weeks.

Meek is going to be a dream come true for some lucky family!

The Fabulous Ms. Meeka

Meeka has learned all of her basic commands.  During the past week she conquered "sit" and "down".  Now her inmate trainer will work on distance, duration and distractions in different environments and on different surfaces. She is doing fabulously though, and continues to amaze her inmate trainer every day.

Meeka loves squeaky toys and will wear herself out playing with them.  Lately, she has begun running around in the big yard with the other dogs a little more than normal.  She is getting accustomed to her new Greyhound friends.

Some days she is very playful and some days she prefers to just chill and hang out.  She is very tolerant of being hugged around the neck.  She doesn't mind having her paws handled which is great when it comes time to clip those nails!

She is just a great, mild-mannered Greyhound who loves being with her people and getting extra loving, as long you'll sit there and dole it out!  She truly is a sweet dream!

Discovering Toys

Meeka is coming along nicely with training!  She has improved on the commands that she already knew and is currently working on “sit,” “down,” and “stay.”  Meeka has gotten a lot better at "stay" and the distance and duration is improving as well! She’s still not too sure about that weird “sit” command, but she’s beginning to grasp the concept.  Her inmate trainer believes that she’ll be performing this command very soon.

In other news, Meeka has started playing with toys!  She doesn’t play with them for very long, but it’s a start!  Her inmate trainer says that Meeka is very loving and gentle. She’s really coming out of her shell and her inmate trainer can’t wait to see what she reveals next!

Retired and Relaxed

Meeka has adjusted very well to her new environment. She already knows her name, “kennel,” “wait,” and is walking really well on a leash. This week she learned “bed” which is a command she is very fond of! She and her inmate trainer have started working on “sit,” “down,” and “stay.” He says that Meeka is improving every day!  She is not very treat oriented and would rather receive affection.

She hasn’t figured out how to play with toys yet, but she is very interested in them. Her inmate trainer says that Meeka is definitely retired, as she is perfectly content to lie around on her bed relaxing.

Week One!

It's the end of week one and Sweet Dreams is already doing extremely well with her name, Meeka (which is Japanese for beautiful fragrance), is walking well on a leash, and has begun learning a few commands, "kennel" and "wait".

Her inmate trainer describes her as "sweet and gentle".  She is a great listener and she is a quick learner.  Her inmate trainer wouldn't be surprised if Meeka nailed all of her commands within a few weeks.

Check back often to see how this pretty girl is progressing!
