The Manicure
Thursday, April 16, 2009 at 9:28AM Well, it was actually a manicure AND a pedicure. I figured it was time for Lola to get her nails trimmed. I don't actually use nail clippers but use a Dremel tool which basically sands the nail much like a nail file.
I didn't know how Lola would react to the Dremel tool since she hadn't ever seen one. The track trainers usually clip their nails and not very often at that, or so it seems. Lola's nails were now long and sharp as, well, a nail, so it was time. I gathered her up and led her into the spare bathroom where I usually Dremel my girls' nails. I closed the door and turned on the Dremel tool. She never looked down, never flinched, never said a word. She stood there and let me Dremel all four feet, without mishap. I'm used to them snatching their feet away just when the sanding barrel is there on the nail, causing me to actually Dremel my own nails. But not Lola, she was very good and all of my nails remain intact.
I was so very proud of her. She received a marshmallow as a treat! Umm, umm! And yes, oddly enough, the trainers typically use marshallows as treats for the kennel dogs after their race. So, most have had these before and most love them and I must say, Lola is no exception. She adores them.
Something else she adores is the Large Orvis bead bed that I have for her in my bedroom. I have many Orvis beds in the house (9 total, I think!) - most of them are the Extra Large size. This Large one was ordered by mistake but I must admit that most of the smaller females love it.
After breakfast and after dinner, my three girls are usually scattered about the house sacked out on the various dog beds. Lola, on the other hand, can always be found in the bedroom on that one Large Orvis bead bed. She does love it!
More later . . .
